Trent Domingue — apparently he is eligible to play this year. Another big get for Charlie’s 2016 class.
Wow. Huge hole gets filled. A kick always seems to decide 1 or 2 games a year. Glad to see we have a proven commodity now.
Damn. That will give @Brad Austin one less thing to harp on. Great news! Edit: Great news about getting an experienced kicker, not about Brad having less things to harp on.
News reporting the Punters for Nebraska and Michigan State were killed, and a third punter from LSU was seriously injured in a car accident in Wisconsin. Correction: LSU punter treated for burns on his legs and other injuries then released. Link: http://www.nola.com/articles/18997828/lsu_pk_colby_delahoussaye_inju.amp
Article at TexasSports.com texassports.com/news/2016/7/24/domingue-joins-texas-football-as-graduate-transfer Former LSU placekicker and 2015 Lou Groza Award (nation's top kicker) semifinalist Trent Domingue (doh-MAIN) has signed a financial aid agreement to join the Texas football program as a graduate transfer, Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong confirmed on Sunday. "I've always known that Texas has been a pretty storied program, both academically and athletically," Domingue said. "I knew coach Brick (Haley) from LSU, and he's a big reason why I had interest in Texas initially. I'm really excited to get there and start training and getting to know everyone. Coach Strong is great and seems like a players coach. I think it will be an awesome time playing for him."
Well...we have a seasoned kicker, and one of the top in college football. I "highly concerned" feeling about the kicking game has dissipated a lot the last few hours.
We may just get to 8 wins this year. At least I'm glad to see that Strong is serious about keeping his job and understands the urgency. Not having a good place kicker is a guaranteed loss or two every season. Now we can hopefully avoid those close losses.
Maybe some of you have not heard that the other LSU kicker was injured in a car wreck and the two other kickers were killed. The Nebraska kicker and former Michigan State kicker did not survive.
Feels like some things are coming together pretty nicely. We will see what the results on the field are, but the pieces necessary for success are definitely beginning to gather in Austin.
******* Charlie Strong. He was never going to find a kicker. He was going to cost of 5 wins this season by overlooking this position. Complete incompetence. But again, he just can't help but fall in **** and come up smelling like roses. I guess at some point we'll have to start giving him some credit for knowing what he is a doing. (Some people, losing their minds... over a ******* kicker.)
Nice! Major need filled. People laugh, but this kicker could mean the difference in as many as 4 games. My nightmare was needing a 41 yard field goal with 2 seconds left for a win against OU and seeing it shanked left. Followed by the OU band playing boomer sooner 104 times while I drink warm beer and eat a sausage plate at Hans Mueller.
Kicker was the last aspect holding me back from strong belief in a turnaround season. Sure there are other concerns like DL, but our raw talent should be able to manage. Now that CS locked down this crucial spot, I'm ready to roll with positive energy.
He was pretty good but certainly not automatic............how he was a Lou Groza semi-finalst I'll never know as he wasn't even All-SEC. Career at LSU only 15-21 (only 3-5 from 40+)....better than what we had but not nails.
