She has my vote. I wouldn't miss a single State of the Union if she was Prez.

 

She would have my vote, and not because she is pretty. (although she clearly got the best genes from the Trump line. Men, here's a free tip: don't wear your hair in the Gordon Gekko style favored by the Trump men. Chicks just don't dig it. You're welcome)

I have always been impressed by Ivanka. Graduating summa cum laude from Wharton, writing books, starting her own business and being a wife and mother
are great achievements. Having a rich dad can get you a lot of things, and she has a privilege that 99% of us do not have, but dad can't buy your grades or your work ethic, or your moral compass.
She is so articulate and poised. Say what you want about Trump, but as we all discussed on a thread long ago, he did something right in raising what appears to be good, successful kids who have stayed out of trouble and adore him.
I find it interesting that none of the Trump kids downplay their privilege, in fact they acknowledge it. That seems to be different than the wealthy children of other politicians. I find that refreshing that they can say, yes, we had it easy, but we want to try to make it easier for everyone. Now, whether that can happen is a totally different story, but I like that they admit they can't understand the average Joe.

I actually think Ivanka would do well in politics--hot or not. And as a woman, I must admit she is very hot. It's too bad Trump couldn't present himself as well as Ivanka.

Ivanka was spectacular - no doubt about it. She's an exceptional communicator, very sharp, very poised, very articulate.

Oh yeah, she's hot too.

 

Mr. Deez, I can only imagine that the Trump wives dig the 'do because either 1) all the money, or 2) they met the guys in the late 80s, when the movie with Gordon Gekko, "Wall Street" made the style fashionable for about 20 minutes!

Hollandtex ... I need a new hair style. Had the same one since high school .... but at 56 it's not looking like it used to ...Any suggestions for a mature man who still doesn't need a combover and is only gray at the temples?

As far as hair goes, I am a simple type. I would look at the style Matt Damon wears in the new Bourne movie as a good start. I think a guy your age would look great in that type of style. I'm not a fan of men having hair that takes them 30 minutes to style, or use lots of hair products. Using a little product is fine, but the Trump men use way too much, and their hair is too long. Shorter hair, less greasy type of product is what you are looking for. George Clooney has a good cut, last I saw.
I know lots of men's magazines are showing the tight on the sides, high in the middle pompadour right now, but, in my opinion that is a younger look, and there is a very fine line of when it looks stupid. (most of the time)
That is just my 2 cents, but I don't know of many of my friends who like a man with greasy, overdone hair.

I think 1) is the key. If you have money, nobody cares how bad your hair is. You can be a fat, hairy dude with a bad comb-over, and you'll have chicks all over you. For what it's worth, I've never known a poor guy who had the Gordon Gekko look. lol There's an inherent self-assurance that goes with such a look, and poor guys just don't have it.

LOL. I was only about ten years old when that movie came out, so I never went with that look. About the weirdest look I ever had was in the early 2000s, when I had the slightly overgrown wavy look with trimmed sideburns and the occasional goatee - similar to what a lot of other dudes were doing at the time. Then I got a job practicing law, and I returned to having the "conventional man's haircut" and stayed clean shaven. In other words, I started looking more like a regular adult with a job and less like a wannabe hipster.

 

Okay, so I watched it because you said she was hot....

I will say that it was really a brilliant speech overall, in content, delivery, pace, etc. She can really speak well. Not just pretty.

Also, that is EXACTLY the endorsement or vouching that Trump needs--it goes to the major weak points in his candidacy, which are people's concern that, perhaps, he is 1. not a nice person, 2. a racist, 3. not a good family man, with the two divorces, 4. a frivolous person, a TV guy, not a serious person in the political sense.

With those concerns, this speech was very effective, to personalize Trump, make him likable, demonstrate by words and res ipsa loquitur that he is a family man, to give examples of helping strangers, hiring minorities, paying women, etc., and to emphasize his tangible productivity ("in the building trade, you can't call yourself a builder unless you can point to a building"). He needs to have her speak as often as possible.

Oh, yes, you were also right about how beautiful she is--even when you google around and see pictures with no makeup, she is a pretty woman.

Could be that she had $1000 of tailoring done to that $138 dress before taking the stage. (Maybe the "clothes make the man," but it's the woman who makes the clothes shine.)

 

He's a 70 year old white dude who was born with a trust fund. To top it off, he has the attitude of a true blue New Yorker/Manhattanite born in Queens which magnifies it all. That "whadayaknow" smirk of his is classic New Yorker looking out the window of a cab you just hailed but he jumped in...like you want to punch in the face. The worst part of living in NYC were New Yorkers.

Giuliani, once "America's Mayor," is a politician...hence he played likability. Trump, I can tell you, is the type of native New Yorker you actually meet up there.

As annoying and offensive as someone with that background can be, especially to the PC/millennial crowd today, it doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't fundamentally sound character traits behind these categories of people. As far as scions from rich families go, Trump came from a relatively "blue collar" background. His father was a developer of housing units in the boroughs, so he was exposed to middle class working men. You can't say the same for most of the other rich heirs/heiresses in New York City.

I don't get the birther thing, and I don't get the John McCain wasn't a war hero thing...but he was a guy that a whole bunch of contestants and celebrities of diverse backgrounds on his show almost universally respected (pre-campaign). And when I watched the Apprentice (a reality show I know) he seemed like a tough/fair/smart boss that also outside of making money genuinely valued his business helping people.

I'll say it again, and Trump himself is just as guilty of this, today we demonize people different than us. If you don't have my background or my worldview, you must be against me and you must be morally corrupt.

You do realize, I hope, that I was listing what I thought were Trump's most likely weak spots in a general election? Do you agree that those are the perceptions he should work on? Do you agree that Ivanka's speech was very well-written to address those topics?

 

VY, of course I agree on the perceptions and Ivanka's speech 100%.

I was lamenting why since he's white, rich, 3x married, and a chauvinist, etc. that our society unfairly and preemptively labels you a racist, not a family man, and not compassionate when in reality, he's just a New Yorker. Just like if you have guns and go to church...you're not racist, or a psychopathic bloodlusted murderer. You could just be a Texan.

To this Texan, I can tell you New Yorkers are really irritating, but they are also good, hardworking, proud Americans. I guess living all over the country and the world, going to grad school up north (GI Bill), you see the true essence of people different then you and learn to look past the superficial traits that today we satirize.

It's really too bad Ivanka is not running for President. She certainly sounds more intelligent than her old man. And she is rather nice to look at.
