Who gets in?

Only 2 spots in the CFP are locked up: Oklahoma, and the winner of Iowa / MSU. Two more teams control their own destiny: Alabama and Clemson.

If Alabama or Clemson loses, next in line will be Ohio State. Do they get leapfrogged by 2-loss, conference-champs Stanford or Florida? If it is Clemson that loses, do they stay ahead of OSU?

And what if Alabama and Clemson both lose? Could one-loss, conference champ UNC squeak in, especially if Stanford loses also?

    I think so.
Then again, something else might happen. Would it actually be possible for North Carolina to win impressively and get in? Anything seems possible with this committee.

Alabama is the big monkey wrench. I feel inclined to think the committee is in love with Ohio State but not a conference champion? Still only one loss.

Alabama and Clemson loosing would really bring out the more teams issue.

I am sure the payoff committee will find a surprise team to replace the B12 selection.

IMHO, Alabama, MSU, & Ohio St are the best three teams at this point. The win at Michigan yesterday (OSU) was the best win out of any top tier team this year. I see all three teams shutting down OU much like Texas did.

OU's wins against Baylor and TCU should have big *'s by them. And we all know that OKSt was a fraud. But i fear that OU will get in because they have always been media darlings. Does anyone honestly believe that OU would have spanked Michigan in Ann Arbor?

As long as Alabama and Clemson win, it will be those two, the winner of the BIG, and OU. I truly believe that OSU should replace OU.

North Carolina should be 9th in the newest poll. That's too low to jump into the final four especially considering the problems with their schedule. Alabama and Clemson losing results in Ohio State and possibly Stanford making it in and creating a real problem by Clemson still being ranked ahead of UNC. Remember this isn't the AP or coach's poll where you automatically drop based on when you lost which is bullcrap to begin with.

Michigan State's win at Ohio State without their starting QB was better.

I think the B12 conference champ needs to be in. ou beat the hell out of osu. ou deserves to be in as much as anyone else. our conference is as tough as any. the sec plays good defense, and uninspiring offense.

I don't think any team from any of the other conferences could go through the Big 12 undefeated. That includes msu, tosu, bama, Clemson, etc.

If UNC beats Clemson they are both 12-1 and the Tarheels should be in, but probably won’t unless they win convincingly. I like Larry Fedora and would like to see his team whip up on Clemson.

Bama will likely destroy Florida, I don’t think that will even be very competitive but who knows.

Real question is will Alabama jump Clemson for #1? Clemson squeaking by one of the bad SEC teams wasn't very impressive.

Probably no better than 50/50 that ou gets in. Remember last year at this same time TCU was 3; beat the crap out of ISU in their last game; and ended up outside. To be sure they get in, ou had better hope everyone else with one loss (except Alabama) loses again.

Excuse me but Bama LOST to a mediocre $EC team who got killed by that same Florida team that was spanked by FSU. But you want to demote Clemson for WINNING ???? WHY do people excuse Bama ??????

I think OU is a lock at this point. For whatever reason early losses are overlooked when a team is playing strong at the end.

Because the Chairman of the Committee is the AD of a $EC school and knows his job is to get at least one $EC school in with the highest possible seeding. Next weekend he will campaign to have Alabama matched against the best team Alabama has a chance against. If ou gets in, they stand a better than average chance of out scoring Alabama so I would look for ou to be matched against someone other than Alabama.

If Bama stays #2, OU will drop to #4 due to not having a title game if they don't want Bama facing them. Or they will move Bama to #1 after they kill a weak Florida team while Clemson struggles against a good UNC team, and Iowa and MSU have a war.

I agree that OU and B1G champ (probably MSU) are in and that Clemson and Bama control their own destiny. I dont think committee jumps Bama over an undefeated Clemson. As for who better match up is for Bama, Michigan State has the same type of team as Ohio State last year and can ring up a lot of points (ask Baylor about MSU in a bowl) so either way Bama gets a tough matchup in semis. Funny thing is Clemson is weakest so if really wanted to help Bama move them to fourth and let OU and MSU beat each other up. If Iowa wins then thats who everyone wants in the semis.

If Clemson and Bama win out I see rankings as:

    Clemson
    Bama
    OU
    B1G Champ

If Clemson and Iowa win, my guess is that they would be ranked #1 and #2 as the only undefeated teams.

OU is the only team that is definitely in. That isn't going to change.

The only other given is either Iowa or Michigan State gets in.

Everything else depends on results next week.

OU is a lock at anywhere from # 2-4. They kicked #11 OSU in the balls, rubbed their noses in their own filth and screwed their girlfriend and momma (which is usually the same person) in front of them at their own house. Don't let your hatred for OU blind you to basic, common sense. OU is one of college football's bluebloods - In other Hillbilly words...they ain't no low life, bottom dwellin' hornytoad beatin' the $hit out of a skid mark of a team like ISU.

Can you imagine the crowds at Jerry's World and the TV ratings for a crimson turd and Sooner showdown of college football royalty on New Year's Eve - especially after the beat down OU gave AL in the Surgar Bowl 2 yrs. ago? That would be epic - no former SWC member could challenge that except a top 5 UT team and that isn't going to happen as long as CS is around.

If that happens Strong had better not use beating ou and Baylor in the same season as the excuse to keep his staff.

Don't worry the committee will rank all of Alabama's SEC opponents to justify their #1 ranking if they beat Florida.

As I have mentioned on several occasions, Alabama has an automatic "get out of a loss free" card.

If Charlie keeps his staff, we might as well fire him December 6th, because we will be firing him next year anyway. Might as well get a year's jump on rebuilding now. A new staff should be prerequisite to him getting a third year.

If that team is a traditional powerhouse.

If they also started the year as one of the favorites to win it all, they can even get a late loss overlooked (OU 2003, LSU 2007).

As much as I would enjoy watching the Horns decimate Baylor, reality is that it's not going to happen. Even with all of our players healthy, the probability of us winning in Waco is nearly zero. I'm ready for this season to be over and see what happens post 12/05 as far as staff changes and recruiting. My hope is that some of the staff is shown the door and we get a solid replacement in the coordinator and position coach slots. However, we have seen over many years, that HCs are reluctant to part ways with staff members (buddies) even when they obviously are not or are incapable of producing results. Blind loyalty will get an HC fired in a New York minute. Recruiting, who knows how that will go. I would like to hear the explanation to a recruit of taking over an 8-5 team, posting a 6-7 first year and a 4-8 second season. If Strong pulls in another top 10 class (and all of them qualify this time), then he must be some sort of recruiting pied piper. I'll believe it when it happens. The period between the final gun at Baylor and the end of NSD is critical to this program.

Amongst the relevant factors that could work our way:
    • Freshman are given a chance to play from day 1 if they are good enough.
    • UT has first-class athletic facilities.
    • UT plays games against top-quality competition all around the country.
    • Recruits will have a chance to be part of something great from the ground up. If they turn the programs around, they will be part of something legendary.
    • Austin is, well, Austin.
    • Coach Strong builds character.
These factors won't appeal to everyone, but it should appeal to enough kids to fill a class. Or at least I hope so.
