Moondog, Yes, they do fit well together, but neither fits in the Big XII. WVU was an Oliver Luck deal, which Powers totally humped the puppy on "phase 2".
Sorry, Dog, ECU is to Carolina as UTEP is to Texas - middle of nowhere and nobody cares. Only difference is UTEP has that storied basketball championship. Academically, ECU is sixth best in the state and maybe seventh or eighth. (UNC, Duke, Wake, Davidson, NCSU)
I think the fact that they're giving themselves about a month to reveal who's joining the conference shows that they've already made progress with multiple schools giving commitments to join. My guess is UH and Memphis if the cutoff was today. BYU seems to be holding out hope that we'd allow a member who only adds football. I think Cincy hasn't even made a pitch.
Viper, Who in Austin is smart enough to "pull the pin"? We have NO leadership! What's worse is the leadership or lack thereof in Las Colinas. I have just become a HUGE Iowa State fan. Finally someone in the Big XII with some balls.
McRaven was the last hope; and now indications are that the AD search will be in 2017 which means no new AD until 2018. Perrin is a nice guy, but in trying not to make waves, his Department has created a tidal wave.
Colorado - No! If you want some of the Colorado and Near West TV market go with Air Force or CoState? Pair them with BYU if you like them as a Big 12 member.
Wow, if true, this conference just got even SHITTIER. I did not think it possible. Why? WHY rush into this NOW? Especially when these are the only schools on the menu. Its great to get BYU but those other three schools would stand their holding their dicks in their hands for as long as we make them. Stupid, arbitrary move. I miss DeLoss Dodds.
In 4 years we'll be right back where we were in 96', problem is we probably won't be able to jettison the excess baggage this time and form a better conference.
Could be just blowing smoke but they do say where it's smoke it could be fire I hope it's just smoke though prolly won't even matter we will most likely bolt when the tv deal is up
A one loss SEC team will still get in. A one loss B1G will still get in. A one loss Pac, probably. A one loss ACC, probably. A one loss Big XII?
Texas and ou will have a chance with one loss. The rest of the conference no (already has been proven with TCU). That is the fallacy of the "Power 5" as the bottom half to two thirds of all of the conferences suck equally. That is where any Big XII expansion team will reside for the foreseeable future.
How is it that everyone sees that there are no teams out there who add any value to the Big XII except for the Big XII? If they (the Big XII) say that these teams add value, then it is clearly a money grab for certain schools in the Big XII and not necessarily the Big XII itself. This league is showing everyone just how ridiculous it is and can't possibly believe that anyone is buying the party line. Worse than politicians...
Military, I hate to be an I told you so, but this is why I refer to them as the Las Colinas Cretin Corp. I'm sure that Bowelsby doesn't own a pair of boots because he wouldn't have sense enough to pour piss out of them if he did.
^ THIS! What I hear is "expansion is inevitable." What does that mean? Does it mean that it is inevitable that the Big 12 will do something incredibly dumb?
A source we consider to have intimate knowledge of the expansion discussion tells us the Big 12 will most definitely expand by two and "it's not unlikely that it could be four." Speculation as to which teams would join the new Big 12 runs rampant, but our source tells us the two front-runners are Cincinnati and Houston. If the conference were to expand by four , BYU would be the likely third selection and Memphis is being discussed as the fourth team. BYU is an attractive candidate and would be in the likely first two schools selected, but according to our source, football on Sundays and the recent rape allegations are playing into the cards. Just a note - we were told expansion teams have already been decided but things are on "lockdown mode" until the official release. [HS] --- Timing is everything! Oh, boy, if we can grab these four gems before the other major confs, the Beg 12 will have pulled off quite a coop. WAHHOO!!!
I don't mind Cincy and UH. From a football standpoint, they're about as good as middle-of-the-road Power-5 teams.
