halftime Turkey Day performance.............this should be good. http://www.hookem.com/2015/11/18/jimmie-vaughan-to-play-with-ut-band-on-thanksgiving/
trying to recall the last time I heard a marching band and a blues guitarist mesh. Not sure I wouldn't rather listen to the garbage on the godzilatron or even the ditzy weather guy.
I was in the NE corner of the field. They had 4 giant speakers on the West sideline pointing West and one more also on the West sideline pointing North. So, I have no clue how it sounded as I could barely hear a thing.
The first song was okay, although strange. I guess I imagined that Jimmy Vaughan was 85% the blues guitarist that Stevie Ray was--uh, NO!, more like 10%. The second one was horrible. Went on and on; the guitar part was bad; the singers were bad; the song was bad; the interaction with the LHB was bizarre. On the other hand, Ray Benson did a great job on the national anthem. He really has a great voice. Had a Composite Acoustics carbon fiber guitar in his hands--because of rain (not like the prior game where the anthem singer had his fabulous Collings acoustic out there in the rain!)--but for some reason it wasn't mic'd or plugged in, so he sang basically a cappella.
In the NEZ all we could hear was JV and his guitar. Couldn't hear the band, drums, or the backup singers at all. The idea was okay; the production was terrible.
Love me some JRV, but I have never met an outdoor music venue that I like. The acoustics just aren't there. Painful for my musical ears...
