"OPPOSING COACHES REVEAL REAL PROBLEM WITH TEXAS: LACK OF TALENT, SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT" by THAYER EVANS AND PETE THAMEL 08 OCTOBER 2015

"........ But numerous coaches who have faced Texas this season and are familiar with the Longhorns aren't as diplomatic about Strong's 1–4 start entering Saturday's game against No. 10 Oklahoma in Dallas. They point the finger at Brown and his former staff for the lack of talented upperclassmen and an attitude of entitlement that's resulted in public clashes with younger players recruited by Strong.

"In two years, Charlie could not have f----- that place up," a coach tells The Inside Read. "It was already f---- up before."

The latter was clear by the time Brown's 16-year tenure at Texas had puttered to mediocrity when he left at the end of the 2013 season. The Longhorns were never the same after their loss to Alabama in the 2009 national championship game and declined with every additional year Brown was allowed to stay.

"Mack knew the s--- going on, he just didn't want to own up to it," another coach says. "He knows what he left."

"They're just not nearly as talented as they used to be," a coach says.

"None of the older guys are going to the NFL, so you can tell most of them really don't care," one of the coaches says.

To make matters worse, there appears to be a lack of leadership among the players, a role usually filled by upperclassmen. "(Texas) doesn't have any dogs," one of the coaches says. "They don't have anyone that will stand up and say, 'F--- this bull----, let's go kick these f------' a--."

The rift between Texas's underclassmen and upperclassmen is so evident that coaches could sense the animosity well before it spilled over publicly in recent weeks. They see confidence in the Longhorns' younger players, but not the older ones.

"The upperclassmen are killing everything," one of the coaches says. "The freshmen just want to play. They're balling their a---- off."

After reading that, I am more confused than ever. Earlier in the week, I thought the upper classmen were saying it was the young guys who just wanted to show up on Saturdays.

omg, this is really maddening regardless of how we got here or who is to blame.

I think about how we got into this mess and IMO it was all about being obviously outcoached. First it was just Stoops, but then it spread. Baylor and TCU started doing more with less. As a result, those teams started sucking up recruits that Texas would normally get. As we got weaker, they got stronger. We finally reached the stage where Baylor and TCU reached top 10 status as their coaches consistently got maximum results with who they recruited and their recruiting kept improving as a result. Meanwhile, our cupboard got bare about the time we fired Mack, leaving an unenviable position for the next coach (Strong).

Having said that, Strong needed to show his superior coaching skills like Briles did at Baylor, Patterson at TCU, and Stoops at OU (and even some other Texas coaches like at SMU, Houston, Rice, etc).

The beginning of last season started well considering we didn't have a real QB, but the defense started the season much improved. I could hang my hat on Strong being a superior defensive coach. However, this year I have had several concerns that reduces my confidence in Strong:

    1) Why did it take so long to figure out that Swoopes was not a Div I QB...Heard should have gotten an accelerated course during the spring/fall practices and the vast majority of snaps as the number 1. If Heard was not working out, we needed to desperately get a JC QB or some QB that could start as a freshman.

    2) Our defense has been terrible and our special teams have collapsed with major mistakes as well.

    3) There are so many mistakes like personal foul penalties that should not happen no matter what the talent level

I want to give Strong the maximum chance to prove himself, but as of right now he just hasn't done it. After the ND game, all it took was a glance at the schedule and I estimated a 3 win season. I have seen nothing to alter that opinion. I think it is dreaming to get to 6 wins. Will we beat WVU on the road, Baylor, TCU, OU? About the only games I've circled are Kansas and Iowa St. If we don't beat Kansas, Charlie should be fired. We might be able to give Tech a game, but I doubt we can outscore them. KSU should outcoach and out play us.

We've got the worst team in over 50 years and the first one will have had 2 losing seasons in a row since Mackovic in the 80's (but his worst was 4-7 which is .444, 3-9 is .250). I'm an old fart so I can go through my memory banks to try to think of a worse team in the last 50 years, but I don't remember one that was so poor in all facets of the game. We've had weak offensive teams and weak defensive teams, but now we've got horrible defense, offense, and special teams.

Charlie needs to show something so that fans are given a little hope for the future or I don't see how I can continue to support him past this season.

Coaches have egos. The best have massive egos. Exhibit A, B, & C are (in no particular order) Harbaugh/Meyer/Saban.

Any coach who could potentially be intimidated by the possibility that Texas has very high expectations is a candidate that would not interest me.

How would other coaches know out players attitude and whether they have a sense of entitlement? Do they have a personal relationship with our players or talk to them on a regular basis? The whole "sense of entitlement" has been the most unprovable assertion thrown around for years. After 6-7, and now 1-4, i doubt there is anyone in our progam with a sense if entitlement anymore if anyone had one in the first place. Entitlement is not at issue at 1-4.

My guess is opposing coaches are defending Strong so he will stick around longer and they can continue to beat him on the field and so far this cycle in recruiting. Remember "Keep RC!".

Seriously, I could have written that article with my own slant on what I feel is wrong. Then added "anonymous" coaching quotes that sounded just as contrived and 20-year old language as that. None of those quotes state anything new that hasn't been claimed in the last 4 years about Mack's program.

I'd bet anything that clown fabricated at least most of those quotes to support his opinions. Or those are low level coaching sources with no credible knowledge of the interior of the program. None of them sound like any type of coach with stature would phrase it.

Try to imagine Bedford, Wickline, Norvell, Watson, or any respectable coach who has some sense talking foul and trash like that, even if anonymous. 4 of 5 of those quotes either say sh*t or f*ck in conversation. Most 'grown *ss man' coaches don't go dropping f-bombs to writers, even when protected.

I call bullsh*t. I also call bullsh*t on 80% of the anonymous source quotes from other less than reputable sites. That's a common scam used by wanna-be-important writers knowing they can't be challenged. This guy is a moron.
