Two of the hottest teams in the league will in Austin this Wednesday night. Texas (21-1; 10-1) will host Oklahoma State (18-4; 8-3). A long winning streak will end that night. OSU has won six in a row, Texas five. Texas has a two game home winning streak going while OSU has a two game road game winning streak. Texas has a two game winning streak going over OSU. Lots of twos involved. Texas owns a 28-15 edge in the series.

OSU will bring the league’s leading scorer to Austin this Wednesday night. Brittney Martin (# 23, 6-0 Sr. G) averages 21.6 ppg for the season and 19.5 ppg in conference games, both tops in the league. Martin and Imani are the only two players averaging a double double in league play. Kaylee Jensen (# 54, 6-4 Soph. C) is the second leading scorer for the Cowgirls in conference play with a scoring average of 15.5 ppg. Both Martin and Jensen are making 50.8% of their FGs. Martin has taken 185 shots while Jensen has attempted 128. They are the only two Cowgirls that have reached triple digits in FG attempts. Mandy Coleman (# 3, 6-3 Soph. F/C) is third in FG mades/attempted and percentage: 39-79 for 49.4%. With Martin’s 94 makes and Jensen’s 65 added to Coleman’s 39, those three combine for 198 of OSU’s 272 made FGS or 72.7%. They also combine to take 62.3% of all the Cowgirls’ FGs. Roddricka Patton (# 23, 5-4 Sr. G) and Karlie Wheeler (# 24, 5-8 Fr. G) are the primary 3pt shooters for OSU. Patton is 15-52 (28.8%) from BTA while Wheeler has hit 12-30 (40.0%). LaTashia Jones (# 20, 6-2 Fr. F) has the highest 3pt % at 45.5% (5-11). Others to watch out for from BTA include Coleman (6-17; 35.3%) and Sydney Walton (# 10, 5-8 Soph. G; 4-20, 20.0%). Interestingly enough, of Martin’s 185 FG attempts in conference games, not one has come from BTA. Even Imani has attempted four treys and Jensen, Martin’s teammate has tried five. Jensen is the player that gets to the FT line, getting 68 tries from the FT line. But she has hit only 39 for a FT% of 57.4%. Martin has the next most FTs with 33, making 26 (78.8%).

Martin is the league’s leading rebounder in conference play at 11.8 rpg. She is the only Big 12 player averaging a double double for the season through the end of Sunday’s games. She and Jensen (8.8 rpg) are first and third in rebounding in conference games. Coleman is third on the team at 4.3 rpg. Patton tops the league in assists (8.4 apg) for conference play. Martin is second with 2.1 apg and Coleman adds 2.0 apg. OSU has only two players that have reached double digits in steals but they are doozies. Martin and Patton each has 25 steals in conference play. They are tied for third in the league for steals per game at 2.3 spg. Jensen (18 blocks) and Martin (13 blocks) give OSU two of the top 8 shot blockers in the league.

Martin, Jensen, Coleman and Patton have started all 11 conference games for the Cowgirls. Wheeler (one start), Walton (four starts), Katelyn Loecker (# 45, 6-0 Jr. F; five starts) and Alana Simon (# 1, 5-10 Jr. G; one start) have split the starts at the fifth position. Walton has started the last three games. Simon has not played since the 01/16/16 game versus OU which she started but only played one minute. Martin rarely comes off the court, averaging 38.5 mpg. Patton is close behind at 35.6 mpg. Jensen (29.5 mpg) and Coleman (25.5 mpg) also leave little time for subs. Wheeler, Loecker, Jones and Walton average between 14.5 and 16.1 mpg. Loecker and Jones are the primary frontcourt subs while Wheeler is the main backcourt sub. Jentry Holt (# 13, 6-3 Fr. F) has seen action in all 11 Big 12 games, averaging 7 mpg.

Horns have three players averaging double figures in scoring and a fourth just off that pace: Imani (13.9 ppg), Ariel (10.5 ppg), Brooke (10.3 ppg) and Empress (9.2 ppg). Four players are hitting over 50% of their shots: Imani and Ariel at 56.9%, Kelsey at 55.6% and Tasia at 52.9%. Two players have reached 100 FGs attempged: Imani (58-102) and Empress (33-100). Brooke (39-90) and Ariel (41-72) are the other leading shooters for the Horns. The Horns are 35.4% from BTA on 58 of 164 treys. Brooke has taken almost a third of those 3pters (24-53) and her 45.3% from BTA tops the team. Ariel (8-24; 33.3%), Empress (9-27; 33.3%) and Celina (10-31; 32.3%) are the other three main threats from BTA. Tasia (2-5; 40.0%) and Brady (4-12; 33.3%) are also dangerous from BTA. The Horns have been very good from the FT line with three players making at least 80% of their FTs: Imani (83.7%), Ariel (81.3%) and Kelsey (80.0%). Empress (78.8%) and Jordan (77.8%) have also been very solid from the FT line. Imani (36-43), Ariel (26-32) and Empress (26-33) have the best at getting to the FT line.

Imani continues to average a double double in Big 12 play. She leads Texas with 11.4 rpg. Celina is second with an average of 5.0 rpg and Kelsey third at 4.7 rpg. Brianna, who missed most of the ISU game with an ankle injury, averages 4.5 rpg. Celina’s 5.1 apg tops the Horns while Empress (2.4 apg) and Brooke (2.3 apg) help distribute the ball. Brianna leads the Horns with 23 steals. Celina is close behind with 17 while Ariel has taken it away 11 times. Imani has 47 of the team’s 75 blocks. Kelsey adds 13 blocks. Imani tops the conference in blocks during conference play and Kelsey is tied for 8th .

With Celina not starting the ISU game, the group of players that have started every league game goes down to three: Imani, Brooke and Empress. Others that have starts in conference games include Celina (10 starts in 11 games), Brianna (nine starts in 10 games) Ariel (one start in 11 games) and Kelsey (two starts in 11 games). Brooke continues to lead in minutes per game with 29.6 mpg. Celina plays 28.0 mpg. Imani gets her double doubles in just over a half of play, averaging 24.3 mpg. Empress matches Imani with 24.3 mpg while both Kelsey and Brianna average 20.3 mpg. Ariel is just under 20 with an average of 19.8 mpg. LaShann is the last player averaging double digit minutes at 11.1 mpg. Brady (9.6 mpg) and Jordan (9.1 mpg) are close to giving the Horns ten players that average at least 10 mpg.

Starting lineups are usually based on the starters for the last game, but with the uncertainty of Brianna’s injury, I will leave Ariel in the starting lineup in place of Brianna and keep Celina instead of subbing Ariel for her. Of course, we could go with our twin tower lineup.

    Texas______________OSU
    Imani (6-7)________ Jensen (6-4)
    Ariel (5-11)_______ Coleman (6-3)
    Empress (5-9)_____ Martin (6-0)
    Celina (5-8)_______ Walton (5-8)
    Brooke (5-4)______ Patton (5-4)

Martin and Jensen provide OSU with a potent outside-inside scoring/rebounding punch. Martin got her points (17) and rebs (13) in the first game but Texas limited Jensen to 8 pts and 6 rebs. Texas did not allow anyone else to support Martin in scoring. Meanwhile, Imani had 12 pts and 11 rebs while Jordan, coming off the bench, had perfect shooting game (4-4 FGs, 4-4 FTs) to score 12 pts. OSU had trouble stopping the 3pt shot as the Horns hit 6-12 from BTA. OSU comes in this second game as the leading team in 3pt defense. Realistically, the Horns were unable to stop Martin but were able to slow down or stop her teammates. On the other hand, OSU also had trouble stopping Imani and was probably surprised by how well Jordan played. Now, Ariel has started to blossom offensively, another player for OSU to worry about while OSU has started fairly constant. For Texas, the big question mark is whether Brianna will be able to play and play effectively after her ankle injury in the ISU game.

These two teams are basically mirror images of each other statistically. Horns shoot a bit better from BTA, OSU has a slight edge inside the arc. Texas is better rebounding, OSU getting assists and protecting the ball. Horns get the edge in blocks and steals. Horns blew OSU away at Stillwater in the first game, 78-48. Horns held OSU to single digits in the first and second half (13 pts total) to put the game away by the half. I don’t expect a repeat blowout but Horns are at home and should win. OSU has one of the top three teams in the league and will certainly remember how it got away from them at their home.

Game time is 7 PM CST. The game will be carried on the LHN. Radio broadcast will be on the Horn, 104.9 FM.

Imani needs to redeem herself after her performance on Saturday. She needs to stay out of foul trouble and get OSU's center into some foul trouble of her own.

i don't think they will. Texas has traditionally had trouble with OSU, this year's "at OSU" game notwithstanding. Of course, after that beat down, Texas may be a little overconfident. But i hope not.

Wonder if Ohio State will leap over us or if we'll move to number 5 in the nation with that Maryland loss

OSU scares me because they are playing better basketball and we seem to be going the other direction. Let's try to show up and give the team some energy on Wednesday! I think we are a better team but we have to start working on getting ready for March. Tighter rotation and better offense!

Right now it is all sort of a magical season, the 1,000th win, 21 wins, and a team that actually scores more than 59 points a game. Done with the class, grace, dignity and dedication to game that the lady who took us to that most recent Final Four a couple of years after the game had supposedly "passed her by". Maybe I am just a nostalgic old fool, but I see a lot of Jody in this team and in the fine coach that now occupies her seat.

We don't need to build a new facility after they tear down the Drum....The crowds we get at games will fit in Gregory Gym.

10 years from now we won't have any fans at the games........They'll be dead...Nearly everyone there is 80-85 years old....SMH...We are #6 in the country and tied for first in conference and nobody shows up. Things will really be bad when they move the facility even further from campus.

This game wasn't pretty but we walked away with another win 22-1!!! Brooke and Ariel looked great tonight! That's going to be a dangerous combo over the next couple of years.

At this point in the season, I am concerned about our post play. Imani is going backwards, she doesn't play with any fire. She gets pushed around as if she is a freshman still. Kelsey gave us some OK minutes but she just isn't tough enough. Hosey gave us some good minutes tonight with Bri being out!

OSU was playing good basketball coming into tonight's game, so this was a hot team that we played.

Nah, I just look 80. The younger you are, the older I look. But I do my best to provide fan energy. Is it certain that the facility will not be on or very near campus?

Honestly I think Imani is frustrated because they changed the offense into more of a mid range style instead of a clear it out and let the post work kind of offense. She has looked visibly frustrated for the past couple of games.

The team did a lot of good things tonight, despite Imani not asserting herself offensively early in the game. Coach A said at the half that OSU hits some (3-point) shots that didn't expect them to make; she was right. Despite those things, we still won by 15 points.

I really liked our ball movement, and it seemed as if we are running several plays down the lane with success. Don't believe Brooke hit a 3 point shot tonight, but she hit from just about everywhere else on the floor. You can see Ariel's confidence growing by the minute; her elevation on her jump shot continues to improve.

Hats off to Empress and Ariel for their defense on Martin. She had to work hard for every point.

As a season ticket holder of 12+ years I can attest to that. I've seen several older season ticket holders pass away...not literally in front of me, but heard second hand of their passing and then subsequently, their seats become open, random seats the next year. Sad. They're trying very hard to pump up the attendance, but....it still frustrates me that they get so many people for the mens' games and we're 22-1 (!) and still only 2,600 tonight.

Imani is frustrated because teams are getting into her chest and playing her more physical. Our offense hasn't changed. Our post players have to learn to play with a better base and play through contact. Imani knows she isn't going to win Player of the Year, so let's see how she plays without that motivation. She owes it to her teammates to continue to give her best!

I'm sure it doesn't help that she is getting the 'Griner treatment' to some degree - referees allowing much more physical play by those defending her than they let her get away with on the other end of the floor.

I do agree with this assumption. They are now letting opposing post players get into her body as she is shooting. THAT is a foul, period!!!!! However, Imani is going to have to learn to finish with contact and be more aggressive and assertive while in offensive mode. I would also agree they are not granting her the same "leniency" on the defensive end. She is going to have to find a way to play through this. She is capable~~~~

Sadly no William Tell Overture last night. I did notice that Imani wasn't getting very good post entry passes for most of the night. She also had several good shots that just didn't go in.

Overall our offense "looks" worse than the numbers say it is. Probably helps that Brooke has really become a floor general this year.
