The age thing is sitting out there for me to. I'll be 56 next month. Feel like I'm losing the entire decade of my 50s. Men in my family never make it out of their 70s. Damn Horns, get it together. I might only have 2 more decades left. I'm running out of time.

For the longest time, everyone though Mack Brown was the only reason Stoops was even keeping his job because he'd show up and crush Texas, and then play so-so the rest of the season, and drop games against teams not up to par.

Then 2013, and this year happened, and OU alumni really wanted him out the door.

Maybe Strong will surprise us and do that next season after Notre Dame beats Texas by 70 in the opener next season. I doubt it though...

A lot of us old guys suffered from 1970 to 2005. That's 35 long years that saw the rise of aggy and the reemergence of blowu. I remember the relief I felt when, on Jan. 5, 2006, we beat an unbeatable SC team.

But now, I'm not confident that I'll live to see another one. Maybe TEXnSEATTLE will volunteer to sell his soul to the Devil to get us another MNC. Remember to hold out for a better deal than Stoops got from the Hooved One.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Yes, I too am one of those old guys.

My Dad is 90 now (UT class of '1948) and I was afraid until 2005 he might not see another NC in his lifetime.

Now I am concerned we have a another long valley to go through to get back to the top...

It really is a good thing for us that OU does well. The fact of the matter is they are one of our only guaranteed marquee games of the year. The Big 12 is a much better conference than it is given credit for but so much of that has to do with the low levels of fan participation, pageantry and overall lack of national appeal of most member schools. For example, despite having really exceeded the accomplishments of either aggy or Mizzou in the Big 12, TCU and Baylor get very little traction from it. While aggy is still aggy and proved along with Missouri that the SEC hype is fake (both had immediate success and if anything have gotten worse) the atmospheres of those games is light years ahead of every other conference.
Long story short, OU winning gives us a marquee game with national appeal. It makes the rivalry much more exciting and provides a ton of exposure for both programs and the converence. You can say all you want that you don't care about conference but you should know better by now. It is conference alleagiance alone that has sold a farm school on a dirt patch in the middle of nowhere, TX to the best players in our State the past few years. If we aren't going to move on to another conference then I'm, at least for the moment, all in for Baylor, TCU, OSU, Tech and even OU to be successful. A stronger conference is not only better for luring recruits but much more fun for the fans.

I tried to root for the land thieves one time because their win would help Texas in the rankings. They lost. I vowed never to do that again.

Sorry Big 12, my hatred for the crimson and cream goes way beyond my support for the conference.

In games like this, watching the game usually gives me the answer, and as it turned out, i pulled for OU. It's the right decision for the Big XII - any team but OU would have likely been shut out of the playoffs. That's two straight years, and don't think that doesn't have an impact on recruiting. Texas needs the Big XII to be nationally respected. That helps us more than OU winning hurts us.

Recruiting against OU doesn't worry me. We've had no problem recruiting great classes while OU was recruiting well at the same time. In many cases, you're talking about two different groups - the kids who want to leave state and the ones who want to stay close to home. I'm a lot more worried about recruiting against Baylor or A&M. (Ugh... that made me feel dirty to say.)

If it helps, here's a Biblical perspective. God used the Babylonians - a bunch of bloodthirsty, immoral, power-hungry heathens - to bring about His plan for Israel. He didn't approve their actions, He simply used them in view of the big picture. So I feel like I can go one step farther and pull for the Sooners.

(And by "pull", I mean not be upset over them winning in this situation. It helps to remind myself that they're going to win or lose regardless of how I feel about it, so wishing a humiliating failure on them is a waste of energy and brain functionality anyway.)

Eh, with the Irish losing, Okie State would have likely been in had they won. But they always Okie State it up.

Neither did Stoops. Neither did anyone else -even Rice or UTEP didn't want him. And Tech didn't need him. They just don't have a defense.

I wonder... I am not sure if OSU could have made the cut. Plus, Notre Dame's argument is actually stronger now, if you think about it. Because the main reason people said they belonged was because of their one quality loss. Well... now they have two of them, so they ought to be a lock now, right???
