Yeah Baby! Never a doubt! Great road win!! Looking forward to seeing the Miss State game on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are currently up vs. Savannah State by 59 pts, with a quarter still to play.

Nice win, beating a good team on the road. But they have to handle late game situations better especially the guards. Coach Aston will work on that with them, but nice win.

Can't say that I didn't have doubts! Especially after seeing our "panic play", but sure glad we won! We've got to get better on our sloppiness and quit taking low percentage shots......or high percentage easy shots in a panic. We could have beat them by 25 if we played like I saw us play towards end of season last year. On to the next!

Good Win!!! I do like the way the offense seems to have a more movement and cutting. The team got tight as Tenn made that late push. They will learn from that. Should have won by 15-20 points do to shot selection, missed layup and free throws.
This game went a long way in this team finding an identity. Higgs is the scorer, McCarty/Rodrigo got the threes covered, Lang/Boyette can cover the post, Taylor/Davenport/Hosey hustle plays. Now we need to find the mid-range shooter. And this team can make a huge jump. By March this team should be ready, barring injury.

Loving the play of Higgs, Boyette,Celina and Brooke.
    Great hustle by B.Taylor.
Once they learn when to slow the game down.
Texas will be a hand full, when A.Atkins ans Sanders comes back.

I think Atkins (and that sweet floater) has got that covered. Keep working hard, Ariel, we sure are looking forward to having you back!

Good win tonight, a bit sloppy at the end but we were at their place, left a lot of points on the board with missed ft, hope we can get that fixed. Lashann had a great game today

The mid-range player is Ariel Atkins. Kelsey is also one of our best mid-range shooter. When Ariel returns, Empress's minutes need to be diminished to a back-up specialty player on the defensive end for specific situations and match-ups. In fact, LaShann's minutes need to grow as Empress's minutes decline.

Empress's strength is her defense and dribble penetration (but both LaShann and Ariel has this covered). It remains my opinion that it is embarrassing to be a senior playing the 2-guard position to not have a mid-range shot (or a 3-point shot) and consistency at the free-throw line.

Good team win. Tennessee's offense reminded me of NBA-style offense, lots of one-on-ones, while Texas shared the ball, thus the 16 assists on 21 made baskets.

Although free-throw shooting appears to be one of Texas's greatest weakness, and may come back to bite Texas in the butt, there's ways to mask that deficiency. At end of game situations, the ones needing the ball in their hands to shoot free throws are Kelsey, Imani, Brooke, Celina, Ariel, and Brady.

I agree. I just can't seem to figure Empress out or why her game hasn't grown. And you are onto something with having her in a more situational setting.

I also think that a healthy Atkins is that mid range shooter kind of like Simone Augustus. If I had to pick a style that Ariel fits. I actually missed seeing Ariel's cross-over into the mid-range jumper. This injury took so much out of her game in terms of lateral movement, elevation on her shot and her ability to finish on the break. I do expect a lot of rust on her game when she does return, but hopefully she finds her rhythm. The team will need it in Big 12 play.

And Brady will be crucial with those corner 3s when she returns. The talent that has been assembled allows for players to be in their natural roles. Unlike last year with the injuries forcing adjustment. I still want more fluidity on the offense.

You're right about Ariel, that crossover into the mid-range jumper was something she did on a regular basis in high school and I didn't see that at all last year.

She is still capable of that move. Just hope the staff leaves her out long enough for her to come back and be productive. Heard that she had been doing too much on her own, without approval.

Unfortunately, Brady's surgery might be career ending. I'm not 100% positive but its what I've been told. If that's the case it makes me sick for her. She's one I miss seeing on the floor. She was definitely one that got better and worked hard to prove herself. She showed the true heart of the game. If the rumor is true I'm sorry to see her go out like that.

As far as Empress.....I see Aston changing the roles of these players constantly. Might be "awkward" to get settled in a new role with new players in the mix every other day. Until a set lineup is made we may be seeing a lot more roughness until it is more definitive. They are comfortable playing with the people they've been playing with then you add new players in the mix and most likely they have to get comfortable with how new players play. I have the confidence in Empress. She won us some imperative games with her fight.

The game was a great game to win even though it looked a little sloppy. Kudos to Celina! You can tell she's been working on her game! Throwing Ariel in the mix will be the cherry on top! As long as Higgs keeps playing like she is!

Texas exposed Tennessee's weaknesses. Though DeShields is a tremendous player, the Texas guard ensemble was quicker and better overall than the Tennessee guards. Our half court passing was superior. Tennessee lacks a really good creative point guard, or at least they didn't have one tonight. Our defense impressed me the most. Steal after steal. We shut down everybody on the perimeter except DeShields and we stifled their inside game. It's awfully hard to go inside against Imani and Kelsi. Our half court offense is better than it's been in ten years, no longer totally dependent on the big girls. Finally, perhaps most important--- six threes. Higgs hadn't made one all season and tonight she was three of five. When Texas is hitting the three, it opens up the driving lanes to the basket and we are hard to beat. Hope we keep making them. We are going to play better offensive teams than Tennessee, and in some of those games we will need high point production.

A few observations to supplement and support Dr D and others' comments......(1) Tennessee lacked the one outstanding outside shooter (other than DeShields) that they have had in the past. So our guards just gave them another 1-2 feet of buffer to discourage any drives and their guards could not take advantage of the extra space for 3's; (2) Tennessee had to respect our outside shooting so entry passes to Imani were much easier in the past and then she did an outstanding job of looking for the diver. Wish all the girls would dive (hard cut ) to the basket like Taylor does; The extra space opened up all sorts of other opportunities such as driving like Higgs was able to do; (3) It has been what seems like 10-15 years since we have had such good guard play. Ya'll will remember when our guards were overwhelmed and just tried to throw it somewhere to get rid of it. Now they are mostly under control and playing with a purpose. And turnovers were in the high 20's then and now they have been in the low teens; (5) McCarty is amazing in her decision making. It is REALLY hard for Coach to take her off the floor. Even when playing off the ball on the wing or the corner she just has such an impact on the game. I have such comfort when she has the ball in her hands or shooting. She didn't have a good percentage today but she is a point guard with a shooter's mentality..........apparently has a short memory and thinks the next one is going in; (6) I am still nervous when Rodrigo has to make decisions as it appears that at time she is simply trying to get rid of the ball. Having said that, she is much improved recently and an entirely different player than in her first year. I didn't think she would make it then and now am glad to admit I was wrong......a nice player; (7) Higgs has so much talent, skill and athleticism. She simply stands out from anyone on the floor on either side. She has no conscious in her shooting and is so confident it is amazing. She will shoot us out of some games at times in the future, but you live with that due to the impact she can have the other times. It is hard for a good coach to reign her in on her shooting because she is do dynamic. You cant take your eyes off her cause you are wondering what she is going to do next to amaze you. If she stays healthy she will so much fun to watch over the next 4 years. (8) I don't think Tennessee should be rated 4 in the country. They are missing a LOT from teams that were extraordinary in the past. There early season results indicated as such and it showed today. Plus the Horns had a lot to do with it as well. (9) Imani is not even close to where she was the last 3 years. She is light years ahead. It is obvious she is healthy now and has finally figured out stuff. We will miss her next year regardless of what our freshmen contribute; (10) Assuming Atkins is really coming back for conference games to give us a big guard to match up with Baylor's big guards, it will fun to see those two games. Lots more to say since I am so excited for the future of the Ladies but 10 observations is enough for a Sunday night. Can't wait till Wednesday and Miss State.

Have you guys ever watched this lady's videos? She is a Lady Vol Super Fan. I discovered her on the Boneyard, the UConn board.

    I like her very much.

I thought Brianna was pivoting above the free-throw line and not in the paint and therefore had 5-seconds to pass, shoot, or call time out before a closely guarded 5-second violation occurs instead of a 3-second violation.

She was definitely in the paint but she wasn't there very long before calling a timeout. Dribbled in, pivoted a couple of times then called for the TO.

This lady is pretty funny but I assume she was at the game and not watching the broadcast. She was talking about Cooper being a freshman and thinking too much, meanwhile the leading scorer for UT was a true freshman (pointed out repeatedly by the commentators). Given, it might help Higgs a bit to think a bit more or slow down on offense a hair, but she was the spark that changed the momentum of the game.

I like her a lot. I think her name is Margo, and she has a lot of pretty astute observations about defects in the Tennessee offense, in between rants about the officiating. And I have to agree with flash34: Tennessee was not the fourth best team in America. They've barely been surviving close games against minor opponents.

Lashann obviously played well, but she's not playing the point guard position like Cooper.
