This was a must win for Texas and salvages the season. Any type of loss here would have been it for the year. Hopefully this translates to a full stadium against KSU, we owe it to the team after the ou game.

Totally understand where you are coming from HTown. I don't blame anyone for still being skeptical. Strong and this team still have a LOT to prove.
But agree with Sangre that some were embracing the negativity, and piling on. I think I did it too.
Hope Strong continues this, because this crow tastes damn good.

Nah I'll pass it wasn't anything negative in this my comment or any of my others if it wasn't a problem in the locker room what happen on live tv in front of millions and seen on social media would not have happened especially after what Boyd did during halftime I'm pretty sure strong told them to stay off social media regarding the team after that incident and they didn't after all he did call it the death of society or something of that nature

I'm glad this team proved me wrong this week.
I hope they have had a breakthrough, and can build on this performance.

All of us are glad of it, Ken. And I am with you - hopeful that this is a breakthrough to the next level of performance and not a one time tease.

I hope this wasn't a one shot deal Saturday. In the post game presser Strong said that the expectations are higher for the team because of how the performed Saturday. If they will play like that the rest of the way, about anything can happen.

If they play at this level, they can play with and potentially beat everybody left on the schedule save perhaps Baylor.

Agreed. I really don't know what to make of this team right now though.

The team looked in disarray against TCU, and looked great, really, against ou. The ou game was not as close as the score. Texas dominated. Could have added one more at the end, but took a knee.

This team has played a killer schedule, as noted above. And doing it while losing two very close, toss up games in the last seconds. And doing that while playing gobs of freshmen at critical positions on offense and defense.

This team is learning how to finish. They will be a different bunch at the end of this season.

Like I told my daughter on Saturday afternoon( She's a TCU grad btw), any time you beat ou or they lose, is a good day. Doesn't change my opinion of this staff one bit. Let's see how the games play out.

It was an amazing, unforeseen win no doubt. But let's be honest, the OU game brings out the absolute best effort out of the players regardless of records or rank. That's the 3rd straight year we entered as big underdogs and won twice, almost all 3.

Regardless, hats off to both our players and staff for going the extra mile to show we wanted it much more and did something about it. We still have a ways to go to see if it was a rivalry game aberration.

I'll gladly eat crow for a week after seeing a much different team dominate from what I saw the first 5 games. The fact still remains that we have a 6 reg season games left. An OU upset won't have the same magic if we go 2-4 in those and finish 4-7. But I certainly don't see that happening after the team finally got a glimpse of what they are capable of when they buy in 100% and play with every ounce of will.

In all my years of football, watching and otherwise, I've learned that judging off one week is foolish. I hung Strong out to dry for a continued accumulation of flops. I do have renewed excitement and expect a mini resurgence (maybe even threatening bowl eligibility). At the same time it's still gonna take a little more proof to tell this wasn't a one game rivalry aberration that players have to be dead not to give their all.

KSU will go a long way in telling us where we're at. Beat those chumps and it's time to start thinking bowl season is more probable than not.

But hey it's a bye week and OU still sucks, we can talk K-State next week. Great job Charlie, staff, and players...Hook 'Em!

Still at the train depot with one foot on and one foot off the Charley train.

Before the TCU game I opined both could be blowouts but it would not surprise me if we beat both of them. If we played the same two teams(TCU / OU) the next two weeks I would make the same prediction.
Posters on this board, including myself and Strong have said that talent was not the problem.
I think he made progress by recognizing the talent of a high school coach and allowed him to install the offense and it is a learning process, but the offense will only get better as the year progresses. It is not Norvell's offense and he is learning as well. I hope he doesn't get ego and get in the way. When I set up a management process, I always hated the guy that was not effective prior to my arrival holding his hand up and saying "I have an idea that will help the process". Actually you don't, so please be quiet and learn.
I have no doubt after TCU, the defense had the full attention of Strong and believe that is why it improved.
Regarding his defensive coaches: "If I have to do it myself, why do I need you?"
I feel Strong is learning on the job and if he gets a third year I hope he will clean house on coaches that are not effective.

The book on this season has not yet been written and hope Strong makes a run to a bowl game win and gets the recruits.

After the OU game I opine he has set a expected standard for this team and the fans.

If he gets blown out, has a losing season and/or loses to Iowa State, I think he is in trouble.

Like I said, one foot on the train and one foot off.

I had lot of fun at the game Saturday and walking down the Midway after the game was special. My feet are still wet from Sooner tears.

It was such an impressive win that it took you guys 6 days to get the nerve up to come back here and take a doodoo on it.

We were basking in the temporary, rare joys of a huge win. Over these several days it was appropriate to put the previous, well-deserved concerns aside and just enjoy 1 huge victory on it's own glorious merits.

This was the exact type win we've all been dying for Strong to collect. It's foolish to think any of us woke up Saturday wanting Strong to lose...quite the exact opposite.

Now 6 days later a wider view isn't unreasonable. Understanding the 2-4 results still call for highly cautious optimism is not negativity or bashing anyone. Contrary to what some have implied, there's not a mass jumping back on the train by those who were severely dismayed by our lackluster results before OU. We never left the Texas train, just had serious concerns with its operator. Few can say we conjured those out of thin air.

At the same time, very few of the doubters ever wanted Strong to fail in the first place. Most just hold the program dear at heart and want to succeed by whatever means necessary. I guarantee I took zero pleasure in doubting Strong after 1-4 and feeling this program was in dire straights with no solution showing itself.

There will be humongous pleasure taken if Strong turns this season around and threatens a bowl invite. We want Texas to begin winning more than we lose....plain and simple. There are 6 games left for Strong to display that's the true path we are on. I don't think that's asking too much or being negative.

The first three Big 12 teams we played are 16-1 overall. The remaining teams we face are 17-14 (4-9 Big 12). If this team has truly turned the corner like they indicated in Dallas, then 4-2 over the next 6 games should not be an absurd request.

I'm happy for Strong and the players, cautiously optimistic going forward, and 100% behind our team winning every game we play as usual. Let's see what we're really working with against KSU.

They're about to slug it out Saturday with a pissed off Sooners bunch. All the while we get extra preparation just for them, and needed rest from full combat. No reason we shouldn't continue this climb in an upward trajectory.

It's hard to know how to feel; like Mack or somebody from the past once said, "The A&M team that shows up to play us is never the same team that we see on film." This addresses the unique situation that is the OU game. We sold out; we went to bed early; we ate right all week; we listened to our coaches etc etc etc. So, it was an awesome victory but is that the real Texas team?

We know that the Cal and OSU games were games we should have won but failed due to catastrophic errors that you normally don't expect to see. Of course, there were other failures in those games but given the youth of the team, those were to be expected; and still the team was that close to winning. I don't know what happened against TCU. Notre Dame was a lifetime ago with a different quarterback and OC, so I don't count that in terms of what the team is and can become.

I'm willing to give it a chance.

10/4 DS, I enjoy your posts and opinions!

I want to trounce K State next Saturday. They have been our nemesis since joining the Big 12. I guess we will know more after the K State / OU game tomorrow.

So that's 4 of last 16 seasons (25%), the other teams best effort crushed their opponent's. What's the point?

In each of your examples both teams were highly touted and ranked 15th or lower. That supposed to negate the truth that rivalry games bring out an abnormally heightened effort from teams with much lower status? Do you ALWAYS assume two teams will give their all and end up close on the scoreboard?

Explain to me how Texas won 2 of the last 3 years (almost all 3) by a combined score of 86-68...

    TEXAS:
    Unranked each year
    4-9 combined record
    Double-digit underdogs each game

    OU:
12th ranked or lower each year
    13-1 combined record
    Double-digit favorites each game

Guess that's just the typical course of football competition. How about the RRS underdog easily covering the majority of the spreads the last decade.

Apparently you're unfamiliar with the rare phenomenon that occurs when hated rivals meet. Maybe you normally stand the entire game at DKR and scream at the top of your lungs for every single positive Texas play no matter how small. Debating extraordinary efforts regularly occur in rivalry games has to be the lamest waste of typing to date.

Really 4 of the past 6 years OU has underperformed against a clearly inferior Texas team, which makes it that much odder that the other 2 years were utter blowouts.
