Yeah, I know this is recruiting. http://insider.espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/classrankings
About 2 weeks ago this class was ranked at 40-42, and a couple of day back at 33-32. That was a rise like watching a rocket lift off yesterday!
Charlie did some amazing things in recruiting this time. I have not done the research on this, but I am pretty sure that no coach has ever pulled in two top-10 recruiting classes back-to-back, both after losing seasons. The rise from below 30 to top-10 in ranking within a day is something that probably has never happened either. You need some 7 or 8 four-star guys to be so surely wrapped up and allowed to wait till the NSD to have their ESPN time, for a rise like this to happen. I doubt anybody else but Charlie could have done that at the end of two losing seasons. You need to have unquestioned integrity, and extraordinary ability to explain your plan, along with "stick-to-it-iveness", to have that many kids trust you and stay with you. Charlie kept some 8 guys that some pretty good recruiters like Myles, Harbaugh, Fisher, Stoops, Sumlin, Briles, etc could not shake out of their conviction, for about 2 weeks in the end. Unbelieveble that a coach coming off 2 losing seasons could do that.
