Texas is in serious danger of becoming irrelevant. I see the program paralleling Michigan after Lloyd Carr retired and Tennessee after Fulmer. Years of a bunch of nothing.

Texas made a huge mistake in hiring Strong. H U G E. Texas has the money, time to cut your losses and get a big time coach.

Well, ttu has the 2nd best offense in college football, scoring wise. TTU has a better QB than us, a better O line, and better receivers. We were playing defense with 3rd teamers.

No one really paying attention could be surprised by this outcome. I'm surprised we were really right there in it at the end.

Were we watching the same game? I can understand guys who say they saw some positives bit they were outweighed by negatives. But no positives??? Really??

Warren was a huge positive. We did not quit which was positive. However we are now 0-11 when behind at halftime under Strong.

4th and 7 call was just a ****** play call - can't get over that!

Charlie - get ready to welcome in a 4-8 record and of course no bowl.

We stopped running warren. I thought we would give him 2 shots on 3rd and 4th. The next carry he got on the following series, Warren ran for an 8 yard TD.

This season can't be over soon enough. I hate that I feel that way, but watching this team embarrass itself week after week is getting old. And we can say that they didn't give up, or blame it on injuries or that they're a young team, but let's be honest that's all ********. You don't have a 4-7 going on 4-8 record because of some bad luck and lack of maturity. This team is poorly coached and has no real leadership. There are a few guys that look like they'll be beasts going forward, but besides that, I don't see any hope for this team in the near future.

Hire on OC, work on the offense in the Spring, and the freshman and sophomores are one year older.

We will be much better next year. The young players make too many mistakes.

Regardless of youth or lack of talent it is very difficult to justify losing to TT. If Strong is back next year hopefully he is forced to replace his coordinators

So wtf happened to the O in the first half. Same team. Same crappy D. I just don't get it. Everyone ran over tech like the 2nd half all year. WTF happened in the 1st half with Heard?

Yeppers, that call was the game. Did our offensive coordinator suddenly think that we had a qb who could make a picture-perfect pass to a receiver who catches about 20% of his passes?

We need a new OC and staff with real experience in the spread offense not a bunch of guys from different places mixed in together. I like norvell but he was just as consistent as our qb play. From top to bottom let the new guy bring in the guys he wants to coach his offense and get this team balanced on the air and the ground it can be done look at Baylor, it just takes coaching and we don't have the right guys coaching this offense. We have the talent no doubt in my mind. Even when we have Malcolm, Bergeron, and Gray we would kill people on the ground but when we played a team that could stop the run we were screwed and that has been our problem for years before Charlie even got here and that's not a shot at Mack it's the truth. I'm concerned about the defense buts lets be honest it's the big 12 the teams in the upper echelon get points hung up on the also by teams who know how to run the offense turnovers usually decide those games. The coaches didn't put the guys in good position to win a few games this year and it was times when we had the game even though by close margin the players made an error so it's plenty of blame to go around. Even some of us fans including myself win or lose we should be in those seats helping to cheer these guys on. I know it's hard when we see the product but sometimes with support the outcome may be different. I like the young guys and a lot of them will be really good for us next season and the years to come but putting them high up on the pedestal so early killed the senior leadership early in camp and that was a mistake even though some are more talented we still should have played some more of those guys to show them hey we haven't forgot about you. Oh well one more to go and the season is done hoping for another strong class of recruits and a better next season ok I'm done with my rant just my opinion don't troll me to hard.

I have been a CS supporter all year but that play really turned my stomach. Why in the name of all that is holy do you throw a 35-40 yard bomb to your weakest pass catcher on 4th and 7???? I was so angry I thought I was going to have a stroke!!!
The sad reality is that we SHOULD have beat Cal, OSU, WVU, and TT! We SHOULD be 8-3 and NOT 4-7!
I understand the youth movement but my God, the STUPID ERRORS!
One last thing, I love Vance Bedford as a position coach but he CANNOT be our defensive coordinator!

Easy, solid rant. I, for one, cannot say I disagree with any of your points.

Strong needs to hire a great offensive staff next year.

Guys ... I didn't have any consideration for our scoring 45. No special teams scoring, no defensive scoring. It was all offense on the board.

If we were to win, I thought it'd HAVE TO BE by 9+ minute drives, finishing with a score of 28 - 24 or some such and number of 1st Downs almost equal to yards gained/10.

Losses hurt, and this season has been a lotta hurt ... but here's the thing for last night.

We are a EITHER a pittsburgh steeler fluke, a dozen/so teenager-on-the-xbox playcalls, a sleepy defense for what was APPARENTLY a kneel, OR a depth chart which got shallower than a 2A HS team away from winning ... if not for all 4 of those, we win BIG (>3 TDs). (and I AM concerned about the injuries over the course of the game, btw. that was getting out of hand!!!!)

As has been said about our win in Dallas ... play OU 10 more times this year & probably lose 7 or 8 of 'em. We play TT again 10 more times, even with the injuries ... we win 7 or 8 of 'em.

Charlie desperately needs to fix the O ... that's a given. I think Patterson's refusal to get Chad Morris is rearing its ugly noggin, now. And that's probably not an option anymore. Typical bean counter attitude. 5 million buyout is CHUMP CHANGE. Would have made that and probably 5x that with an offense, even though very young, which could have held its own ... & we are sitting with a two-loss (prob still lose to ND/TCU?) team and in the hunt.

4 very close losses even with the poor playcalling!

Fix that one item next year ... I'm stoked.

We'll prob not defeat BU again ... but I don't think we get blown away, even in Waco.

Totally agree. Swoopes probably couldn't make that pass 20% of the time even in practice and even if he did, Daje drops it half the time. Very low probability of success.

    Exactly.

The game was clearly on the line and we just needed 7 yards to keep the chains moving.

Why in hell would you dial up that play when you could spread em 'out with 3 WR's to the wide side of the field and run a rollout pass / run or run a bootleg play. They could have called any play that is quick developing that you could throw a short pass or run to get the yards. You could also hit a TE or RB dragging the middle. All have higher % of success than the play that was called on 4th and 7.

The play called last night gives you only the option to throw - throw a long, difficult pass to a weak WR. Stupid, just stupid

We played an entertaining, exciting game and came up a little short. Given the diminished expectations I have for Texas football, I'm not miserable. Heck if I were in charge I'd light the Tower orange and party 'till 2 a.m. cause Warren and Swoops had great games.

Big/LOUD AMEN on the TE drag.

... and a (similar) pass which Swoopes had BADLY missed 4 or 5 times prior ... and a pass IN THE RAIN, from one side of the field to the other.

Not a high percentage play. Not even an acceptable percentage.

#25 on a record setting night ... mostly in the second half... against the weakest run defense we've seen all year. Now 4/7 and a counter/pitch/draw to the RB would be somewhat risky, too, but not as risky as THAT play call.

Crockett I ashamedly agree. After game I was pleased about Warren to the point of accepting the loss with minimal remorse. Then I realized what I had become, a fan of "diminished expectations", not proud of it but it's a fact.

Not to mention that the Tech defense practices every day against an offense that probably has a routine set of plays that do the EXACT SAME THING given the way that school historically airs it out...only they practice against a QB that could actually make a throw...

Not only was that Tech play not a fumblerooskie and not a fake kneel like people keep saying, but blatant pre-snap penalties by the Raiders were missed. Two of the Tech OL were still moving to line up when the ball was snapped. Didn't notice it live b/c I was trying to figure out wtf they were doing, but on the replay I couldn't believe the officials all missed it. They must have been trying to figure out what the offense was doing also, and forgot their jobs.

This turned out to be entirely incorrect.

Who else do we have that can play DB?

This was so frustrating, probably the most frustrating thing about the game. Full credit to Mahomes for being so shifty and exceptionally smart about when to buy time and when to toss it. But, there were, literally, 15-20 times in the game where one of our DEs got around the edge and then made a beeline straight for him, only to have him escape to the outside. We never adjusted and started taking the longer route to make sure to stay outside of him and collapse the pocket. Either Bedford utterly failed, Haley utterly failed, or every single DE on the roster wasn't listening to their coaches.

With a RB who was averaging 12 yard a carry against a D that has been mostly playing the run, and on that play would against a D who it was reasonable to expect would be thinking we'd finally pass it.
