He is also the reason why we already have a 5-star committed for 2017. Lagarryon Carson, who is only a 4-star now but is generally expected to move up to a 5-star by this time next year. So much so that some thought Lagarryon would be a commit that we would lose if Traylor somehow was taken away as a head coach last month by somebody. It was funny to see on Malik's periscope Charlie saying 5 minutes before Brandon Jones' announcement, "this is for Traylor's raise". Everybody was laughing. Charlie acted well for an hour and half, looking unsure if Brandon was in the bag or not, though we foujd out later that he had been told about an hour before by Brandon.
This is a good 3-minute video, Jane Slater talking with Jeff Traylor about the recruiting process and the importance of the high school coaches. As a former HS coach himself he gets it. We are really fortunate to have Coach Traylor on the staff.
Actually these "best recruiter" lists are quite unreliable. The head coach and the program count a lot more for many of these guys. I can guarantee that at least half of the guys our assistant coaches reeled in, would not be here but for Charlie's closing abilities. Basically, everybody who is an assistant coach to Charlie gets an automatic bump in the recruiter ratings. That was the case with Clint Hurtt, Watson, etc. Heck, even Joe Wickline was rated very highly last year for the OL haul. He is now universally accepted as one of the worst recruiters out there. At least 5 different guys who would be playing for Texas now have gone elsewhere just because of Wickline. That is how rude (well, that is a kind characterization) they found Wick's behavior to be. But the Vahes and Connors and others are here. Thanks to Charlie.
