I am anti-Perrin ever since his disappearing act during the Gilbert Saga.
My guess is that Fenves was none too impressed by that either.

i think perrin's sole purpose was to be the peace maker with the long time donors that patterson alienated.

That whole sordid period of Patterson could have been avoided, by choosing Oliver Luck.

I wonder if he will be considered now, or is even interested anymore.

Luck walked out because he wanted his first official action to be a positive one. Powers was to fire Brown, then bring in Oliver to hire the new coach. Instead, Powers wanted him to fire Brown.

While I think it is a job Luck would want, and would be by far and away the best candidate, he would be faced with replacing both the football coach and baseball coach to start his reign. Not sure he would sign up for that. Also don't believe he ever wants to be in the same census tract with Powers.

That said, you can count on your fingers on one hand the decent candidates and have fingers left over unless you were born with two fingers.

Depending on when the hire is made, Augie may already be gone. Nothing will happen with Charlie until after the T+1 game and depending on the performance of the team in 2016, perhaps not at all. I have not heard, or read what the magic numbers are for football this coming season, but posting another 5-7 or 6-7 record for a third straight losing season won't cut it. Not sure if a 7-6 would either. But at this point, my thought is that Charlie gets another season (2017), but wins and continued recruiting success are critical points.

I think Luck would be a great hire and should have happened 2 years ago. It didn't and look what had to be undone by the current AD following the Patterson fiasco. Who ever it is, get the best person who has the experience at the College, not pro, sports level.

The AD is paid to manage the people under him. Augie has been a great asset that now needs to be retired. The baseball program is a mere shell of what it could (and should) be.

I didn't like the way they got rid of Gus and would like to think that Perrin is man enough just to tell Augie it is time to go instead of coming up with a stupid "excuse".

    Viper,

Gus was given multiple opportunities to make the correct changes and/or bow out gracefully. He refused. The "stupid excuse" was to protect the program from a potential problem that could have gotten the death penalty for the program, and that had nothing to do with recruiting.

Deloss chose the only route possible to maintain a quality program. The style and reason are on Gus and no one else. (OK, one other person, but we won't go there.)

Sabre, Perrin just needs to man up and do what is best for the program.

If Luck is the right guy, Fenves should hire him, and do it now or very soon. We cannot allow the program to slide any further.

The AD at Texas is very well paid because he (or she) is responsible for a financial juggernaut. I don't like the idea of burdening a stand in, Perrin, with Augie-type decisions. If you are going to hire a superstar, don't delay, empower him, and expect him to be able to make the tough decisions. If he cannot do so then you have hired the wrong person.

Still paying over $30/home football game for LHF parking.

    Still no ticket re-sell.

Baseball parking permit went from many years of prime location right in front of park to a long walk across I-35.

Don't let the door hit ya, Perrin. Only thing that changed was Patterson's smug grin turned into Perrin's golly gee smile.

^^^ i am still really disgusted with mike perrin with the SHOCKING manner that he handled to under armour / nike apparel brand negotiations. everyone knows that TEXAS lost a significant amount of money on this deal. now as it currently stands, ohio state now commands the largest nike apparel contract within the collegiate level. i sincerely feel that mike perrin is a decent / intellectual LONGHORN at heart. however,
he really let us down during these very important negotiations....

I want Patterson back if they aren't going to fix the ticket and parking issues...He is the only one with the stones to fire Augie and Strong if they don't produce on the field. If he were here now we would already be searching for a replacement for Augie. Strong would be in a "you better win 9 or 10 and get us rolling in 2016" situation. As it is Augie will be back next year and Charlie will be retained if we win 6 or 7, even if we lose to OU and get blown out once or twice...Hide and watch it....Perrin isn't firing anyone.

Augie has 1 year left on his contract. He's got more wins than any coach in NCAA history, and he can accomplish the 2,000 win milestone----virtually immortality---next season.
Let him coach next year, and he can retire. He's brought us 2 National Championships.
What a black eye on our University to fire the coach with the most wins and approximately 20 wins from immortality.

Would that Augie could reach 2000 next season. But the way this season is ending, he'll be more than 25 away from 2000. And 25 wins in 2017 appear to be quite a reach at this point.

    I think it's well-within-reach....in fact, I'd guarantee it!
If our University wants to embarrass itself by firing Augie, they can do that.
But it would be a national embarrassment that would follow us for years to come.

The players like Augie a lot. Perhaps changing some assistants....esp. our pitching and hitting coaches might help a lot. Our pitching staff, supposedly the strong suit of our team has tanked in a way I've not seen in years!
    Keep Augie.....get back on track...and everyone's happy.

Augie may reach 2,000 wins next season if we put his individual accomplishments above the program, players, and paying fans next season.

And within 3 seasons Mike Martin at FSU will bounce Augie to second place in all-time wins.

Martin is 85 wins behind Augie right now, 5 years younger, and still cranks out 40+ wins every season since joining FSU in 1992.

So much for 2,000 being some immortal record when Mattox will exceed it in the near future.

Augie already accomplished a ton to secure his legacy. No way we should sacrifice another year of our program's health just to let him reach a certain wins milestone that will rank second by 2020.

So we are supposed to renew our season tix and parking and spend our hard earned money on a season we know won't amount to jack while Augie pads his wins. No thanks.

By all means let's fire the coaches Augie hired and let him stay, then hire more coaches, then hire a whole new staff, the year after that, that makes total sense. This is another one of your quality suggestions, that has no chance of ever happening.

The pitching staff over the last several years is the only reason he still is employed at the University of Texas.

Tolerating crappy baseball so a coach can achieve some arbitrary win count is dumb, and not to the standard of Texas baseball. The CWS should be the standard every year at UT.

This will only be true if the next guy fails. If the next guy comes in and rights the ship, the memory will be that Augie should have gotten out several years before.

Somehow we got through letting coach Gus go, he had the most wins in college baseball, at the time, won two national titles and never had a losing season, in 29 years at the helm.

He was and still is a UT icon, that played under Bib Faulk. He also won 22 SWC titles and still holds the record, for most appearances by a coach in the CWS, at seventeen.

He was also a Texas high school coaching legend, winning seven state titles in fourteen years at South San Antonio High School. He took a pay cut to come coach at Texas

The guy that took his place took four years to right the ship, which included a losing season in 1998.

Coming after another losing season, if that is the outcome, only the second in the last 60 years, there won't be any great outcry for long. Sure some media will talk about it, it's what they do. It won't hurt the program, as I keep saying, "Texas Baseball" is bigger than any individual, the things written above should show people that.

I believe somebody said that "winning is mandatory here." That was in reference to the Texas Baseball program. That is true and I will take his word, on that statement.

Coaches come and go, less often at Texas, than most places, but Texas Baseball will remain, after Uncle Billy Disch, Bibb Faulk, Cliff Gustafson, and yes Augie Garrido.

In success and expectations, Texas baseball is in a class of it's own within our big 3 sports programs.

Long before Gus these expectations were set and he ran with them. Besides his first and last season, Gus finished 20+ games over .500 for 27 straight seasons.

Even his first year (1968) finished 12 games over, and his last season (1996) was 15 over.

Making the playoffs was a given...always.

It took Augie 5 seasons to get his bearings, but then from 2002-11 he led the team to 17+ games over .500 for 10 straight seasons.

So where are we the last five years? 8 over, 3 over, 15 over, 3 over, and 6 under.

The type of garbage baseball we've seen 4 of the last 5 seasons at Texas was never remotely seen under Gus, and a far cry from Augie's 10-year surge.

Let's just put it this way...

From 1968-2011 (44 seasons) only 2 Texas teams (Augie's first two) finished below 10 games over .500.

Over the last 5 seasons, 4 Texas teams finished below 10 games over .500.

What Augie is producing now is an insult to the proud tradition of Texas baseball.

We cannot continue to jeopardize our rightful annual place in the postseason so Augie can chase individual records and further tarnish the program.

A lot of past players and coaches busted their backsides to establish our identity of excellence, long before Augie.

It's time to move on NOW...there's no debate to be had if one is aware of the decorated history and ingrain expectations of this program.
