Am I insane to consider Paul Rhoades of ISU. Seems he gets a lot out very little. How many recruits want to go to Ames Iowa? The guy seems like the kind of smart, hard nosed, no nonsense guy we need.
It's damn confusing; the simple answer to me is this: He was handed a sinking ship, he threw a few folks overboard who could have helped and is now using very young, inexperienced players including at quarterback; we've had some inconsistent results as would be expected from inexperienced players, but beat our biggest rival and possible final four team and lost to a one-loss team in the top ten because our punter dropped the ball. At the same time, we've been blown out because maybe those young players are still adjusting to classes and the week in week out intensity required at this level. My biggest complaint is Charlie's choice of assistant coaches. That is part of what we are paying for; his judgment. Can he IDENTIFY competent coaches and will they come on board? That's the big question; regardless if we can't make a big splash hire then we will continue to limp along with recruiting until the scoreboard starts to show results.
Said it before and here it is again. If not for his "I'm so proud" speech viewed countless times on ESPN and YouTube he'd be just another coach. We should be thinking Mark Dantonio, Kyle Whittingham, or maybe even Swinney although he's most likely waiting for Saban to retire. By the way, whatever happened to Chris Peterson as the second coming? He was mentioned for every big job for 5-6 years and now he's a ghost. Washington isn't that good of a job.
Did you see Baylor's third string ( QB turned WR moved back to QB ) light up OSU ? While we have ZERO QBs who can do that ????? I don't care if we have to hire him without an interview......We need to hire Art Briles.... I hate the guy for voting against us back in 2008. He may be kinda country bumpkin, but he can talk better than Charlie. He recruits freaks and OL who protect their QB. He recruits RBs who move the chains......if we bring him in and require he go get Greg Robinson or Chizik to run the defense we might just return to relevance.
Interesting replies and opinions regarding strategic and tactical positioning for a new HC for the good guys....Longhorn Catholic whispered his name in an earlier post....proven winner, recruiter, leader and experienced HC with the ability to put a formidable assistant staff together in a time frame we all want to see...assuming, of course, CS packs his bags as media and fans would have us believe....and he is open to relocating to ATX.....stranger things have happened....just food for thought I guess.
LOL here we go again. Yes. Actually I do. Happens every year. Not that every player emerges. But many do and I don;t see any reason to doubt it for these guys. Probably some of the other players you like so much, who are 3rd string now, will also improve and get significant playing time next year.
That will NEVER happen after we hired Strong, who had morals come first. Briles showed that his morals are dead last. I'm all about winning, but not to the point where I'd sell my soul to do so. Briles knew all about a rape allegation with a transferred player and did NOTHING about it. Just hid it. Not to mention all of the other players, like Oakman, who transferred to Baylor after being ousted from his last school because of an assault or something of that nature. And yes, the dude royally screwed us in 2008 for no apparent reason. I wouldn't expect a lot of uninformed fans to remember that, in fact almost none of my friends knew when I went to UT a couple years later, but for the fans that have followed for a while, that still pisses us off
aren't football players supposed to rape co-eds? What is the point of being a pampered narcissist if you can't bang anybody you please?
Texas' next head coach is still a graduate assistant somewhere. He will fill 10 or so jobs at various programs before he takes the reins from Charlie in 2035.
As long as religious institutions do not have to comply with open-records mandates, private schools will continue to purge the good athletes and give them extra financial incentives. The finances cannot be traced due to exceptions to the laws for private institutions. Briles has the perfect set-up at Baylor, and the players get "more" than playing time and wide-open offense. Briles to Texas would be as shameful as when the aggy hired Jackie Sherill.
fyi: Chip Kelly has an "outstanding" penalty to serve for NCAA rules infractions. If he takes a college job, he won't be able to coach the first year. No a good situation.
I believe that penalty expired Dec 2014. Kelly is gonna get nuked in Philly and should be given a shot here. http://espn.go.com/ncf/story/_/id/9425972/chip-kelly-owns-mistakes-college-football
Can anyone say John Harbaugh? Why not? What more does he have to prove in the NFL. If it's good enough for his brother...
