Shaka picks up big time commit Andrew Jones!

    5-star -- #38 national and rising
Offers Arizona, Louisville, Baylor, and SMU.
Texas' 2016 class is now up to three with Jones, guard Jacob Young, and big man James Banks. Young and Banks signed during the early period.

I hate to be all political, but what we're seeing with the basketball program's recruiting efforts and excitement is such a stark opposite to what's going on with football. Someone (or several people) on that side of Bellmont really dropped the ball. Smart has enough personality to overcome obstacles. Strong doesn't.

Don't judge Strong until Feb 4th. The rollercoaster is climbing to the top right now

Or how about waiting to see if the recruits that Coach Strong brings in can actually play. I mean, who knows, maybe it doesn't really matter where a kid is or isn't ranked. How did all that excitement and personality turn out with all those highly ranked recruits the last 5 years of the Mack Brown era. The overwhelming majority couldn't play a lick once they stepped foot on a college football field. Let's wait and see whether or not a kid can actually play instead of looking at recruiting rankings because they obviously have no clue about who can play and who cant.

Glad he was at the game. Wish he'd been at one that might have motivated a little better crowd atmosphere. But still, it's a good sign!

Allen has been to several games this year, living in Austin and attending St. Stephens there, he comes often.

Can't help but think he's just taking advantage of the free court sides...

Texas is a cold prospect and he's not taking an official visit here. He doesn't appear to have any intention of signing with Texas. Guess you can't blame a kid for enjoying the handouts. Bet he got some comped nachos and soda out of the deal too.

why would you think Texas has no shot? He has consistently been involved with his recruitment, practices, games etc.

He's not taking an OV because he lives in Austin.

I didn't say Texas doesn't have a shot, we're just not a front runner. He's publicly admitted he wants to go play for a coach that develops big men. I don't know that Shaka has that pedigree. Prognosticators seem to think he's going to end up at Kentucky or Kansas.

He also has said he wants to play somewhere that will get him good exposure for the next level, and he wants to play immediately. He'd definitely be able to get right into the fold at Texas, and we've certainly had our share of marquis big man talent make the quick jump to the NBA.

My money is on Kansas though, for a few reasons I'm not going to mention here. I sure hope I'm wrong. Would love to see him suit up with our guys next fall.

I think Shaka has a legit shot to land Allen. Ibeh will be a second round pick because of how he has developed this year; Shaka is a very strong recruiter. Texas puts plenty of players in the NBA.

This kid, while talented is still pretty raw. He will require some bringing along, just as Miles did.

What Smart and the coaching staff have done with Ibeh is nothing short of amazing. You don't get much rawer than he was and now he is rapidly moving up the NBA draft charts.

I think it's between Texas and UH for him. Texas has an excellent shot, with what Smart is doing this season with the team and Ibeh.

Also there is this, I know he is a big fish at St. Stephens, but you need the right mentality to go along with your talent.

This is not the right attitude and Coach Smart could help with that aspect of the game too. Needless to say he was hit with a technical for this.

I saw it as throwing the ball inbounds, hoping the ball would bounce off the defender as his body was going out of bounds.

No, he had already come down with both feet out of bounds.

Then he turns his whole body around to throw the ball at the player that had slightly pushed him, while he was in the air. A common foul was called on the player that pushed him.

Why would he be trying to save the ball, when a foul had clearly been called? The whistle had sounded for it. It was obvious that he overeacted to the foul and retaliated, so a technical was properly called.

I guess I expected the video to be worse from your description. That one incident doesn't really show me some kind of long-term character issue. He didn't (1) hit someone or threaten them or get in their face; (2) argue with the referee or coach; (3) throw the ball at the other player's head or face--instead at his legs; (4) whine, cry, call attention to himself, act the clown, act all gansta, play to the crowd, gloat, etc.

I would definitely say, "cool it, man," but even right at that moment I wouldn't say, "this is going to ruin you if you don't get it under control."
