This could be a very tough game. UTA is 5-1. They've beat Memphis and Ohio State. Only loss was to La tech by 4 points. Good Luck to the young Horns; all focusness will be needed.
They are good enough to make you stand up and take notice of the Mavs. A cream puff team does not go into those two places back-to-back and come out with 2 wins. This is going to be a major, major challenge for our guys.
http://realtimerpi.com/ncaab/Men.html According to this link, tOSU is 35, Memphis is 116. We are 58, and UTA is 159. Scouting Report According to this, we have about an 86% chance to win. Problem is, I'm not sure there have been enough games played to give these numbers a lot of weight.
UTA also got to play four games in the Bahamas in August. That has to help a team get ready for the season. La Tech beat them 80-68 and they also beat Ohio State. UT Arlington Official Athletic Site - Men's Basketball
The basketball IQ of this team is not very high, and they do not play very good defense. Hopefully it is just adapting to the new system. Not looking good right now. UTA up 20-19.
Not sure what it is about UT athletics right now, but we pretty much suck in all major sports right now. UTA up 27-19 and it is no fluke. UTA playing harder and smarter, sharing the ball and taking good shots, getting almost every 50-50 ball. The Horns look lost half the time.
I guess we can live through our volleyball team and women's basketball team since our football and men's basketball suck.
I am trying to figure out, what type of Offense Texas run. The offense act like they are afraid to attack the basket. Nothing design to get Ridley the ball. Either is he calling for the ball. They need more hustle too.
We get in our own way just like our football team. Turn the ball over without the other team doing anything...
Most of the time it just looks like they are trying to play fast without any positive objective. The transition defense appears worse than some of Penders teams. If they don't get it soon, it is going to be a long conference season.
UTA is well coached. They have great spacing and awareness especially on rebounding. They are killing us on the boards.
Ugly final possession before OT. Reminded me of the Taylor from last year. Hold it until 10 seconds left, drove into 3 defenders, jack up a horrible shot.
Good win for Texas, if they could make free throws down the stretch in regulation, could avoid these kind of finishes. The way games are called now, you just have to make free throws or it will cost you, in tough games. Texas should improve, but you just can't leave the wide open shooters they do pretty often. Everybody going for blocks doesn't leave anybody for the defensive rebound. So many offensive rebounds for opponents. Still, they won against good opposition. They play hard and seem to be getting better.
I would like to see Davis, Felix and Taylor be aggressive the whole game. Ridley need to play hard for 40 minutes. Still trying to figure out, why is Holland starting.
Notice how the complainers disappeared from the thread when Texas started playing better? Love it when the gloom squad jumps the gun on here.
That was a nice win for Texas - definitely some sloppy moments early but I thought the second half was some pretty good basketball against a team that's very likely going to end up in the tournament if they keep playing at that level. The free throws are just mystifying at this point because there's no reason why they shouldn't be a good shooting squad. I forget if it was the orange-white game when they shot close to 80 percent, and I was thinking "well if nothing else, we'll hit free throws this year." Guess not!
Roach's dunk was the lead story on ESPN's Sportscenter, with Brad Van Pelt. He said you will be seeing him on this show many more times in the future.
