Rooting for OU

I'm rooting for OU from here on out. Yes, that might include the national title game, however many times I'll have to throw up while doing so. Here's why:

In 2012, A&M's entire season came down to "We beat Alabama." Their season was otherwise good, but unspectacular. If not for beating Alabama, A&M goes 5-3 in conference, finishes 7th in the SEC, and Manziel probably doesn't win the Heisman, with no signature win. Instead, they're still riding the wave of momentum generated from being the only team to beat that year's national champs. It may be starting to dry up, but it was the one thing carrying them for a while.

Take out the OU win and we're (likely) 3-9 this season, with wins over (likely) 5-7 Rice, 5-7 Kansas State, and 0-12 Kansas. If OU wins out, including the championship, at least we have a pitch. "We were the only team to beat this year's national champions. We play championship football at Texas, we'll soon be winning these games consistently..." etc.

I'll have to have my stomach pumped after each game OU wins...but for Texas, I will.
    Obligatory: OU sucks.

So you want to root for OU so we can be more like an aggy program that still resides in the lower half of their division. Got it.

Tough one for me. I hate OU but, then again, I hate T. Boone and the officials he influenced. (Sure seemed like it in our game.)

Gotta pull for Okie Light, LSU (BIG-TIME, smoke Aggie, please), Michigan, Auburn and Stanford. It would be nice to see a new face win it all this year...like Clemson or Stanford. Not Alabama, please. Or any SEC team. And the Heisman? I want the kid from Stanford. I hope he lights it up today.

If OU wins out the Texas game will be seen as a fluke, an aberration, and insignificant. Based on what we have done since, apparently that game was indeed a fluke, an aberration and insignificant.

This is the type of game that I won't be sure who I want to win until the game starts. At some point, a play will happen and I will cheer or groan than then I'll know who I'm rooting for.

Go Oklahoma State Cowboys! OU winning a national title is never good for recruiting, bragging rights, etc. What exactly has aggy's win over bama led to? 8 win seasons?

I had to take a one week continuing education course on the OU campus 20 years ago. Nice campus, nice faculty and I really enjoyed my time there. I don't ever yell OU sucks anymore and if they seem to deserve it, I'll root for them. What happened to us vs OSU left a sour taste and my mouth and this year, I'm rooting for OU. I sure as hell like the Sooners better than the Bears.

Yeah, I think that we can agree that there's a problem!

I wouldn't say that exactly. I don't want that to be the whole identity of the program, but if "We beat the national champions" helps us win a few big recruits, I wouldn't mind Strong saying it in a living room or two. The next recruiting class or two are key to getting back on track, and right now, we have few results to sell.

Rooting against a rival just for spite, even if it hurts your own school...that sounds like aggy. The worst part? A&M has a better record than us for the fourth consecutive year. Being more like them would be an improvement. It kills me to say that.

Htown, you're right, OU winning a natty probably isn't good for recruiting either...so maybe I'll stop once they get to the playoffs. But "We beat a playoff team" doesn't have the same ring, so...
This season sucks, did you know that? Maybe my frustration is getting me confused.

OU sucks. When does next season start?

I am as well for the sake of a big 12 team making the playoffs and hopefully getting to the championship game. Tired of our conference being looked down on due to not having a title game even though we should have expanded by now.

OU winning is never good. Never. In 08 I remember people rooting for OU over Tech. Idiots. We lost that championship try when Mack didn't milk the clock on that last drive. It was on us. I knew we'd get screwed if OU made the NC game and it made our great win in 08 meaningless. I want our win in October to mean something. Keep them out of the playoffs. Maybe keep them out of a new years day bowl.

Always root for anyone over OU. That's what your #1 rival should get. Go Pokes.

I cheer for one team and one team only! While I might enjoy someone's demise (A$$clown Art) I do not cheer or root for another school, especially Blow U!

Any Hornfan pulling for OU is crazy!

Do you really want to live with having your nose rubbed into more of that 7/8 MNC **** and listen to how they have five Heisman trophys; since Baker went North from Austin to OU and may win the Heisman with a win tonight?

The toothless Oklahoma goobers hate on Texas all over the state, but the OU type are the worst. They have the whole F------ country throwing the Horns sign down in disrepect. They say that is "their sign" since they started that crap. They almost sell more stuff with our logo upside down than they do their own logo.

I don't know who they pay off but they seem to get a lot of favorable treatment. No way TCU or Baylor would be considered with one loss, but OU getting handled by a bad Texas team and beating Baylor and TCU when their quarterbacks went down has become a darling of the "Committee". They have put them in the penthouse while a lot of other one loss teams, like the ones they play tonight, are in the Committee's shithouse. Go figure.

If they get to the big dance and win another MNC they will ride high in the saddle for the next 3-5 years. Any Hornfan pulling for OU is crazy!

Course we didn't even make a phone call to Mayfield. Guy is fun to watch, has tons of passion, and good wheels. He actually reminds me some of Colt, but not as accurate of a passer.

I have seen Mayfield play at DKR and in the Cotton Bowl for two different teams and he sucked both times.

Mayfield will be sucking next month most likely, as one of the four or five candidates, at the Heisman Trophy award show in New York.

I never root for Oklahoma, ever. Period.

    Some weird stats:

Three times in the last 10 seasons (2006, 2008, 2015) Texas beat OU, somewhat decisively in each contest, and Oklahoma won the conference. In that time span, Texas only played for two conference championships (2009, 2013).

In the past eight seasons [2008, 2009, 2015 (maybe)], someone from the Red River Rivalry played for the national championship. Texas won all of those contests as well.

To be honest with y'all, I'd trade almost each of those victories (other than 2009 of course) to be in the shape of Oklahoma's program, especially this year. :whiteflag:

I am just saying, he did suck both times he played us. Playing in the final four does not change that.

Stoops commented last week in a phone interview on The Herd, that he feels fine at OU, and remarked the benefits having had the same AD and President the whole time he's been there. Said it helped maintain consistency for the most part.

Give Stoops credit. After losing to us, the Okies were on his a@@. But, he pulled his team together and now they'll play for the MNC with a Tceh reject at QB! Pretty amazing.
