Buechele might be the guy

Honestly, simulated practice against your own defense is much different than game speed against an aggressive, talented defense like ND.

Ask TS, who looked competent in practice, how fast his head was spinning at ND.

CS said the other day he doesn't allow Shane to take any hits. Another reason to attack green QB's is to see how they respond after being dumped at full speed.

    Valid points.

Football is a lot of adjectives but emotion, attitude and determination are HUGE factors week in-and-out.

I remember ball in HS - the pretty mediocre team I started for played an undefeated rival team the local newspapers deemed something like: the best team from the city in years. We were DETERMINED to upset them... it was close, but we did!

The coaches and the leaders of the Horns need to be very demonstrative and vocal in fall camp about ND and especially EVERY DAY the week leading up to this game.

Remind the team over and over of the goal to BEAT ND!!
They embarrassed us - kicked our *** last fall on national TV
We did not play our best football.
    Where is your pride?
Do you want them to come to our house and do that again?

HELL NO, WE ARE TEXAS, etc., etc. :hookem:

That's a good point. He also had Blalock on the line, a future NFL starter. But I like what Buechele will have at his disposal. Those two pile drivers are something special and they differ from Charles in that they may be able to control the game. Charles was not an every down back. And they are not rookies... Couple that with the stable of talent in the receiver corps and we may have what we need -- at least for the first few games until Buechele gets acclimated with the speed of the college game.

Some guys catch on faster than others. If I am not mistaken, until Colt was hurt on that redundant QB sneak against KSU his RS freshman year, there was serious talk of his attending the Heisman ceremony. My point is that if Buechele has the demeanor and skill set that we hope, he could come up to speed and reasonable proficiency fairly quickly. And until he does, I would ride # 25 & # 33, with a few surprises to Burt, Johnson and Duvernay mixed in...

Colt had better personnel his first two years. He had basically lunchpail guys at RB when the team was actually making a run. It's actually pretty remarkable to me and says a lot about Colt that he did what he did in '08 and '09 (although '09 was a struggle a lot of the time) considering what he had to work with on offense. By that time, the recruiting pipeline had started to dry up, but it was masked by Colt and some of the other upperclassmen, so we didn't notice it until it slammed us in 2010.

Lifted this from another thread by Godz40 about Shane (BON):

    Nothing He Can't Do"
The Summer of Shane is about to come to an end with the start of fall camp.

During the spring, Strong referred to Buechele as a baller, saying that other players already recognize that ability in him. It’s also an ability extends past the football field.

“Last night me and Bluiett was talking about it and Bluiett, every time I walk in the game room and see him and Bluiett there they're shooting pool and Bluiett is like, ‘There’s nothing he can’t do,’” Strong said.

    Ping pong. Basketball. Golf.

While discerning where the talent begins and the work ethic ends is difficult, the end result is that Buechele is baller at it. The talent helps breed belief. The work ethic bleeds into the how the rest of the team approaches football.

“Just like his overall attitude, within the whole team it's seepin', seepin', seepin',” Strong said.

Listed rather generously at 6’1 and 191 pounds, Buechele is a player the coaches would have to manage in the running game — the true freshman still has to add strength in the weight room.

It’s no longer breaking news that Buechele is a gym rat. Neither is the description by his head coach about what he does well, but Strong does make an important point about the implications of all those things.

“When you look at him on the field he just puts the ball in the right place and he understands the offense, but he's going to study the game and he does a really good job of setting the game and he can always get better. You can always improve.”

The thing with Buechele is that he has the right mix of attributes to be the guy for Texas.

All signs point in that direction until they don’t.

Definitely have to keep him healthy. Please God not another David Ash situation. As bad as the luck with injuries has been the last few years it's gotta turn around and be on our side sometime soon.

TS never not looked competent in practice. That's his comfort zone. Some players are good practice players. But when it's game day is what matters. He seemed to not be able to focus in front of a large crowd and the fear the other team is coming after him made him make bad decisions. He guessed at the zone read offense and was wrong most of the time. Someone here believed that's because he struggled with his reads, he was told in the play calling when to keep it or hand it off. Not sure but TS was horrible at the zone read.

I will be very surprised if I do not see Bue run out on the field to start vs ND.

Buechele and Ehlinger at the Under The Lights event last night at DKR.
The future of the Texas QB position might be very bright.
