So the series starts today with OSU, after whatever you want to call the reason for not playings last night. The game was "threatened out," by possible bad weather, that never came.

This means a double header today starting at 2:30 pm. Both teams come into the game tied for third place in the conference at 9-6. The big difference is that OSU is 25-15 on the season and Texas is 20-21. OSU has crept back into the polls, has a RPI of 24, while Texas stands at 108.

Texas has to win the series, to start changing these numbers, if they are to have a chance to qualify for a regional, with an at large bid.

OSU has done it more with pitching this season, instead of their usual slugging type teams. They have been scoring more runs lately and do have a top Big 12 hitter, in Donnie Walton.

Both games on LHN and the audio on texassports.com.

    Line-ups on the way.

Get after 'em, Boys. For both games, I hope you type long posts when Texas is batting and very short ones on the alternating, NB.

Morgan Cooper gets the start, the sophomore right hander. He is supposed to healthy, but I still don't think he is back to what he was, before the surgery. He can give about five innings usually, but not much more. Hopefully he can have a quality start, in a doubleheader that would really help.

J.R. Davis, the OSU second baseman leads off, batting right handed.
Wind not really a factor at the moment, on a nice day in Austin.
He K's swinging on a foul tip, for one away.

The right fielder is Corey Hassel, batting righty, with an out.
Our first full count and he K's swinging, on a cutting fast ball, two down.

Donnie Walton is the shortstop, batting lefty, the fifth leading hitter in the Big 12, at .365.
He also K's, this one looking, on a slow change, side down in order.

Cooper K's the side and Texas comes top bat.

OSU will have Thomas Hatch on the mound, a big right hander, with an era of 1.72, a record of 3-1. He shut out TCU in his last start.

Travis Jones leads off for Texas, batting righty, as the DH.
Grounded up the middle for a lead single.

Third baseman is Kody Clemens, batting lefty, with a man on.
He squares and and the 1-3 sac bunt is good, runner to second and one out.

Tres Barrera, the catcher, bats righty, man on second, one away.
A grounder deep in the hole, on the left side and the shortstop has it on a dive, goes to third, but late, an infield hit will put two aboard.

Runners on the corners, with an out for Kacy Clemens, batting lefty.
    Infield at double play depth.
And they get the grounder and it goes 6-4-3, side retired.

Texas threatens, but nothing across, so 0-0, after one.

A foul fly to left and Rand has it, one away, the first ball put in play by OSU.

Righty hitter is Ryan Sluder, the centerfieler, one on and one down.
A high pop on the right side and McKenzie drifts back and has it, two away.

First baseman is Dustin Williams, batting lefty, with one on and now two gone.
A little liner to left center and it drops, for a hit, to put two aboard, first hit for OSU.

Runners on the corners, two down, for the left fielder, Jon Littel, batting righty.
He swings and misses a slow change, the K will end the inning.

OSU threatens, but doesn't score, bottom of the second and no runs to talk about.

Cooper will toe the rubber in the third, for the Horns.

A one hopper to third is a 5-3 second out.

Hassel bats righty, with two down.
Hassel is no hassle, he K's swinging on a heater, the side down in order again.

He is hit on the left shoulder by a pitch, the HBP is a runner.

Jones will bring the top of the order back again, he bats righty, with a man on, with an out.
A full count reached and the runner goes and a grounder to third is a 5-3 out, for two away, runner to second.

Kody Clemens will bat lefty, with a man on second and two down.
A hit could give the Horns the lead.
He swings through a fast ball, the K will end the inning.

    Three full and 0-0.

He pops up on the left side of the infield, two gone.

Sluder bats righty, with a man on and two outs.

Bottom of four and it's all 0's, so far.

Cooper comes out again and to the mound, as the OSU fifth begins.

They lead off with Williams, batting left handed.
He walks, for a lead runner.

Littell bats righty, with a man on.
He bunts and Cooper can't pick it up, the E-1, will put two on.
    Littell creidited with a sacrifice.

Bottom of the order is Theroux, batting righty, two on.
He squares and takes two strikes.
He squares again and gets it down, the 3-4 is a sac, runners move up.

Top of the order is Davis, two on and one away.
Infield stays back, a little surprising.
A ground ball to second, the 4-3 is two away, run scores.

    OSU leads 1-0.

Righty hitter is Hassel batting righty, two outs and a man on third.
He swings through a fast ball, the K will retire the side.

OSU takes the lead on an unearned run without a hit, the error on Cooper is the big play. Halfway through game one and OSU leads 1-0.

Looks like we got us here a pitchers duel... least until okie lite got worked in that run. Horn bats need to come alive!

Hatch pitches the Horn fifth, with the lead.

Patrick Mathis leads off batting lefty, for the Horns.
Slow roller to third and charged by the third baseman, a strong throw and it's a 5-3 first out.

Righty hitting Gurwitz is up, with an out.
He grounds the first pitch to third and the 5-3 again is two away.

Rand bats righty, with two gone.
A fly ball to right and the side down in order again.

Five played and OSU leads 1-0.

Cooper will come back out once more in the sixth, could be his last, depending on how the inning goes, as the pitch count rises.

OSU leads off with Walton, batting left handed.
Another fly ball to left by him and it's one away.

Lefty hitter is Benge, with an out.
He has walked twice in the game.

Skip out and he is probably asking how much is left in the tank.
A liner to center and misjudged it, but was able to recover and make the catch, two gone.

Simpson bats lefty, as the DH, with two outs.
A soft liner will fall in center, for the second hit of the game for OSU and a runner.

Batting right handed is Sluder, one on and two retired.
He K's on a pitch in the dirt and the 2-3 putout will end the inning.

Bottom of the sixth and OSU ahead, 1-0.

Hatch keeps going in the sixth and he has now had like 22 inning or so of consecutive shutout innings pitched.

The Horns attempt to break that streak, with the bottom of the order leading off, in McKenzie, batting righty.
A high fly to center is one away.

Top of the order is Jones, batting righty, with an out.
He has one of the two Texas hits, a single in the first.
He grounds another single through the right side, for a runner.

Kody Clemens bats lefty, with a man on and one out.
He grounds to short and the 6-4-3 double play will snuff out the inning.

Six played now and OSU still leading 1-0.

Eric Dunbar, a freshman righty, will come in to pitch the seventh. Cooper gave a quality start, but will leave behind in the game.

OSU leads off with Williams, batting lefty.
He K's looking, on a tight slider, one down.

Littell bats righty, with an out.
A comebacker and the 1-3 put out is two away.

Bottom of the order is Theroux, two outs and he bats righty.
He takes a fast ball on the outside corner and the K will retire the side in order.

Stretch time in Austin, in the first of two, OSU leads 1-0.

Hatch back to the bump once more, as he keeps rolling along.

The Horns lead off with Barrera, batting righty.
He may need a long ball, to break the scoreless string by Hatch.
    Something is needed soon.
He takes a fast ball, on the outside corner, the K is one away.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty, with an out.
Another foul fly by the stands in left and again the left fielder catches it, as he goes into the stands. He is down and back up, the trainer out, but he is ok.

Two outs for Baker, batting righty.
A grounder to third and the 5-3 out means the Horns down in order for the third striaght inning.

Seven innings gone and OSU leads 1-0.

Dunbar returns for the eighth inning, for the Horns.

OSU leads off with Davis, batting righty, at the top of the order.
A liner to right falls by the line, Mathis fields and pegs to second and Davis is out 9-6, as he went for the double, nice throw, one down.

Hassel bats righty, with an out.
He grounds sharply behind the bag at first, but Clemens has it and the 3U is two gone.

Walton bats lefty, with two outs.
He is hitless on the day, but a good hitter.
On cue he lines a high fast ball to left, for a single and a runner.

Skip comes out and a change is made.

For the first time in a long time, the new pitcher is veteran lefty, Josh Sawyer. He has battled arm problems all season, having only pitched 5.1 innings all year. Would be a big boost, if he is healthy again.

He faces lefty hitting Benge, with a man on and two outs.
A ground ball gets by Baker, who was shaded up the middle, the single puts two on.

Simpson bats lefty, with two on and two outs.
He swings through the high fast ball, the K will end the inning.

Bottom of the eigthth and OSU still leads 1-0.

It's still Hatch out on the hill, for OSU, in the Horn eighth.

Texas leads off with Mathis, batting lefty.
He shoots a grounder up the middle for a hit, a lead runner.

Gurwitz up batting righty, a man on.
He will probably bunt and he does, the sac goes 1-3, runner to second. For only the third time today, a runner in scoring position for the Horns.

Rand bats righty, man on second, one out.
He grounds up the middle, but the second baseman is there and the 4-3 is two away, runner to third.

Pinch hitter is Bret Boswell, batting lefty, with a man on third and two away.
Needless to say, a big at bat for the Horns.
He K's on the change up and that retires the side.

Texas with a threat, but nothing more, so OSU leads 1-0, after eight in the books.

  24. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Sawyer will pitch the ninth, so hopefully his arm is feeling better. Boswell will go into the game and play third.

Sluder will lead off for the Cowboys, batting righty.
He bunts and Sawyer fields and throws and he is ruled safe, problem is he never touched first, so he should be out. Augie out to argue, don't know if that is the issue, but he clearly missed first base, so the force should have been good for the out, but an infield hit.

Williams bats lefty, with a man on.
He pops up the bunt to Sawyer, for a 1U first out.

Skip out and he makes another pitching change.

  25. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Blake Wellman, another freshman righty, comes in to pitch for Texas.

He faces Littell, with a man on and one out, batting righty.
Runner goes, but the pitch hit the knob of the bat, now an arguement about this, saying the pitch hit him, but it hit the knob of the bat, ruled that way.
Runner goes and he is nailed by the Barrera throw at second, the play goes 2-6, two down.
A liner to right is a single and a two out runner.

Theroux bats righty, with a man on and two down.
He is hit by a curve ball, to put two on.

Skip back out and another change is made.

  26. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Another veteran lefty is Travis Duke, coming in to try and get a hitter out and keep it a one run game.

He faces the top of the order in Davis, batting righty, with two on and two outs.
He drove in the only run of the game so far, on a ground ball to second, in the fifth.
A pinch runner is McCain, at second base.
A ground ball to first and it goes by Clemens and then by Mathis in right field. Should be two errors on the play, but they call it a hit, no way, even Moreland said so. They do call the error on Mathis, E-9. Two runs score on the play.

    OSU leads 3-0.

Hassel bats righty with one on and two away.
He flies to right, side down.

Two runs score for OSU and they lead now 3-0, bottom of the ninth.

Hatch tries to close out the game, in the ninth and get the win.

Jones leads off for Texas, batting righty.
He bunts on the left side and Hatch fields, but no throw, an infield hit.

One on for Kody Clemens, batting lefty, with a man on.
A full count and a big pitch here.
He swings at a pitch a foot outside, that gets away, runner to second on the K, one down. They threw to first, but Clemens was already out, base occupied, on the K is automatic. A fairly close play on Jones at second.

Man on second and one down for righty hitter Barrera.
A passed ball and the runner to third.
A ground ball to short and Jones doesn't go, the infield back, don't know what he was thinking there, should have scored, two outs on the 6-3. Wonder if Nicholson held him.
    Hatch says thank you.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty, man on third and two outs.
He tries to keep the game alive.
He walks and that puts two on.
Kennedy comes in to run for Clemens

Coach out and this is tough, Hatch throwing a shutout, but OSU has a top notch closer, the tying run is coming up.
    He leaves Hatch in.

Baker bats righty, with two on and two outs.
He does represent the tying run.
This will be Hatch's last batter either way.
A full count and Kenned will be running now.
A comebacker and the 1-3 will end the game.

OSU takes game 1 by a score of 3-0. Tough game.

Hatch shuts out Texas and even that shouldn't have happened, for some unknown reason Jones didn't score from third, on a ground ball to short, with the infield back, not even looking to prevent him from scoring.

Cooper pitched well, but his own error allowed the only run to score, to the ninth. Then OSU plates two more on Horn misplays, despite the ground ball being called a hit. I can guarantee you that Kacy would tell you that he should have had that ball, then Mathis boots it and two runs score.

Texas had some chances to score, the best chance in the first, with runners on the corners, one out, but a double play grounder killed that opportunity.

Had a couple of two out chances with a runner on second, but no dice.

Then the ninth, where they didn't score.

So the game could have been different, but that is the story of the season so far, close, but no cigar.

Game two starts in about 40 minutes or so, be back for the nightcap, that is a must win now.

Doesn't matter...Tech is spanking TCU, so we wouldn't be able to catch them anyway. Its for the best...We need this season to end as soon as possible.
