It is sad to see the University of Texas football program is in such bad shape that we hear comments like this from the head coach.

Agree. The statement is well intended but inaccurate. All too often in the Strong era they have not competed, and they have been embarrassed.

A coach who's final game mentality (Game 25) is to compete and not get embarrassed will suddenly turn it all around in 9 months and enter the season likely to win most games?

Oh the massive denial just how far this team has fallen under CS. Expecting anything more than 7-6 in 2016 is denying reality. And if 7-6 or even 8-5 is good enough after 3 full seasons....wow.

8-5 is where we canned the last guy. Not to mention that would bring CS's total record to 18-20 at Texas. If a head coach can't produce a 3-year non-losing record at UT he has no business being here and making $5 mil / year.

I wonder how happy Michigan fans are right now compared to Texas fans. Shame more don't grasp that a solid head coach hire can change fortunes rapidly with the resources we have. Guaranteed it would be light years faster than the excuse ridden 5-year rebuild plan we're prisoner to now. :puke:

I don't know. They got peter-rolled by tOSU and lost to their little brother MSU.

How happy were Texas fans when we were winning most of our games but getting destroyed by OU and also losing to aggy?

I remember early last year Charlie saying "this team won't be in the title game" or something to that effect.

Even if you believe it to be true, you don't say that to your team because you immediately lower their expectations for themselves. You don't have to tell them they're the greatest team ever but negativity like this is counter-productive. Lower the standards and folks will probably meet them.

Holly Cow its the guys first year after a disastrous tenure under the previous coach under any rational educated football fans perspective that program is way ahead of schedule under Harbaugh. They aren't good enough yet to beat top 10 teams but they look to be a team that will soon.

Seeing as 2014 Michigan got drubbed by tOSU and Mich St, I'd assume the new team with a 9-3 record and huge promise is world's more satisfying than the 5-7 one last year.

But then again, CS apologists can pretty much spin anything to fit the 'he deserves more time' narrative. :puke:

    Meatchicken started out unranked,
lost the first game to Utah on the road (who a bit later was being taken seriously as a Final Four team),
then after getting to 4-1 joined the top 25,
    rising to #10 at 9-2,
and now at 9-3 is still in the top 25.

I'd say most UM fans are satisfied with Harbaugh's first year, even if they lose their bowl game and finish 9-4.

Happier than fans with a team that's 6-7 and 4-7(8).

If Meatchicken goes 6-7 and 4-8 in 2016 and 2017, I think Harbaugh would be shown the door.

The team sucks. We have zero depth, very, very little talent and are short on experience. Call them excuses or call it reality. Didn't we play the toughest schedule in football this year? We're just not there yet and wouldn't be if we dug up Vince Lombardi.

This statement is just sad. Implicit in the statement is that this staff is not even trying to win the game. They will be satisfied if they only lose by 20. It doesn't matter whether there are injuries or not, most teams are beat up at this point. This defeatist attitude has infected the team and it shows in their play and absolute inability to come from behind.

It's funny how the coach doesn't take any of the responsibility for the team sucking in this kind of analysis. It's not Charlies's guys kind of analysis like he should not be expected to coach up guys he did not recruit ( I disagree completly ). Also I am curious how we have enough talent to beat OU but not Iowa State.

4-8 and "we're just not there yet". Priceless.

Yeah that tough schedule was the problem, especially the part being shutout by 3-9 ISU, drubbed by 7-4 WVU, and falling to 7-5 Tech AT HOME against a non-existent defense. Not a one of those teams has a winning record in conference.

We are 7th place of 10 Big 12 teams. 5 teams in our own state are better than us. I agree we are not "there"...we are nowhere near "there". There's not a shred of evidence the word "yet" belongs after "we're not there".

If "there" means legitimately battling it out with OU, TCU, and Baylor for the Big 12 title...enjoy the next 2 seasons not being "there" either.

Strong said after the shutout loss to a terrible Iowa State team that the team is not embarrassed. I am pretty sure that if the team was not embarrassed by being shut out by a 3-8 Iowa State team, they are beyond embarrassment.
I would like Texas to embarrass Baylor as I am sure they would be embarrassed by losing to this Texas team. Texas has the talent to beat OU and they have the talent to beat Baylor, they just don't have the coaching leadership.

This business of saying we have the talent to beat OU but not ISU is just faulty logic that we don't really need to get into. It isn't possible that OU had an off game? That's never happened before? Every time an underdog beats their opponent it's as good as saying that would happen 50% of the time??
Our QB's suck, our OL sucks, our RB's suck and our best playmaker is Daje and he's a far cry from the Romance (yes, I know) Taylor's of yesteryear. That's just the offense. The bulk of our best players are true freshman. That alone is a huge indicator of the lack of talent/experience.

Priceless because nobody has ever had a poor record only to rebound and go on to success? Not sure I follow.

Charlie Strong has the worst winning percentage over his first 2 seasons since Dana Bible in 1938...77 years ago. Of the 7 UT head coaches since Bible, not a single one failed to record 11 wins over the first 2 seasons.

CS has the 2nd lowest winning percentage over his first two seasons in all of UT coaching history (1893). More time? Mack's fault?

Did DKR blame Ed Price's 1-9 program when he went 6-4-1 the first year?
Did Akers blame DKR's 5-5-1 program when he went 11-1 his first year?
Did McWilliams blame Akers 5-6 program when he went 7-5 in Year 1?
Did Mackovic blame McWilliams 5-6 program when he went 6-5 in Year 1?
Did Brown blame Mackovic's 4-7 program when he went 9-3 the first year?

Every single coach since Bible has taken a non-winning program and won more games and produced a winning season the first year.

But nah, CS is failing because Mack's 8-5 team left a bare cupboard. DKR inherited a 1-9 team. Every coach since Bible has inherited a worse performing team than what Mack left.

Have some Longhorn pride. For the last 77 years no new coach has made that damn excuse and flopped like CS.

The dirt burglers thought all they had to do was show up, done deal. They learned their lesson that you have to go balls to the wall for 60 minutes and that is exactly what they have done the rest of the season. This team after playing for 60 minutes in one game apparently decided all they had to do was show up for the rest, done deal.

Personally, I prefer the attitude of maybe we'll beat them by 21. Where is James Brown when you need him.

To be fair to Charlie it isn't him blaming Mack. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, he's publicly shot down the idea that Mack left him this mess.
I'm not suggesting that what Strong has done so far is acceptable, I'm saying that we are sorely lacking in the experience, talent and depth departments. That is a recipe for disaster. I saw a breakdown of the every class from 2012 or something like that and when you look over the number of mere contributors was mind blowing.

Let's face it, Charlie is in (way) over his head, and is the par excellence example of the Peter principle by having risen to his level of incompetence. He had no clue how to put together an offensive coaching staff, and after two years, I'm not sure he'll do any better the second time around.

May I say to those who would not trade places with Michigan that you have the IQ of a lima bean? Jim Harbaugh has a record of turning teams around at both the collegiate and professional levels, and except for a freakish event on the last play against the Spartans would have finished in a three way tie for first in the Big 10. Is there anyone who would not trade Strong for Harbaugh as our coach?

It should be embarrassing to us to hear these comments from the HC at the University of Texas. On LHN last night I watched CS discuss the Tech game film. That was hard to watch / listen to. He said precious little about the 4th and 7 long pass play that doomed the team. Finally toward the end I couldn't take it anymore and changed the channel.

I'm glad you brought this up did OU have an off game absolutely and they lost, is it possible Texas has been having quite a few off games and that is why we are in the state we are in, its quite possible Iowa State being a prime example. So then the question is why does this team underachieve when lesser programs with lesser talent seem motivated and prepared on a consistent basis.

Speak the truth my friend. I hate the poor Charlie has it rough and we shouldn't expect too much thought process some of that is inside the program and that is why the program sucks right now.

I would probably use inconsistent as opposed to underachieve but either way my answer is the same. Our best players are mostly underclassmen and our QB's are brutal.

My point is part of the reason we beat OU is that our players came out and played with great effort and motivation ( save our coach ). Yet we have lost multiple games mainly because we did not play with that same burning desire to win. The one thing a top flight coach should be able to influence is the teams effort.
