Talking with my son who is a freshman at UT about the different things he would do if he were AD. Would he keeps Charlie for another year or not? When I asked the question about if we got beat by ou he immediately said he would already be fired.....he calls it a fluke win.... Hard to disagree.... I have mixed feelings, either you think CS can do the job or not. So far the win against ou and the fact that half of the guys on the field are freshmen or red-shirt freshman makes me think he gets another year. Without the win he would be gone. Thoughts?
I don't think it was necessarily a fluke win. I think this is a really immature team, that is still learning who they are (and they have to know that before they can be consistently dominant.) I think what we saw against OU is who they are on their best day. The team has a high ceiling but the floor can fall out of it on any given day too. Without that win, though. Yes, he would be gone. But we did win!
15 true Frosh and 15 RS Frosh played for TCU this year...Kind of a young immature team too....Sure didn't hurt their WON-LOSS record all that bad did it...That youth excuse is like *** holes....Everyone has one and they all stink.
They have an experienced QB take Boykin out of the equation and look what happen, same for Baylor when Russell went down
There is zero doubt OU saved Strong's job, which is garbage. One win should not wipe out the other 14 losses and tons ofblowouts. Hell we will have lost every other big game he's coached but that one, including one to OU. Imagine if we were 4-8 but with wins over Rice, KSU, KU, and WVU. And every big game CS coached to date we blew. There wouldn't be a single win to really hang the hat on. But since he won THE big game once, he'll be back.
This is a very incomplete comparison. Our freshmen are playing the most important positions on the field, QB, DB OL, DB, LB. And then we've had injuries that require we put 2nd and third teamers to play where the freshmen went down. But the most significant reason TCU did so much better than us is that they had two all americans playing dominant ball. Trevan Boykin at QB, and Josh Dotson at WR. Had we had just those two all season our record would have been reversed. Remember, Boykin's first year to play QB TCU won 4 games.
TCU started two true freshmen and one RS freshman. Yes, they did a good job of working youth onto the field. But they didn't count on youth to carry the team like we did.
So is there a zero percent chance Strong is fired regardless of how the Baylor game goes ... even a 50-7 type beat down and he stays?
I would say, 'Fellas, forget about it. It's only one loss. Let's win the rest of our games, climb the rankings, win the conference, and then make for the playoffs--and let's just see if we can win ourselves a national championship.'
OU simplified their blocking schemes since the Texas game and made the run game come simpler to them, in an effort to control the line of scrimmage a bit more. they've been on a tear since.
