I cannot believe I am nervous about tonight

It is a sad state of affairs when Longhorn fans go into the Rice game with the only question on our minds being "How bad?", but the question does not refer to how bad will we beat them, but instead refers to how bad will we look.

I am hopeful, though not brimming with confidence, that we will simply out-athlete them on our way to a 14 point victory. Yikes!

I'm the opposite; would always be nervous before every game.
Now I have to remind myself we have a game today.

I hope we win, but won't be surprised if we don't. The thrill is gone.

Man I know what you mean. Now this is Rice, let that sink in, Rice and I'm sweating it.

We got ripped real good on College Gameday, maybe some of the players saw it and will respond.

I was surprised last weekend, not going to lie.
I am just pondering and like 99% here am taking liberties I cannot backup as I'll admit I an not a coach and I am not a player at UT.
UT is young, playing in South Bend prime time. Is ND THAT good, maybe I'll go as far as to say probably...we really don't know.
Like my Aggie coworkers who are convinced they are THAT good, after one game. Probably not. Reminded me this week why I detest that program with all the childish photoshop UT crap. Grown *** men giggling over put together YouTube videos.
Is UT as bad as they looked, no. They did seem to give up way too early and I am concerned about that.
I expect UT to win convincingly today.

Turned on Gameday at about 8:39 and caught the last words of talk about Texas. Herbie was saying "when players are tweeting out things like that".... anybody catch what was tweeted? The discussion was about Norvell taking over play-calling having last done it 10 years ago at UCLA.

He's probably referring to the lack of perceived support that Watson/Wickline got from the players on twitter when Strong made the announcement. Both Gray and Daje said something to the effect of "gotta keep moving forward."

They were commenting on player comment that they quit after getting behind by 7 points. Hadn't heard that report before about player comments and quite concerning. If true I have to wonder if means player(s) had no confidence in the offense to score or shocked at reality of poor defense or what. Since I hadn't heard about these player remarks before I'm hoping was not true.
Kirk went on a rant about how shocking the performance was for a Texas team, with Texas players, saying we haven't been good, or even played hard, since the days of Colt leaving.

THERE IT IS!!!!!!!!!!! :hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem:

(I'm fired up because I think we should actually win this one tonight.)

I am nervous too. Our players have looked so out of synch, confused, mistake ridden for the last three games. I know this team is not last years team, so to link these players to last year is a little unfair. But the coaches are much the same at critical levels. And our guys don't seem to pay attention to detail, making too many mistakes game after game. Speaking of our QB play there, and O line, and D-backs. O line and D backs can be afforded slack since both positions are fraught with newcomers.

And the fact is that we have so many freshmen playing and making freshman mistakes that we never can get a sense of confidence that we are predictably able to make the plays throughout the game. Instead I find myself expecting a busted play to screw it up, when we should be expecting the competency and dependability of a highly skilled, well oiled dynamo.

Maybe next year the well oiled monster machine will show up.

Uh, three consecutive *** whippings would indicate otherwise. 117-20. We're pretty crappy.

I understand, but this is a new season and we have played one game this year.

The more I think about the game tonight and the condition of the program now, the more angry I get.

I believe that all of the skepticism and criticism is fully justified. Over the first 14 games and, particularly over the last three, we have observed a level of performance that may have never been seen before by this program.

We should all be disgusted. And we are. The University, the coaching staff, the administration and the players should be embarrassed. And they are.

While I love Strong and what he represents, the failure we are seeing is all on him. He took the job and assembled the staff. Armed with a blank check and understanding the nature of football in this conference, he stubbornly dug in his heels and insisted on keeping coaches like Watson. For that reason, he has only himself to blame.

As has been observed ad nauseum on this Board, if Strong is not capable of managing a big-time program like Texas -- and, so far, we have no reason to believe otherwise -- then a change needs to be made sooner rather than later.

I would love to be wrong. We shall see.

Unfortunately the end of last season carried to the start of this season is very relevant. The changing of a few players and months of practice resulted in the same outcome. Combine that with an OC change to a guy who hasnt called plays in a decade means to me we could be in serious trouble. I hope I am misreading the impact of the OC change and we actually improve. We're terrible right now.

So true. Great guy, but in above his head. This isn't Louisville. Come to think of it, Louisville would beat us.

Man you all are a bunch of downers. I'd like to argue with you, but I really can't. I just really hope you all are wrong.

Most of us are willing to be patient enough, and expected culture change to be painful.
But there also has to be a reason for hope. Like an occasional first down or one of those touchdowns I hear about (hah).

No one really expected us to beat ND this year, but we all just wanted to see a glimpse of what we could be. Some spark. Instead, we saw nothing.

I hope that Charlie knows where to go from here. I can't imagine he's ever had a team this ******* bad to rebuild though. (and laying it all at Mack's feet was OK last year - not this year)

well, one thing that gives me hope is that College football is full of surprises.

For example, Jacksonville St. is taking Auburn into OT after leading most of the game.

We're not the only fanbase to feel this pain, nor will it last forever. We could end up being the surprise of the season (in a good way) for all we know.

One good thing was the young players on D got lots of reps. Good because Texas still won comfortably and they needed reps. Not so good with Rice pushing the DL around but give the Rice RB some credit as well.

Time of possession is not as important as winning. You have to take the points when given them.(or taking them in the two big special teams plays early) Still, those two uber quick possessions due to great ST success hurt the continuity of the new offense getting their reps in early.

Notice the D seemed to be prepping for pass happy Cal with all the LB and DB's in the game, lots of 3 man fronts. The guard and center play for Rice was solid as they pulled and leveraged some decent gaps up the gut. The Texas DL need to man up, hold their ground, yet shed the blocks. One really nice 3rd down stop by Poona saw him getting penetration. So at least make the plays when it counts so you can get off the field.

Cal will be interesting to watch.
