I can actually go this year instead of automatically losing a home game, this decision has been way too long in coming!
I always dine with Cowboys fans whether with my parents or my in-laws, so the move is good for me. I don't want to fight to watch a football game in a room with a lot of folks who didn't go to UT and have pretty much had their fill of football.
Simple economics. Put a quality product on the field against a quality opponent, you get a preferred time and huge audience. I was told that the move in the mid 70s was an attempt to appease television and experiment with loading T+1 with several games, plus A&M was trying to "get good". As I recall, some of our Thursday night games against A&M were among ABC/ESPN's largest audience - one was actually the largest audience to that time. This is not an appeal to add A&M to the schedule. The Aggies did what they did out of anger and hate. Let them live with it. A good college matchup will outdraw a meaningless NFL game, but we have to put a quality product on the field, be highly rated, and have an attractive matchup. Right now, ABC should be pushing to change some schedules and put either Baylor/TCU or OU/oSu on Thanksgiving night.
I liked the games on T+1. I could enjoy TG with the family then drive down to ATX either that evening or early the next morning, go to the game and drive home. I flew once....that was a mistake!
I'm cool with turkey day just would like to have one constant opponent and not the back and fourth but oh well I'll just go to the Cowboys game and then drive to Austin Friday in the am
It's not Thanksgiving today, but this post made me thankful to have a UT football oriented family where the game is prioritized and family plans are made around it.
Now that the NFL Network has joined in on Thanksgiving, there are NFL games all day. While I prefer college football over the NFL, the nation as a whole, prefers the NFL. It really is just a matter of money. The NFL is the biggest money maker in sports, in the US.
Easy, It is called, "Lack of leadership". It is time to poney up $2 million a year and hire Deloss Dodds to be Commissioner of the Big XII. Only two people that can un-f**k this cluster are Deloss and/or Oliver Luck.
The game will be afternoon. It will not be morning, and will not be night game....Probably noon or 3 pm game. Perrin's comments lead me to believe the lack of student attendance was one factor in deciding to move it....
I hope you are right. The students and me will need to drive to Austin in the morning to make the game. 11 am makes no sense.
In AAS Kurt Bohls' article...Perrin said it would not be a morning or night game...Would be between noon and 5 PM....
Thanksgiving weekend is in late November and it is usually pretty cool that time of year, so an afternoon game will be quite nice.
