Not a huge shock but, with Lang and Boyette upperclassmen, would've liked to have seen a true post player in this class. Have to think they will take one next year and bring Sedona back into the fold for 2018.
while not a true post in the Kelsey-Imani, mold, getting Joyner will help to provide a tall player that can play in the post and cause mismatches with her ability to play on the perimeter. Christina will get some much needed PT this year as well. I really hope that we get Jade Willliams in 2017 as well as Sedona Prince in 2018. Those two will solidify the post position and allow Joyner and Jordan to play extensively as a stretch four or a three.
Jade isn't a traditional post plus she isnt that strong of a defensive presence. Good piece to add but that's about it. Think we will have to wait on prince
Looking at ESPN's Top 60 for 2017 and the tallest player is 6' 5" with 6 others at 6' 4" - looks like a down year for centers as a few of them are classified as Forwards rather than Posts - Jade Williams being 1 of them. I was much more comfortable with Christina at center when I was reading articles listing her at 6'4"-5" but I think her height on the Texas roster of 6' 3" is more accurate based on photos with Longhorn teammates. She's got good length, above average athleticism and a frame that suggests she'd be able to handle physical play so she should be able to man the position defensively - hopefully the staff can spend this season improving her offensive skill set. Outside of OU (Nancy Mulkey), I can't think of any present or future centers in the Big 12 that could cause us a lot of issues by playing a slightly undersized 5. Side note, does anyone know what has happened with Felicia Aiyeotan, Christina's 6' 9" HS teammate? She moved up to #33 in ESPN's previous rankings but isn't in the current Top 100. She recently transferred from Neumann-Goretti in Philadelphia to Blair Academy in NJ and her most recent list of finalists were very East Coast-centric: Boston College, Florida, Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Just curious.
I agree, we will still have plenty of height, and players who's versatility allow them to cover multiple positions. Khaleann and Audrey Ann are 6'4, Joyner and Olamide 6'3, and we have both Kelsey and Sara for two more seasons. I think there will plenty of post options for both 2017 and '18, including some who may not appear on any of the lists yet.
I wonder what impact, if any, Ciera's decision will have (perhaps none) on Lauren Cox's decision. I've always thought Louisville was the front-runner for Lauren.
