''I think our guys will go out and compete,'' Strong said. ''They don't want to get embarrassed.''

Gotcha. I think the gameplan for OU was a very good one. What did we throw, 8 passes?? I just don't think they were ready for Heard and it might have helped to have had Norvell running the show since he was on Stoops' staff. After that teams may have adjusted and decided that Heard was going to have to beat them with his arm and he just isn't that kind of QB. Ultimately that was our only shot this year - to have an off schedule type QB - being that our OL is so galactically awful that we have 2 starting true freshman, which is unheard of.

I totally agree. OU wouldn't be the hot team today if it weren't for the 7 pt. embarrassing loss to UT. All of the OU players have said as much. That humiliating loss to a $hitty UT team galvanized and bonded their players and coaches to a point where many pundits are picking them to win it all. And they all say something like, "That head scratching loss to the Longhorns..." Since that abortion of a game, OU has won by an average score of 52-19, a Big 12 Championship, a Heisman Trophy candidate and a birth in the CFP.

That's what embarrassment does for some people. It's like you go from bedding a cross-eyed Sally with bad breath and the clap to making love to "Carnal Knowledge" era Anne Margaret.

UT is a laughing stock (spelling changed for the Nazi spelling police - get a life hall monitor nerd ) of a team to many people and that used to be reserved for the likes of Baylor, Slippery Rock and Panhandle State. My, my - UT hasn't been in this bad of shape since FDR was doing wheelies in his wheelchair.

UT is a "laughing stalk" of a team.

Your Sooner education brings many laughs, it's why it's compared to many Junior Colleges, throughout the country.

Well, we'll always have spelling smack to thrown down, even if the team wins 4 games a year.

    I agree.
Usually this is done by threatening your upper class starters that if they don't perform you will replace them with someone who will, even if the replacements are underclassmen. Or, you get your upperclassmen leaders to get the underclassmen jacked up.
Tough to do when your best players have never been through a full season of college ball.

My reaction to the comment wasn't a coach's praise of his players as men, as much as a play on usc traditional reference to themselves as men of troy.
But I get your point that a coach is a leader.

I love it when we over-analyze comments, taking one sentence uttered and extrapolate a mountain of meaning from it.
As fans what else can we do when we're losing.

God I hope we beat the F outta Baylor.

    That is all.

Good one. Let me add, and not in a malicious manner, that there are plenty of lima beans here on this board...

When did this happen? Like the 80s or 90s?

We lost to OU and aggy in 2007 and 2010. We lost to OU by 7 both times and to aggy by 8 and 7. Mack lost to aggy 4 times and was destroyed by OU 4 times but none of those years matchup. He only lost to both in the same season twice. Also, we beat OU in 2007 if Charles does not fumble into the endzone.

In 1993 we lost by 21 to OU and 9 to aggy so I guess you were referring to that year? Before that 1986, 1987 and 1988? I guess Akers, Mackovic, and McWilliams were all fired but they generally did not have a winning record like Harbaugh (except in 1987 we went 7-5). Harbaugh is 9-3 year 1.

Hey, 63 Frosh never said that he didn't like lima beans. He was simply making an informed observation about their IQ which seemed logical to me... :catfight:

    No Doy get's it!

Put an average passing QB on this team even Mahomme's from Tech and Texas would likely win significantly more games.

No one can see the future. If CS recruits well in the offseason Texas will be greatly improved. Especially if we get that JUCO QB Jared Evans.

Trump, Buffett, Mark Gardner (Motley Fool founder) did not get to be Billionaire's by following the crowd and falling in to the trend. Texas will set a trend in the Big 12 by trusting CS, even at 5-7 this year.

No kidding on the rush yards.
That and how many turnovers did they have?
Hard to lose a game with those two factors in your favor.

If anybody really thinks the use of "stalk" was a spelling mistake, they should rethink things. Maybe if your typing in one of those Oklahoma earthquakes.

You might also recall that Texas beat Oklahoma, no smack required. I don't think anybody should be on another schools board talking any smack, when they lost to that school.

I would be uphauled if we let that one get away. :smile1:

This really is the problem. Most people are just mad about the losses since 2010 and no one can agree about how to get back to winning. Some thought Mack would turn it around. Some think Charlie will turn it around. Some think the next guy will turn it around. Some think it will take a few more next guys before it is turned around. Until one of the last 3 groups is right, there is going to be a lot of bickering unfortunately.

Also the bickering will be about everything. Every player, every coach, how long each coach should get (head or assistant), every play, off the field stuff, etc. Sadly, as long as we are losing, it's all up for grabs to bicker about because none of us actually know who is right or wrong. Anyway, hopefully winning happens sooner than later whoever the coach or quarterback.

In the meantime, I have to go bicker on another thread about an obscure Texas football history statement that was just one small point of a post. :smile1:

Strong has been an embarrassment for two years. Nothing will change in the Baylor game or next year.

Guys, the comment I made about Michigan was made simply to illustrate the idea that Texas fans are not happy under most circumstances. We aren't happy now, and we aren't happy when losing to our main rivals but winning the rest.

I did not make the comment as an attempt to offer a defense of Strong's performance, or to draw parallels to Harbaugh at UM. I simply answered Brad's rhetorical question.

^ false, I was very happy when we were winning and with the last coach. I enjoyed actually coming back from a bad start in 2013 to play for a big 12 title. I enjoyed the 2012 alamo bowl. I enjoyed beating a&m, ucla, byu and cal in 2011. I really only have not enjoyed 2010, 2014, and 2015. Only 2014 and 2015 highlights have been beating West Virginia, OU and Kansas State. However there were a lot of unhappy people that put us into this mess, yes. For some reason they are happy with worse results. I do not get it. I mean, if we lose to baylor, we win half has many games as 2013. We went 8-4 in 2013 and we are about to go 4-8. Half the wins, twice the losses.

Mack Brown's soul died on January 7, 2010. That is what got us into this mess.
