The last game of the series sees the Horns trying not to be swept, for the first time, in a three game series this year. Nebraska has taken the first two games as Texas has scored just one run in 24 innings. Yesterday's fifteen inning affair was epic in length, but came up short for Texas in a 1-0 loss. It wasn't exactly what you would expect in the era of the new livelier baseball.

Chad Hollingsworth hopes to continue his good work on thee mound, but he hopes even more that the Horns can break out the bats and score some runs.

By the weather is warmer, but a very strong wind is blowing between 25-40 mph, that should make all pop ups and fly balls an adventure.

The game video is only on the BTN+ subscription and the audio is

    Going for the lineups.

Derek Burkamper, a tall right hander gets the start on the mound, with the wind howling out to right at a high velocity.

Johnson leads off from the right side.
He rockets a liner to center for a lead single and let's hope that continues.

Hinojosa bats righty with one on.
He put down the 1-3 sac to move Johnson to second.

Shaw will bat lefty with one on and one down.
A ground ball to short is a 6-3 second out, as Ben moves to third.

Barrera will bat from the right side with two gone and a runner at third.
You would hate to start this game by stranding a runner in scoring position.
Texas does just that, as Barrera K's swinging for the 28th K of the series for Texas.

Texas gets nothing and Nebraska comes to bat.

The right hander, Chad Hollingsworth gets the start for Texas on this windy day.

Ryan Boldt, the Husker center fielder, will lead off from the left side.
A fly ball to left is knocked down by the wind and Johnson has it for one down.

Jake Schleppenbach, is the second baseman and also bats lefty.
He sends a blooper to center, that lands between three converging Horns, for a single.

Blake Headley, bats also lefty, and plays third base today.
He has one on and one gone as he steps in.
A high drive to right center and the wind takes it over Gurwitz and here comes the runner around third and the relay is late. It's a rbi double.

    Nebraska leads 1-0.

The big DH, is Ben Miller, a lefty.
He walks to put two on.

The catcher is Tanner Lubach, and the first righty batter.
Two on and one out for him and a check swing shoots a slow grounder to the hole on the right side.
Clemens has it, but his throw to Hollingsworth is just late and it loads the bases.

Darby the right fielder, who won the game yesterday, bats lefty with one down.
He singles through the right side to score one more.

    Nebraska leads 2-0.

The left fielder Dilday, plays left field and bats lefty with the bases loaded and one away.
A ground ball up the middle is fielded by Marlow and he steps on the bag and fires to first for a 4U-3 double play to end the inning.

It could have been worse, but a bad start for the Horns, as Nebraska leads 2-0 after one.

  6. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Burkamper is out to start his second inning with a new minted 2-0 lead.

Marlow leads off for the Horns, from the left side.
He sends a shallow fly ball to left for one away.

Boswell up lefty with one down.
He sends a drive to left and the wind plays tricks with it and the left fielder reaches out and makes the catch as he bangs hard off the fence.

Cantu bats righty with two gone.
He sends a fly ball to right center and the right fielder races into the gap and makes a running catch to retire the side in order.

Bottom of two and Nebraska leads 2-0.

Hollingsworth hopes to settle down, after a shaky start is back out.

The first baseman is Scott Schreiber, batting right handed.
He K's swinging for one out.

Wes Edrington, plays shortstop today and bats righty with one away.
He take a called strike three on three pitches for two down.

Boldt steps in lefty with two down, as the top of the Husker is back again.
A drive to right and the wind takes it over Shaw and off the fence for a double.

Schleppenbach, bats from the left side, with one on and two away.
A liner to left and the wind is knocking it down as Johnson charges and makes a sliding catch to end the inning.

Two played and Nebraska leads 2-0.

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Burkamper is still going on the mound for the Huskers in the third.

Clemens, back on first today, will lead off against him, from the left side.
A hard drive is off the first baseman's glove and into shallow right field for a single.

Gurwitz will bat righty with one on.
He tries to bunt and pops it up foul and the first baseman has it for one away.
On a day like today and your already trailing by two, that is kind of a strange to me anyway.

Johnson is back at the top of the order, with one out.
The righty hitter has a hit in his first trip today.
A high fly ball to right that carries to the wall is caught as he is up against it.

Hinojosa bats with two gone and one on, from the right side.
He sends a drive to center and the center fielder on the run has it on a reach to retire the side.

Texas just can't break through and Nebraska leads 2-0, to the bottom of three.

Hollingsworth comes back out for the third after finding his sea legs last inning.

Headley, leads off, from the left side.
A fly ball to center is one down.

Miller, the big DH steps in lefty with one out.
A liner to left center, Gurwitz on the run and a dive, makes a web gem catch for two gone.

The Husker catcher is Lubach, batting righty with two outs.
A ground ball up the middle is through for a single.

Darby bats lefty with one on and one down.
He has hurt the Horns the last two games with rbi's.
He sends a liner to center for his second hit of the game to put two on.

Elijah Dilday, bats lefty with two on and two down.
Can't allow more runs the way the series has gone for Texas so far.
But he sends a drive down the line in right and it drops just fair for a double and a rbi.

    Nebraska leads 3-0.

Schreiber bats righty with two on and two down.
He grounds a slow roller to third and the throw is wide for an error and another run.

    Nebraska leads 4-0.

Edrington sends a grounder to deep short and the throw by Hinojosa is late, for another run on the infield hit.

    Nebraska leads 5-0.

Skip out and that's all for Hollingsworth. He gave up some hits, but had some bad luck too.

    Pitching change.

  10. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

The new pitcher for Texas is left hander, Travis Duke, who pitched yesterday in that marathon.

You feared this, as the Horns seem kind of down and then some diversity today on some infield hits and a key error. It all leads to a 5-0 deficit.

Boldt is back up again, at the top of the order with two on and two outs.
A liner to left is a hit and the runner rounds and for some reason, the throw is cut off, it looked like it would have nailed the runner. All going bad for Texas now.

    Nebraska leads 6-0.

Schleppenbach up lefty, with still two on and two outs.
A shallow pop to right carries out to Shaw to retire the side.

Nebraska has a firm grip on this one and the sweep, now leading 6-0, after three.

  11. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Burkamper has a big lead to work with in the fourth.

Shaw leads off lefty, trying to get something started.
A ground ball to second is booted and then recovers and still gets him 4-3 for the first out.

Barrera up righty with one down.
He grounds to short for a quick 6-3 second out.

Marlow bats lefty with two down.
A liner to left and the left fielder charges and makes a sliding catch to retire the side in order.

The scoreless innings keep mounting for Texas, as Nebraska leads 6-0 to the bottom of four.

Josh Sawyer, comes out to work the fourth for the Horns.

Headley leads off lefty for the Huskers.
He sends a high pop to shallow left and Hinojosa goes out and battles it and makes the catch backhanded for one away.

Miller is the DH, batting lefty with one gone.
He grounds a single up the middle into center.

Lubach hits righty with one on and one down.
The count runs full and a chop back to the mound and he goes to second and it's off Hinojosa's glove, for an error on a double play ball. Texas is just starting to crack now, it appeared like a pretty good throw by Josh.

Darby bats lefty and has two hits already today.
He has two on and one out and flies to Johnson in left for two away.

Dilday is in the lefty box with a bat.
Still two on and now two outs for him.
He walks on four pitches to load the bases.

Schreiber bats righty with the bases loaded and two outs.
Another hit and the ten run rule will start being an issue.
Any runs would be unearned after the error now.
He K's swinging and that retires the side.

That keeps the Huskers from breaking it wide open, but it's bad enough as they lead 6-0 after four.

  15. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Burkamper keeps rocking along, as all Husker pitcher's have so far.

The fifth begins with Marlow leading off, from the left side.
He K's swinging on what honestly looked like a nonchalant swing for one down.

Cantu bats righty with one down, from the right side.
He flies out to center and it's another quick and easy out.

Boswell bats lefty with two down.
He K's swinging and that retires the side in order.

Texas looks and acts like they can't get out of Lincoln fast enough and halfway through the last game of the series they trail 6-0.

  16. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Sawyer back out to work the fifth.

Edrington leads off righty and lines a single to right for another lead runner.

Boldt up lefty, as the lefty batter brings back the top of the order, with one on.
He sends a ground ball to short and it's called a 6-4-3 double play, but he was safe at first. The ump is obviously bored and wants out of here too.

Schleppenback bats lefty with two down.
    He singles to right.

Headley bats lefty with one on and two outs.
He slices a single to right center to put two on.

Miller, the big lefty hitter, has two on and two gone.
He grounds to short and the 6-3 ends the frame.

Five played and Nebraska leads 6-0

  17. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Burkamper, who is cruising right along will pitch the sixth.

Gurwitz leads off and after a 2-0 count, he hits a ball off his shoe tops for a 6-3 out that is a poster for how this game has gone hitting wise.

Johnson bats righty with one gone, at the top of the order.
He is hit by the pitch to reach.

Hinojosa hits from the right side, with one out.
He grounds to third and it's a 5-3 second out as Johnson goes to second.

Shaw bats with one on and two gone.
He flies out to right to retire the side.

Texas still can't score and to the bottom of six, Nebraska leads 6-0.

  18. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Jon Malmin, a lefty, will come in to pitch the sixth for Texas.

Lubach will lead off for the Huskers, from the right side.
He ground to Marlow and he backhands it and the 4-3 is one away.

Darby bats with one away, from the left side.
He K's swinging for two gone.

Dilday will step in lefty with two gone.
He golfs a drive off the dirt into center for a single that looked like Cricket.

Schreiber bats righty, with one on and two away.
He pops up on the right side to Clemens to retire the side.

Six played and it's all and I really mean all Nebraska, as they lead 6-0.

  19. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Burkamper comes out and sits in his rocking chair, to hurl the seventh, it honestly seems that way.

Barrera will lead off from the right side for the Horns.
He sends a can of corn to center for one down.

Marlow bats lefty, with one out.
He K's swinging for two gone.

Boswell bats from the left side, with two outs.
A liner to up the middle and the second baseman dives and snags the liner laid out to retire the side in order.

That's 23 innings without a run for the Horns now, if your keeping score and Nebraska leads 6-0 as they stretch and enjoy this sweep of Texas in Lincoln.

  20. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Malmin will stay on and pitch the seventh for Texas.

Edrington leads off, from the right side.
A high foul pop is pushed back in play for Boswell and he has it for one down.

Boldt brings the top of the order back up once more with one away.
The lefty hitting lead off man sends a little pop to shallow left and Hinojosa staggers around and finally backhands it for two gone.

Schleppenbach bats lefty, with two outs.
A liner right at Shaw will mercifully retire the side in order.

    After seven Nebraska leads 6-0.

  21. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Burkamper will come out for Nebraska in the Texas eighth, this time with a newspaper, I believe.

Cantu leads off from the right side for the Horns.
The count runs full and he takes a fast ball, that couldn't have split the plate more perfectly, for a called strike three and one down.

Clemens up lefty with one away.
A ground ball to second is booted again and picked up for a 4-3 out two.

Gurwitz bats righty, with two gone.
A high foul pop on the left side and the third baseman over runs it and it falls foul.
So Gurwitz, with a second life K's swinging to retire the side in order again.

Only suspense left in this game is whether Burkamper gets a complete game win and if Texas scores a run.

Nebraska leads 6-0 to the bottom of eight.

  22. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Malmin sticks around in the eighth for Texas.

Headley leads off, from the left side and flies out to left to Johnson, for one away.

Miller, the big lefty DH, bats with one gone.
A ground ball to second and the 4-3 is two away.

Lubach, the catcher, bats righty, with two outs.

Skip out and he wants a righty for some reason, I guess to get him some work.

    Pitching change.

Andy McGuire, is the right handed pitcher coming in for Texas. I guess they want to see him pitch to a batter.

Lubach will face him, from the right side, with two outs.
He K's swinging and maybe he should have started.
That retires the side in order, thankfully.

To the ninth and Texas still looking for a run. Nebraska leads 6-0.

  25. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Burkamper is out to try for the complete game victory.

Johnson leads off, batting righty, at the top of the order.
A liner down the left field line, lands just fair and a lead double.

Hinjososa will bat righty, with one on.
He grounds to third and the 5-3 is an out, as Johnson stays at second.

Shaw bats lefty with one on and one away.
    Johnson goes and steals third.
Shaw drives one to right and with the wind it goes way out for the first homer of the series and Texas finally scores!

    Nebraska leads 6-2.

Barrera bats righty with one down.
He singles to right and Burkamper, is obviously out of gas.

Here comes the coach and he is done and leaves to an ovation from the crowd.

    Pitching change.

  26. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

The new Husker pitcher is Josh Roeder, the right handed closer.

Marlow is his first batter to face, from the left side.
He grounds to short and the 6-4-3 double play ends the game and the series.

Nebraska wins 6-2 and sweeps the series. That was seriously ugly baseball by the Horns on offense. Be back after the post game to talk more.

This is very distressing. Even if we do well in the CWS, losing to Nebraska SUCKS.

We had a 31-28 series lead on Nebraska going into this weekend. Now the series is tied 31-31.:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:

Nothing to say, Texas had no offense to speak off, for the whole series, except for the flurry in the ninth, against a tired pitching, trying for a compete game. He had never gone longer than seven innings in a game this year. It was more than ironic that when the closer came in, he got a quick double play to end things. Texas went 24 and 1/3 innings without scoring before the homer by Shaw.

Texas is at a crossroads like they were last year. The offense either picks it up, starting with a crucial series in Stillwater, next weekend, or things could go south. Last year, the pitching got even better in the latter part of the season and then the post season. You can't expect that again, that was phenomenal, they had been very good before that. It's the new ball era and Texas either takes advantage or not. The strike outs have to be lessened and that would be helped if the Horn hitters would stop swinging at so many bad pitches.

The only real chance Texas has to host a regional is to win the conference now. The future is out there and it won't be easy to beat the better teams, still to play on the schedule. It's a crossroad, which way will Texas go? It's entirely up to them. :hookem:

I really thought the Horns would have decent bats this year. Can someone please explain the ineptness?

Read my last post on yesterday's game thread. I could get into mechanics, but it would bore everyone to tears. As I mentioned in that post, Texas should bring in an advisory hitting coach, such as Keith Moreland or some other well thought of instructor. They could look at player mechanics and talk about their approach to hitting, it couldn't hurt and could do some good.

You would think players at this level and on a Texas baseball team, would not need that. This has gone on for years now and something needs to be changed.
