It's nice to see our staff doing such a great job of keeping so many of these top recruits in-state, and playing for Texas.
Audrey-Ann Caron Goudreau—through seven games: 14.4 pts/g; 52.5 fg %; 52.9 3pt %; 53.3 ft %; 9.1 reb/g; 2.4 a/g
Joyner put up 18 points in a 63-42 win over Richardson and Texas A&M signee Arleighshya McElroy last night. Stats are rather limited but it's the only game I could find when she hasn't gotten at least 20.
"Talk" to her? You mean "Trash Talk" to her..abusively, too. That crazy should have censured by the NCAA's like she has been before!
Joyner and Cedar Hill opened district play this week with a 73-33 win against Mansfield and followed it up with a 69-63 victory over Amber Ramirez and San Antonio Wagner. Joyner scored 31 and 30 points respectively. Jada put up 19 in a 80-34 beatdown of Mesquite.
Article about Alecia's most recent game. Love the opening sentence,"Parkway North senior guard Alecia Sutton was at it again on Friday night." The only thing I thought Coach Aston might frown upon was "3 jumpers from just inside the 3 pt line". http://www.stltoday.com/sports/high...cle_4057c61e-a088-11e5-a135-7bd829981880.html Latest highlights:
We're going to have an amazing corps of guards next year, with the way Brooke is playing, Ariel coming back, LaShann maturing, and Sutton here. Not to mention Holmes. Will help take the sting out of losing Imani.
ProspectsNation's look at signing classes. They start off by comparing conferences year over year, then name Texas the 'Best Class' though not #1. Probably has to do with getting 2 of their Top 10 (#1 and 10) but didn't have the class size of Maryland. http://prospectsnation.com/story/signing-analysis-big-xii
Thanks for clarifying. Went back and realized I just glanced at the intro rather than reading it. Not a millennial that can blame it on inability to focus, rather a Gen Xer who just doesn't care.
Nice to see the twice in the Top 10, 3 times in the Top 50. http://prospectsnation.com/players/ranked/2016
Cedar Hill and Joyner Holmes are in Virgina playing in the Ronald Curry/Boo Williams Christmas tournament. They opened with a victory against last season's 6A Virginia state runner-up, Bethel. Joyner led all scorers with 22 and was used at the top of CH's 1-2-2 zone to disrupt Bethel's guards. http://recruit757.com/basketball/bethel-starts-strong-but-unable-to-hold-off-cedar-hill-tx/
Jada Underwood put up 27 points to lead Mesquite Horn to the finals of the Dallas ISD/Coca-Cola girls basketball tourney. Article contains slide show with quite a few shots of Jada. http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/hig...ushes-team-finals-plano-west-moves-semifinals
I've never seen Jada Underwood play and know nothing about her stats. Does anybody know what kind of outside shooter she is? Can she hit the 18 footer or the three? Or is it slash and drive to the basket?
Mesquite Horn finished second in the Coca Cola Tournament as Jada Underwood ended up with 11 pts. The article also has news on the Sandra Meadows tournament with Duncanville’s Zarielle Green (2018) scoring 28 pts to lead them to the title. http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/high-schools/2015/12/30/girls-basketball-notebook Jada was named to the All Tournament team: http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/high-schools/2015/12/31/boys-girls-tournament-teams-dallas-isd-coca-cola-basketball-tourney Audrey-Ann is averaging 13.6 ppg on 43.9% from BTA and 9.3 rpg for #5 Gulf Coast State College (14-0).
Here's an AAU game from 2 years ago with Jada and Joyner playing against Alecia and Collier, whose now playing at Uconn. Jada is #10 in black, Joyner#32 and Alecia #15 in white.
only had a chance to watch part of the first period. Alecia is really quick with the ball. Jada had really nice form on that one three she took and made. Gonna have to make time to watch the rest of. Thanks for posting the video.
I guess that I have too much time on my hands in that I DID watch the entire video. Since I was an AAU coach for 7 years, then a basketball referee for 6 more years...........it was good to watch a good, high quality summer game. I had never seen her play so here are a few observations that I had on Underwood: The one word that comes to mind to describes her to me is........."smooth". She has a very good shot both at the free throw line and from the three. Excellent mechanics on both. It will be nice to have an excellent free throw shooter on the team! Just good form and touch. She seems to float at times as is typical of summer bball, but has good quickness when she sees an opportunity. I would classify her as a scorer rather than a volume shooter. She doesn't wow you but at the end of the game she just might be your top scorer. She is undersized for a 4 but she really knows how to use her body and get off her shot. She uses the bank very efficiently and effortlessly. I think she will get most of her points inside but appears to have both mid-range and BTA skills. She will play inside-out and will be a mis-match for smaller 3's inside and 4's outside. The coaches will love her overall skills in handling the ball, shooting, passing, etc. She is right handed but seems to like dribbling to her left hand most of the time. Can dribble with either hand well. She does not force things as she appears to "let the game come to her". I didn't count but I am fairly sure she was high point player in the game for her team. She has good stamina as she didn't come out of the game until mid-part of second half, then was quickly back in. In that this video was 2 years ago, I am sure that Underwood has more refined skills now (even with her missing her jr year and spring/summer ball. In summary, I was pleasantly surprised in watching her. I believe she will be a player for Aston in her freshman year in that she has skills that are not on the team right now in one package. Also, she had 21 points Saturday night in Mesquite Horn's 51-40 win over Highland Park. I still have plans on getting out to see Horn and Underwood in person soon to see how her game has changed.
flash34, Thanks for your great analysis. You coaching experience gives you such detailed observations. Helpful to us all in trying to understand what's going on with players.
All 3 members of the 2016 class were nominated for the McDonald's All-American game. Alecia is listed as being from St. Louis, TX. http://www.mcdonaldsallamerican.com...s/2016 Nominee List (Boys_Girls) Final(1).pdf
Joyner scored 37 points in a 76-49 win over Midlothian last night. Jada led all scorers with 27 in a 62-60 double overtime loss to Richardson.
Audrey-Ann had an ankle sprain in practice right after Christmas vacation, and has missed the last few games. But, she is undergoing treatment and should return within the next week.
Joyner rebounded from her 12 point outing against Duncanviile with 28 points against Grand Prairie. Jada has scored just 17 points in her last 2 games combined but both were 50+ point blowouts so I assume she played limited minutes.
Didn't realize this was a thing but Alecia and Joyner both made the Naismith Trophy Girl's High School Player of the Year - Midseason Team: http://naismithtrophy.com/press-release/naismith-girls-hs-player-of-the-year-midseason-team/ Texas, Baylor, Louisville, Maryland, Stanford and Notre Dame each have 2 players on the team.
