The second game of the series is now a pivotal game for the Horns. They lost last with their ace on the mound against statistically, was Nebraska'a worst starter of the series. Sinclair certainly didn't look the part, as he held Texas to only two hits in 7 and 2/3 innings of work. Texas had one other hit in the ninth.

Today you have Clemens on the mound for Texas, who was moved up to today, so he wouldn't have to bat against the left handed ace for the Huskers. That would be senior left hander, Kyle Kubat.

That means you have Nebraska's ace, who is 4-0 and has 1.60 earned run average, going against Clemens, who is still trying to lock down a spot in the weekend rotation. Texas needs the bats to be more consistent, as with the new ball you can't expect the Horn's pitching staff to be as effective as last season. Of course it would be hard to be more effective than the Horn's pitching was most of last season and then it got even better in post season play. The new ball era means you better score some runs and it's even more crucial in these weekend games, against the better team. The series is on the line today and Texas needs some offense or it could lose it.

The game is on the Big 10 Network today and the audio stream is

Lineups are next and first pitch as 2:05.

The senior left hander, Kyle Kubat, is the ace of the Husker staff and starts the game today. The sun is shining, but it's a cool and blustery day with the wind blowing out to left.

Ben Johnson, who's starting to slump a bit, after the torrid start, will lead off for the Horns batting right handed.
A ground ball to third is a 5-3 first out.

Hinojosa bats righty with one down.
He swings and foul tips into the catcher's mitt for two away on the K.

Shaw will bat lefty with two gone.
He swings and misses and the side goes down in order.

Texas out quietly and Nebraska will come to bat.

Kacy Clemens, in a big start today for the Horns and needs a good outing to not only keep Texas in the game, but also to save the bullpen, with another game tomorrow.

Ryan Boldt, the Husker center fielder, will lead off against him, from the left side.
A chopper up the middle and Hinojosa has it and his throw tails away from the bag for an E-6.

The second baseman is Jake Schleppeback, from the right side with one on.
A ground ball to third goes for a 5-3 force and one away.

Headley, the third baseman will bat lefty with one on and one down.
He lines one up the middle and Marlow dives and makes the backhanded catch for two away on the defensive gem.

Tanner Lubach, the catcher bats righty, with one on and two gone.
A liner to center to Gurwitz ends the inning.

One played and nothing across for either side.

The lanky lefty Kubat is out again as the second will begin.

Barrera, at first base today, will lead off for Texas, batting right handed.
A hard hit ground goes by a diving third baseman and into left for a lead single.

Marlow bats lefty with one on.
He squares and lays down the 1-3 sac for one away, as the runner is moved to second.

Cantu, the Horn catcher, bats righty with one on and one down.
He sends a long drive toward the right field line and the right fielder dives and makes the catch to save a double and a run.

Two down for Boswell, batting lefty with one on.
Barrera should have tagged and went to third on the diving catch.
Boswell swings and misses a big change to end the frame on the K.

Bottom of two and still no runs.

Clemens will return to the hill in the Husker second.

The DH is Ben Miller, a big lefty hitter and he leads off the inning.
He lines a banana ball to left center that lands on a hop for a lead single.

Another lefty hitter is Austin Darby, the right fielder, with one on.
A sky fly to right center is caught by Gurwitz for one away.

Scott Schrieber, plays first and bats righty, with one on and one down.
A slow chop to third and Boswell goes to second for a 5-3 force and two gone.

Elija Dilday, bats from the left side and play left field.
He hits with one on and two outs.
He lines a single to right center to put runners on the corners.

So Dave Placzek, the shortstop, will bat with runners on the corners and two down.
The righty nine hole hitter is the man to get to end this threat.
A one hop liner is backhanded in the hole by Hinojosa and he makes a strong and accurate throw to first for a 6-3 sparkling play to end the scoring threat.

Two gone and still nada to report on the scoreboard.

Kubat reports for his third inning of work for Nebraska.

Joe Baker is the Horn DH, and the freshman bats from the right side.
He joins the K crowd swinging for one away.

Gurwitz bats righty in the nine hole for the Horns with one down.
He squibs one in front of the plate and the catcher makes the 2-3 second out.

Johnson brings the top of the order back, with two gone, batting righty.
He grounds a single to left through the hole for his first hit of the series.
It's time to get the running game going with two outs, in my judgement.

Hinojosa bats righty with two outs and one on.
Multiple throws go to first to hold Ben close.
A fly to center will retire the side.

Bottom of three and it looks like the game last night, with no runs scored so far.

  10. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Clemens back to the bump for Texas in the Nebraska third.

The top of the Husker order is Boldt, batting lefty is due.
A flair to right and on comes Shaw and with a head first slide, he makes the catch for one down, on yet another good defensive play.

Schleppenback, from the lefty side bats with one gone.
A sharp ground ball toward the hole on the right side and Barrera on the dive has it and rights himself and the 3-1 play is two away.

Headley bats lefty, with two outs.
He sends a high deep drive to right and Shaw on the track flags it to retire the side in order.

Three in the books and still nobody on the pay station.

  11. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Kubat will start on the rubber again for the Huskers as the fourth commences.

Shaw, after a nice defensive play in the last inning, leads off for the Horns batting lefty.
He goes fishing for a ball outside and in the dirt and the 2-3 throw completes the fifth K so far and one away.

Barrera, with the only Texas hit so far, a single, bats righty with one down.
A ground ball to third and the 5-3 is two outs.

Marlow bats lefty with two away.
A high fast ball is sent the opposite way through the hole on the left side for the second single of the game for Texas.
Again, I would consider the running game to try to manufacture a run.

Cantu bats righty with one on and two gone.
The count runs full and Marlow has to go now.
He takes off on the pitch and another K swinging on a slow change ends the inning.

Bottom of four and it's a carbon copy of last night so far with nothing scored.

  12. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Clemens back out to try and hold the fort till the Horns find some offense somewhere.

The Husker catcher, Lubach, leads off from the right side.
He hits a fair ball that hits him, as he is out of the box and by rule that is an out and scored a 2U.

Miller is the DH, batting lefty with one down.
He K's swinging on the slow change for his first strike out and two away.

Darby will bat righty with two gone.
He flies out to shallow left to retire the side in order.

Four gone and still no tallies.

  13. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Kubat comes out to try and keep the game tied 0-0 as the fifth will start.

Boswell leads off from the left side for Texas.
A ground ball on the first pitch to short goes 6-3 for one down.

Baker will bat as the DH right handed with one gone.
A fly ball to right is another easy out and two away.

Gurwitz, at the bottom of the order bats righty, with two outs.
A high foul pop to first and another quick inning as the side goes in order.

Halfway through the second game of the series and still no runs scored.

  14. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

So just like last night, we reach bottom of the fifth scoreless and this is where it went wrong for Texas, with three Husker runs scored. Clemens back to try and change that from happening again.

Schreiber leads off from the right side, for Nebraska.
A jam shot on a hop, goes to second and the 4-3 is one away.

Lefty hitter, Dilday, bats with one gone.
A high chop to Barrera at first goes 3U as he touches the bag for two outs.

Placzek will bat in the nine hole, with two gone, from the right side.
He walks him and boy, you didn't want that.

That allows a good hitter in Boldt, at the top of the order back up with one on and two away.
A sharply hit ball to Hinojosa and he goes the short way, (pun kind of intended) to second and the 6-4 force retires the side.

Clemens doesn't let history repeat again and to the sixth, still all 0's on the board.

  15. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Kubat out to try and hold serve in the sixth.

Johnson leads off, as the top of the order is up.
The righty hitter sends a soft fly to left for one gone.

Hinojosa bats righty with one down.
A ground ball to third is a quick second out.

Shaw bats lefty with two down.
He lines one right back to the mound to retire the side as the pitchers snags it.

Texas still can't get the offense off the ground and bottom of six and tied 0-0.

  16. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Clemens again tries keep the game knotted as he pitches the sixth.

Schleppenbach will lead off against him, from the left side.
A chopper up the middle and Marlow charges and the against the body throw and a nice stretch by Barrera at first makes the 4-3 put out and one down.

Headley bats lefty, with one gone.
He K's swinging on the low change for two away.

Right handed hitting catcher Lubach, bats with two outs.
A ground ball to Hinojosa and on the transfer to his throwing hand, he drops it for his second error of the game.

This prompts a visit from Skip because after he should have been out of the inning, he has to face a dangerous hitter with a man on.

That hitter is the DH, Miller, from the left side.
The big Husker already has a hit today and bats with one on and two gone.
Unrattled by the error, Clemens gets him on a 3U that retires the side.

This game is like a time bomb being past back and forth and waiting to see who it goes off on.
    Six played and still 0-0.

  17. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Kubat risks his shutout, as he still hurls for the Huskers in the seventh.

Barrera will lead off, from the right side for Texas.
He swings at three change ups and makes nothing but a breeze, for a K and one out.

Marlow bats lefty, with one gone.
A ground ball to short is another easy second out.

Cantu bats with two away, from the right side.
He sends a fly ball to the gap in right center and the right fielder on the run makes the backhanded stab to retire the side.

Texas goes in order again and one in run sixteen innings of hardball won't win many games, but still tied 0-0 as they stretch at Haymarket Park.

  18. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Clemens gives it another go in the seventh and this might be his last inning, if he can get through it.

Right fielder, Darby, who made the running catch to end the last inning will lead off.
The lefty hitter grounds to second and the 4-3 is the first out.

Schreiber, a righty hitter, bats with one down.
A one hopper back to Clemens, and he runs toward first and finally flips to Barrera for the 1-3 second out.

Dilday, bats lefty, with two gone.
He grounds a ball by first base and Barrera dives and knocks it down and as Clemens covers, nips the runner on the 3-1 to retire the side.

Seven innings gone and still no runs.

  19. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Kubat will remain for the Texas eighth on the hill.

Boswell leads off as a lefty and tries to something started for the Horns offensively.
No dice, he K's swinging on the big curve and is tagged out 2U to complete the out.

The freshman DH, is righty hitting, Joe Baker, with one gone.
A full count is reached and a ground ball to short is a 6-3 second out, as twelve straight Horns have gone down in order now.

Gurwitz bats righty, in the nine hole, with two outs.
Kubat goes over 100 pitches as he K's him swinging to retire the side in order one more time.

Texas has no clue against the lefty and it's still 0-0 to the bottom of eight.

One of those games where you feel great for the pitcher that wins and terrible for the one that loses. Both leaving on the field today

  21. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Clemens does come out for the Horns in the Husker eighth. Why not, he has earned it.

Placzek, the nine hole hitter, bats righty, to lead off.
You need this out here in the worst way.
The count goes 3-1 and Clemens is having a cramp in his pitching hand and out goes the trainer.

He has to leave the game on the injury. Great outing for him, but all he can do is lose the game now, if Nebraska scores this inning.

    Pitching change.

  22. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Kirby Bellow, the left hander will replace the injured Clemens and will get as many warm up pitches as he needs.

It's a tough spot, as he inherits the 3-1 count on Placzek.
He throws a strike to run the count full and a big pitch here.
A line drive to left eludes Johnson on a dive and it goes to the wall for a double.

Boldt will bat at the top of the order with one on.
He squares to bunt and lays down the successful 2-3 sac for one out as the runner goes to third.

Alvarado, is a right handed pinch hitter and that brings out Skip for a conference.
    He leaves Bellow out there.
The pinch hitter bats with one down and a runner at third.
The infield comes in for Texas, to try to cut off the run.
He K's him swinging on a big curve, for a huge second out.

Headley, bats lefty, with two outs and the lead run at third.
A fly ball to right gets Bellow out of the jam, after he gave up the double.

Clutch work by Kirby, after the Clemens injury. It keeps the game 0-0 after eight.

  23. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Kubat is done, the new pitcher for Nebraska is right hander, Jake Howense.

His first batter to face is Johnson, at the top of the order again.
You can't ask for better, to get something started.
He swings at a pitch at his shoe tops for another K and one down.

Hinojosa bats righty, with one gone.
A ground ball to third and the 5-3 is two away.

Shaw bats lefty, with two outs.
Fifteen straight outs made by Texas batters now.
A full count and fouls off about seven pitches.
He finally walks on a low pitch.
He must go, got to try and score here.

Barrera bats righty, with one one and two down.
Six pitches and Shaw hasn't moved yet.
A high pop to short by the mound will retire the side.
Why didn't Shaw run is a mystery to me?

Nebraska with a chance to win it in the ninth, tied at 0-0.

  24. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Bellow must keep the Huskers off the board to send it to extras as the Nebraska ninth comes.

Leading off is the catcher Lubach, the righty hitter.
A ground ball to deep short, Hinojosa has it and the strong throw is a 6-3 first out.

The big dangerous lefty, Miller, bats as the DH with one gone.
A big chopper to short again and it's two away.

Darby bats lefty with two gone.
He grounds a single up the middle for a two out runner.

Schreiber, the first baseman, bats righty with one on and two gone.
A slow hopper to third and the long throw is just in time to get him and retire the side.

Extra innings it is and a run is required to win the game as penetrations or first downs won't get the job done.

  25. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Hohensee stays on to pitch the tenth.

Marlow leads off lefty against him for Texas.
A fly ball to right goes nowhere and it's one away.

Cantu bats as a righty hitter, with one down.
The count is worked full and he takes a fast ball on the outside corner for a called third strike and two away.

Boswell bats lefty with two gone.
Another full count and he K's swinging on a fast ball to retire the side in order.

The K's are many and the runners few for Texas. Nebraska with another chance to win in the bottom of ten.

Seems like it takes our hitters 2-3 times seeing a pitcher to figure him out, and then in comes another pitcher. Rinse and repeat. This is sad. Doesn't matter what changes they have made to the new baseball, it you can't hit it, it doesn't matter. Maybe Augie is hoping the other team will just get tired and fall asleep, I guess. Gzzzzz.

Bellow will keep chunking for the Horns in the tenth.

Wes Edrington, will bat right handed as he came in defensively last inning.
The new shortstop for the Huskers and on a 1-2 pitch is hit on the foot and the HBP puts the winning run on.

Placzek, in the nine hole, from the right side will bunt him over on the 1-3 sac.

Top of the order up in Boldt, with one on and one out.
Thought they might walk him, but no they don't.
A fly ball to shallow left is two away, as the runner has to hold at second.

Louise Alvarado, bats righty with two outs and the winning run at second.
They are going to walk him to set up the force at any base.

It also brings up a lefty hitter in Headley, with two on and two outs.
A 2-0 count brings out Skip for a meeting to try and settle the nerves of Bellow.
He leaves at the umpire's request and Headley is back in the box.
A high pop to shallow center and Hinojosa ranges out and has it on a staggering catch to end the inning.

Bellow escapes again and Texas tries to do something to win the game, as the eleventh is here.

  28. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Colton Howell, who pitched yesterday is back again and the right hander will start the Texas eleventh.

Freshman Connor Macalla, is the pinch hitter, as we here that Barnes is out as the basketball coach at Texas.
He takes an inside corner breaker for a K and one down.

Gurwitz, bats righty with one gone.
The count runs full and a fly ball to left is two away.

Johnson will bat again at the top of the order with two down.
The righty hitting lefty fielder pops out foul to the first baseman as the Horns go meekly once again.

Well the only Texas action so far is letting Barnes go as the basketball coach and the Huskers once more have a chance to win it in the elventh, tied at 0-0.

  29. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Bellow will keep going in the eleventh for Texas.

Lubach will lead off for the Huskers, from the right side.
He K's him swinging on the inside heat, on the hands, for one away.

Miller, the big lefty, hitter bats like you want him to, with nobody on.
He single through the left side for his second hit and he will be pinch ran for.

Darby hits lefty with one on and one down.
Bellow has allowed runners every inning.
A ground ball back to Bellow and he goes to second and for the second time today he loses the ball on the transfer.
The 1-6 force is made for two away.
The runner goes and steals the bag easily as he had a great job.
If only Texas had tried that with their runners.

That brings out Skip and a change is made.

    Pitching change.
