A&M by anywhere from -3 to -4.5. It's too early in the season to trust college basketball lines very much. A&M has beat everyone they've played by 25 or more, including TAMUCC who we had issues with.

Horns are going to be evolving during these early games. I think sooner rather than later they are going to start gelling. This team is deep and talented. I'm going to enjoy watching the next 10 games including tonight to see this evolution. I've seen and heard enuf about Smart to believe he's the real deal.:bevo:

This is not fun to watch. Is our offense just throw up 3s and hope they go in? I hope the second half is much better.

Their players are taller, older, and their coach is in his 5th season there.
UT Freshman Davis is keeping it respectable and at times close.
What is important is that the Horns scrap to the finish.
But building up a lot of fouls.

There is no moral victories when it comes to playing Aggy. You either win or you lose and losing is not acceptable....

Win or lose I like what I've seen tonight. Yes the solid play has been spotty and the offense has been up and down, but the runs show what this team can do when they start playing together and the freshmen are learning. This is the best they've played against a quality opponent and there are a lot of positives they can take from this performance as well as a lot of negatives to learn from. :bevo:

A&M has 6 seniors, 1 junior, 2 sophomores, and 6 freshmen. A&M freshman Admon Glider scored 12 points. A&M Freshman Tyler Davis had 14 points.

We have 5 seniors, 5 juniors, 2 sophomores and 3 freshmen.

    A&M has 2 players who are 6-10.

We have 3 players who are 6-10 and one that is 6-11.

Our players are coming off back to back NCAA tournament appearances and 20 win seasons playing in the Big 12 conference.

A&M's coach has not made the NCAA tournament once in 4 years with 3 seasons in the easy SEC conference. A&M's coach is going to get fired if they don't make the NCAA tournament this year.

There was nothing positive to take out of this game. We lost to a poorly coached team that may not even be that good by the end of the year.

I hope Smart's system works out because I cannot take being bad in football and basketball.

I just today realized this is a large tournament. Thought it was 4 teams (one time thought it was just Texas playing A&M). Looking at the teams there... with two more games to play, there is solid experience to be gained in playing the next two games.

My observation based on watching the game, stands corrected.

I don't agree. tam has something we don't, which does make them a bit better than us: Danuel House, a 6'7", 220 lb guard who scored 19 tonight, will be on some all American teams, maybe 2nd team, and will be a top 15 pick in the nba draft next year.

He abused our undersized guards all night. We really didn't have an answer for him.

Shaka's team is getting more settled in, and by midseason I think they'll be playing well enough to get a spot in March tournament. Just my opinion.

House is a good player, but I do not think he is an all american. A&M had him last year and they were not exactly world beaters. We have the defensive players to shut him down, but they did not today. Hopefully things improve.

Totally agree. While it may sound weird because Texas lost by a larger margin, there were way more positive takeaways from this game than Washington (which, silver lining: we can avenge ourselves after that loss tomorrow).

Also, Texas A&M is a very good basketball team. They're likely to finish top 4 in the SEC and have very talented freshman and one of the better offensive guards in the nation this season. Texas, this early in the season, does not have a lot to be ashamed of losing to a team like Texas A&M.

Unfortunately, it'll be very tough for Texas to get to the tournament this year because the schedule is really tough. But, this team is deep and talented, so I have faith they'll come full circle by February :hookem:

I don't buy this "process" and players and coaches needing time. Barnes had one and doners year after year and guys leaving early as well. He didn't need half a season to jell and win against quality teams.....
We will see what Smart has.....we get Washington again. If Smart is worth a flip we should win this one.

    Yea.
Barnes only needed half a season to totally fall apart and take a team that should be contending and take it straight to the cellar.

Hey, that first half of the season got us in the NCAA tournament all but once! :smile1:
(plus he left behind a 5 game winning streak against a&m)

Yeah, what happened to Felix? Was he hurt or what. Didn't see him much in the last ten minutes. We could of used his three pointers. On the other hand, House would be a mismatch over Felix.

Wow. Bit harsh and myopic. Let's review the reasons why we're erratic and inconsistent early: Three very talented freshmen plus a talented transfer (thanks Barnes), and a strong core of upperclassmen learning a new system and a new coaching style that is 180 degrees different than the prior coaching style and strategy. Team learning how to trust each other and play as unit (yes, that's a dig on Barnes -- we had too many years where there was lots of "me" in team). Second game of the season against a talented aggy team (yes it pains me to admit that) that we stayed competitive in until the end. Team has been on a plane more than on the ground for the last couple of weeks. I think that I heard they will have traveled 17000+ miles when this Bahama trip is done. (How would you (a presumed adult) be able to do a very difficult physical job under comparable circumstances? These are 18-21 year old kids in strange new lands (except for Cleare in the Bahamas :smile1:). I can tell you that I've traveled long distances and physically and mentally it takes a toll.)

Tonight Davis and Mack looked a bit (but not totally) less like wild kids. We didn't wilt when down by double digits several times and came back to make it game. I really liked how Smart did not overreact to a bad shot selection or misplay (yes, another dig on Barnes) and let the kids play.

I'm really interested to see how we do against Washington. I expect a better game than China. Washington is very young as well so they will likely be improved also. I think that we win, but won't overreact if we lose. As I said earlier, this team is evolving. I think that we're going to a very tough team to beat by the time that we're playing conference games, and I believe that that statement will be true earlier than that. :bevo:

Beginning to believe this board is way too serious for me. It's going to be a long basketball season and FB recruiting countdown, then the aftermath of that, on into spring training....

I liked having scoreboard on aggy in all the sports. They have a bad coach right now who has done nothing in 4 years there and got run off his home court by Louisiana Tech early in the NIT last year. I hate giving away scoreboard against a bad coach. Yes, this is partially on Patterson for his stupid scheduling of china and bahamas trips to start the year. No, I will never like what I see after losing to OU, A&M or Arkansas.

As far as the actual play goes, I saw a team that is worse on defense than the past two seasons. Instead of a new exciting offense, I saw us throw up a bunch of 3s. Anyway, I hope it improves.

That bad coach just beat Gonzaga today. Yea it sucks to lose scoreboard, but maybe that means we should schedule them again.

Texas up 41-31 at half against washington
