Things could get better, you know. o_O

I'm ripping the cloud apart to find the silver lining in there somewhere.

This post didn't usually start till after the OU game...this has to be some sort of record!!! It shouldn't be nearly as bad for Shaka, but then again I think Barnes started 0 - 5 his first season. At least those Horns made the tourney.

My neighbor who is close to the Men's BB program is saying that the squad is already totally buying into the Coach Smart regime. The players and coaches are all gelling; "chemistry [so far] is better than anything he ever witnessed with Barnes and the vibe is all around just very positive", he said.

No shocking revelations there and what we probably expected considering how new and fresh everything is in contrast with how grim things were at the end of last year...but good to hear nonetheless. Just hoping it sticks after the novelty wears off.

Smart has basically the same team that Barnes had from 2 years ago, sans Holmes, so this team should still be very competitive with the addition of the new freshmen and the Cleare. My disappointment with last years team was that Turner was never really able to dominate games, but I may have expected to much from him. Same with Holmes. As far as the novelty wearing off, it shouldn't happen since Smart will be signing "his" players.

I know it's been discussed on other threads, but Turner put it into "Draft Mode" when he told all his friends/teammates that he wouldn't be coming back for a 2nd year in about February. From after the OU game on, he did everything he could to not get hurt. The fact that Barnes wouldn't play him starter's minutes shows how he felt about the situation. And how Turner moped around on the court for much of the rest of the season, including the Butler game.

In that sense, it's addition by subtraction. Yeah, it sucks to lose an NBA quality player, but not to lose one who mailed it in.

Here's some things I think people need to remember going into November:

    1. Some of our dudes just don't gel with the system Smart has. Smart likes fast guys who protect the ball, pass well, and have the ability to move around screens on defense. I'll let you figure out who on the roster doesn't conform to these traits. It's going to hurt us early in the year.

    2. Yancy is going to be a difference maker.

    3. Tevin Mack is going to be our new PJ Tucker, only smarter.

It you are talking about Felix, he and Smart seem to be getting along rather well. I know I am the minority, but I have always pulled for Felix.

If Turner was trying to protect his draft status and not get hurt then thats pretty low. I hope thats not the case, but he definitely disappeared last year.

I guess our expectations were pretty high for the kid. I would think he would have wanted to dominate on the College level to ensure a top 5 draft status. Maybe it just wasn't in the cards. His greatest attribute coming in IMHO was blocking shots, which he displayed during the 18U World Championships. Not the big time scorer like Durant.

That's Roach I believe. I wonder if Tristan Thompson could do that?

That's Roach. Touching 13' ft at 6'3" is pretty impressive. Earl the Goat did it at 6'1" tall.

Whats the official vertical at that height?

Top of the backboard is 13". It would be the distance from the top of his outstretched arm's hand to the backboard.

He's 75 inches tall and with his arm extended and the tip of his hand that would add approximately 18" or so. That adds up to 93 inches.

The backboard is 156 inches at the top. That means the vertical leap is 156 minus 93. The vertical leap was approximately 63 inches. It's not a standing vertical leap though, he had a running start.

    I still hate math.

He has some pretty freaky long arms like Durant, that may adjust the total vertical a little but it is still getting up there.....
