Apparently the post, now 29 pages in length and counting, was initiated at 11:43 today... Let the speculation begin.

    What is TOS?

"The Other Site." I was intentionally being non specific. My understanding is that texlarry is the fellow who broke the Mack Brown hire story when the foregone conclusion was that Gary Barnett would be hired.

OK thanks dukesteer - anything that can be shared here? I don’t want to step on the toes of the paid sites though.

I'm hearing that the subject is now the source of an active discussion on two different pay sites. It's either one heck of a hoax or the story has traction. Apparently the moderators of one of the sites has verified the validity of the source. We shall see.

By the way, I posted hoping that one of our more knowledgeable Hornfan participants may have knowledge to share.

Put some mentholatum under my nose and went over to shaggy. In addition to texlarry we have sua sponte,a name long-time hornfan posters recognize, and jesus shuttlesworth involved. That last name tells you all you need to know. I can't believe an institution so image concious would invite the kind of blowback this would create.

I trust nothing from Jesus Shuttleworth.

Anyway, I do not know who any of the rest of them are, and I will not believe this rumor unless it happens. Our program has a bad habit with bad rumors. Our athletic director, interim or not, just sent a letter about Strong coming back next year.

    IDE,

Why will there be "blowback" if it is Strong's decision? This is not likely originating form the AD's office. If it comes to pass, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Yeah, I probably jumped the gun a bit but there will be speculation that Strong was shown where the door was even if the wasn't shoved out. I would wonder why a coach would leave Texas for South Carolina or Miami and I'm far from alone. Then there's the "elephant in the room" aspect and anyone who thinks the media won't point it out would buy ocean front property in Kansas.

I would be surprised given that Strong just this week stated that he wasn't "running" from a challenge and Perrin gave his full support. I'll just watch the drama and hope for the best.

Driver 8: I was just writing this post to the same effect.

I don't see how this rumor is compatible with the very strong statements that Perrin and Strong have recently issued. Therefore my default paranoia mode makes me wonder if somebody, somewhere has an ulterior motive and/or ax to grind by stirring up this issue again after it has recently been laid to rest. So who would it serve to keep the issue alive?

I guess we will know within the next few weeks if changes are afoot.

I certainly can't see any wisdom in The University choosing to terminate at this early point. Charlie may or may not be the answer for this program, and the results to date have not satisfied anyone, but I think he should at least get another recruiting class of his own and the 2016 season to see progress, however that may be defined.

It would serve Chip Brown and his butt buddies to keep it alive so they can write stories and get clicks at the expense of our program.

If history is any indication, endorsements like the one linked to Perrin are meaningless.

Strong has been a fish out of water since he was hired. His inability to "connect" with the media (for example) would be of no relevance had he put an acceptable product on the field. But nine blowouts in 23 games and only 10 wins leaves little room for debate. His tenure here has, to date, exceeded our worst expectations.

If someone -- the Unversity, the Big Cigars or another program, working with Texas -- is willing to offer an exit package worth $15,000,000 or close, who wouldn't take that deal? Do you really think that Strong and his family enjoy existing under this level of pressure? The decision to accept such a deal, if offered, would take most of us about one second...the time it takes to say the word "yes."

Someone above referred to, ulterior motives, "the elephant in the room." That type of thinking represents looking for excuses where none are needed. Anyone who needs to look further than the record is probably denying reality. In fact, most in Longhorn Nation wanted to see Strong succeed, and many for reasons not related just to football.

I don't know if the rumor is valid but, it certainly seems plausible.

I knew sua sponte well, when I was living in Austin. I know at one time he had some good connections. Then he had some significant health problems.

I have been out of that loop for awhile, but there are other posters here, that should still be able to know some things.

Isn't this thread on Orangebloods and not Shaggy?

Yeah, I dont buy it. Its someone with an agenda and they want to keep the fire burning even with both the AD and coach coming out so strongly earlier this week. Right now garbage like this has an effect on recruiting and fanning those flames is basically someones way of telling recruits not to come to Texas because the coach is leaving so they can then argue look Strong cant get the recruits so he has to go, vicious circle.

Maybe a man who has some pride and wants to see his commitment through wouldn't take that deal. Not everything is about money.

My thoughts on our 'yet to be determined' situation is very few people really know how those involved are leaning. Only the employer and employee and maybe those closest to them.

The media damn sure won't know in a fluid situation like ours. This is how they make their living...speculation claiming "unnamed sources" that no one can verify. They can miss 5 times with no real repercussions. Then luck out once and boast for years how they nailed that one coaching change. OB's misses well over 50% and still has a cult following of the clueless who think the writers are football experts. Not even close.

The fact is CS has put himself on thin ice. Just how thin that ice gets remains to be seen until after Baylor. We have two games remaining. Nothing is set in stone yet as these outcomes could massively influence the situation and even reverse a current leaning.

Texas could route both Tech and Baylor and then a swoon of missing support would swing behind Strong. Or we could get thrashed by 20+ by both teams and the dam would really burst allowing more raging floods to influence a split.

With two games left no coach is gonna lead on he's looking elsewhere. That's betraying the soldiers who trusted him while still on the battlefield. Heavy denial is the norm in these cases. Same goes for the AD. The elephant in the room got big enough where both had to address it. Denial was the only responsible option with games left as this not a clear-cut firing situation.

Regardless of the rumor, I have believed for perhaps a month or more -- particularly after Iowa State -- that if the on-field performance didn't improve considerably, a change was plausible after the season, if not probable. I still believe that to be true. The rumor yesterday seems to suggest that the handwriting is already on the wall.

All we can do between now and the period starting after the game next Saturday is wait, and speculate. And I will speculate that a succession plan is already in motion.

FWIT to the extent no decision has been made by Texas that is probably true in part because two games remain that could force a decision to get another coach or make it impossible to challenge Strong. To the extent Strong has made a decision no one could possibly know at this stage. Frankly Strong doesn't have to decide, If he is fired he gets enough money to take some time off and make a move on his schedule. There are and will be plenty of job openings this year and next and Charlie is an easy choice for many of them.

Frankly I hope Texas is making contingency plans in case CS leaves (or cannot stay) because I don't see an easy, sure fire option.

If it is wait and see then he is toast because even the team that showed up for ou will get beat by 40+ points by Baylor as Briles somehow has lucked into/built a team to Texas' weaknesses.

The whole problem with all of this is what top level coach is going to come in and take over when he knows he has two years and one real recruiting class to produce a winner? Another guy who wants $5 million a year guaranteed and knows he will have at least $15 million in his back pocket when he is shown the door? This is the aggy way which has produced zero over the past 20 years and counting.

Again, I completely disagree. As I have opined in other posts, the situation couldn't be better for our next coach, for two reasons. First, the bar of expectation has been lowered dramatically by Strong's performance and, secondly, the new coach will inherit a loaded sophomore class.

It's the opportunity of a lifetime and the timing couldn't be much better.
