SMU made their bed by being the cheatingest program in the history of college FB. Now they can lie in it. No way should they be allowed to join the B12 and I hope they're never relevant again.

    Pincher,

SMU was never the "cheatingest program" in the SWC, much less the country. They may have been the most arrogant about their issues. Certainly, they were the first to buy a house for a kid's mother. I agree that they deserved what they got.

That said, SMU has done a remarkable job of elevating its academic standing. Last I looked, only Rice and Texas were ahead of SMU among Texas schools on the USNWR list. If fact, they were ranked in the 50s on a system where #50 are lower is "Tier 1".
They are well ahead academically of the other wanabes being mentioned.

Now, I shall relay to you what I tell all my SMU friends - Drive into that little oval entrance at SMU and look at the buildings:

    Moody Coliseum
    Fondren Library
    Edwin Cox School of Business
    Robert Dedman School of Law
    Dedman School of Humanities
Two more buildings named for Dedman and his wife
    Meadows School of Arts

What do all those people have in common? Either they attended The University of Texas OR they sent their children to The University of Texas OR both. If it wasn't for The University of Texas, SMU would be meeting in tents. :coolnana:

I don't want SMU in any conference we are a part of. I'd like to get rid of Baylor too.

It is interesting to look at the rise of both of those programs. Both had new coaches that took the football program from the cellar to national prominence. Both had a run of about 6-7 seasons and were in the NC discussions each year. Then, the wheels came off, and there was all the national negative exposure. SMU never fully recovered, but did have a few good seasons, and we'll see how Baylor fares going forward.

My only problem with SMU would be seeing Craig James (and those 7 hookers) and Eric Dickerson on the sidelines with their team.

Aside from those worms, SMU cleaned house with Forrest Gregg and June Jones and deserve a reset. At least they aren't USC. And no one was raped or killed by what they did. They've paid their debt. I'd put SMU waaaaaaaay down the list of likely to cheat programs now.

    blon,

It's going to take some balls in Bellmont to keep Craig "I'm the star, look at me, where's the TV camera" James and Dickerson away. Remember that ESPN paraded them up and down the sideline when SMU appeared in its first bowl game post death penalty. The white wash kings will try that again if they come to Memorial Stadium as a member of the Big XII. If anyone in our administration has a clue, has any dignity, they will will tell ABC that the only way either of those pieces of **** gets into Memorial Stadium is to buy a ticket and sit in that seat.

If the Aggies could keep the Texas Cowboys and the Silver Spurs off Kyle Field, surely we can keep that circus off the sideline at Memorial Stadium.

I might relent if the Silver Spurs would allow either or both of them to sit on one of Bevo's horns.

    Sabre, agree 100%.

Every time ESPN shows Pony Excess, or The Best that Never Was (Marcus Dupree, who also had verballed to UT), I have a feeling of sympathy, not for James, Dickerson, or Dupree --- but for those scores of 2nd and 3rd string non-glamour position players, who would never sniff the NFL, getting up at 5 am every school day morning to work out, go to class, then dress out in pads and bust their asses in 100 deg temps against a blocking sled, so .... so James, and Dickerson, and Dupree could go on to millions. In DickerJames' case where the entire university depending on football revenue for other sports take it up the ***.

And I don't buy the '18-year olds don't know any better' crap.

    Earl Campbell did.

    Ricky Williams, VY did.

    Blon,

The 30 on 30 series is a whitewash coverup. I ask 3 or 4 questions of people who watched the Dupree show. Seems most of the characters were there, but the truth was missing. ESPN knew the truth would result in massive lawsuits and the alienation of a section of our society.

Dupree wanted to come to Texas, but "family issues" dictated otherwise.

While he was not a minority, Ed Cunningham and his family was another one who made a a similar decision to Earl, et al. There are numbers of our players all of whom did the same - annuities, insurance policies, airplane tickets for starters. We had a kid thrown out of his home at 17 for not taking the Aggies money. The father of 5 fired from his job when his son changed his commitment - not A&M, they wouldn't pull that crap, and neither would Barry.

SMU doesn't have any more to offer the conference than Houston, Rice, or any other II-tier school.....The Big 12 crapped and fell back in it when re-alignment started a few years ago. Its too late now to do anything unless they can pull in ND ( issue since all other sports are in the ACC ) or get BYU to change their Sunday game policy ( Can't see the Mormons allowing that ).....thats the only way the conference can improve their $$$$$ situation. Only thing the schools willing to come can add is recruiting grounds expansion and TV markets ( Florida schools, Memphis, UConn, etc. )

Explain to me the Sunday game policy they have and why they would have to change it? I very seldom see any college sports on Sundays. Baseball can be moved to Thursday thru Saturday, basketball games can be played on Saturdays.....explain your logic because I am having trouble here......

    Apples,

Why should everyone break ranks to get in step with the Mormons? Sunday football is not going to happen for them, so I don't see that as an issue. Do they have a baseball team? Sunday play is not a reason to keep them out, but there are plenty more. Hope Boren toes the line on this one.

Theory is Sunday play for baseball takes an extra classroom day (Wednesday) away. I think we know reality so that isn't a real excuse.

The real answer is BYU (like all the other "candidates") would add nothing to the Big XII. The way out for the Big XII is a merger with the ACC with each conference only bringing 7 teams (and ND would have to be included for football to be included for all other sports). The "left-out" schools from both conferences could forma a block with the Houston's and others for the 5th Power 5 Conference.

The best for Texas is to join either the PAC-12 or B1G. The academic types in Austin would approve of either (no use even considering the $EC for that reason alone), but B1G football is not compatible to Texas HS football - see Texas' last two seasons as proof of what happens).
