Time to fire soccer coach Angela Kelly?

Don't believe the soccer team will get an NCAA bid on Monday. So, that means no post-season in 3 of her 4 seasons at Texas.

Not sure if the problem has been that she can't coach offense, or can't recruit players who can score goals, but team only scored more than 2 goals twice this season. Losing a senior goal-keeper won't help things next season. 2016 recruiting class is currently ranked 47th, and only one commitment from a national Top 100 player.

I wasn't on board when Plonsky hired her. She was on her downward descent at Tennessee, one Sweet 16 appearance, I believe, and no Texas connections; not exactly the recipe for success, IMO.

Her salary is around $287,000. The Florida State coach is making $400,000. So, doesn't seem like we are competitive financially; so, perhaps we are getting what we pay for.

When I watch the team play I just don't see a lot of talent. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. If we didn't have Abby we probably would've given up about 4 goals a game. Offensively it's the same thing, Adams and Flores are nice young players but after that I just don't see any difference makers offensively.

But in my opinion I think she should be allowed to coach her fifth season. Which means every player on the team will be a player she recruited. And although the recruiting class this year isn't rated very high there are some players in this class that have a lot of ability. Also her 2017 class is the class where I think she will get the program where it needs to be. The 2017 class has some difference makers in it.

Not a single elite recruit from the state of Texas for 2016 will sign with the 'Horns. Not making the NCAA tourney this season increases the chances of current 2017 and 2018 verbal commitments from de-committing down the road based on the lack of on-the-field success, especially if there is no NCAA tourney bid one year from now.

For Kelly as a coach, her NCAA tourney bids are now 2 in her last 7 seasons; that's pathetic and is clearly indicative of downward descent in her coaching career. Maybe a chance will be made a year from now if that stat becomes 1 NCAA bid in 5 years for Texas, and 2 NCAA bids in 8 seasons for Kelly personally.

I highly doubt It, most of the 2017 and 2018 recruits committed when the program wasn't very good. Also most of those recruits have other club teammates who are also committed to Texas which makes a huge difference.

And, there's always the chance of some current players transferring. So, no guarantees about any player being on the roster until they are in uniform.

Yes, there's always that chance but most players want playing time. So, if players do transfer it will probably be because they're not getting playing time or something that doesn't have anything to do with soccer.

And it's also why I think the players that are committed to Texas won't de-committ because there is the opportunity to get tons of playing time.

Playing time is important to all soccer players, but I would bet that so is winning games and making the NCAA tournament.

Maybe they view themselves as being the players who will do that.

Old thread but... the soccer team just ended their season tonight by failing to qualify for the Big 12 tournament. I haven't followed the team closely, but I have to believe that with her contract up before the start of next season, Coach Kelly will not be returning. If she is back, then there are far bigger problems than the state of our soccer program.

Something needs to change in several women's programs.

She has done a great job over the first part of the season. Her teams still have trouble scoring goals. Just about every game they've won has been by only one goal.

Yesterday, her team goes up to OU and ends up with a 0-0 tie in 2 overtimes against an OU team which is 2-8 on the season; that's a step backwards, IMO, after such early season progress.

I have to agree with you because the twitter feed said their were close shots taken but missed. As well though, it's hard to score with 9 people in the box plus the goal keeper.

Everything else equal, I'm glad we have the win over West Virginia and tie against OU than the other way around . . .

This year will get her an extension, but a tie against your biggest rival who is pitiful this year is cause for concern.

She got her extension after last season as I believe her contract was almost over; it was kind of extend-or-fire type of decision for Plonsky in order not to hurt recruiting.

My very limited experience suggests OU has always been really good at stalling for the entire game against superior competition.

Could be, but my experience has been they want to destroy every Texas team they face regardless of the sport.

I'm on the fence about being concerned. On one side, this is OU's 2017 bright spot. They'll be saying "We sucked ( :ousucks:as they always do) in 2017, only won two games, but we stopped Texas from being the only undefeated team in 2017." OU played their best game due to the rivalry. The concern comes in knowing that OSU beat them 4-1. A team that is our last conference game.

When you are 11-0, any loss or tie to any team is a step backwards.

Malcom, the good news is the team is winning. However, the team does have issues on offense that eventually will end the season.

So, people were expecting an undefeated, national championship team this year? :smh:

Viper, I'd just like to play this season out before we start predicting its end. I have always believe some of players from all sports come to this site from time to time, I personally want them to see me supporting their successes not luminating their shortcomings.
