Brad, you are right that we have a bit of an unusual situation with none of the QBs all that established even in the previous system(s), and certainly not proven in the new system. Plus the fact that Shane is an early enrollee who will get spring training, also counts. If he looks better than everybody else, he will (should) play. I was just saying that the chances of that are low, with true freshmen.
On the other hand, we do have a couple of guys with some playing experience to come in as back up if we start Shane and he has a couple of those off-games that true freshmen tend to have (i.e., looking like a deer in the highlights against some defenses thrown at him by a Bill Snyder or a Patterson). Swoopes would gladly back up if asked and he is well-used to coming in cold too. Considering all that, yes, playing Shane if he looks the best in practice, is not out of question or anything. It shouldn't be.
