Some funny stuff right there....http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/col...port-questioning-involvement-football-program
Chip Brown is an SMU grad from Kalamazoo, Michigan and not a Longhorn. He doesn't care about UT or A&M, he just wants clicks, to stir up trouble and then to get more clicks. He is not on "our side." If stirring up trouble by spreading rumors about UT gets clicks, he'll do it. If stirring up trouble by spreading rumors about A&m gets clicks, he'll do it. **** Chip Brown. Cannot believing I am saying this, but I like aggy and sharp better than the POS Chip Brown. Sure it's funny now that he's stirring up trouble at A&M. It will not be funny when he starts BS and stirs up trouble directed toward Strong or Smart or Augie when his clicks are down. He has no story if there is not any controversy and he will gladly manufacture it if he needs to. I wish UT would ban this leech's access to everything. I would support firing anyone who leaks him information. He needs to go away.
Yep. As much as I'd like to believe the report, because it would be at aggy expense and that is fun, this is Chip Brown we're talking about here. It doesn't have to be true at all. Chip Brown gets his clicks, none of this can ever be proven one way or another, and if its a fairy tale, (as I am sure 75% of it is) there won't be any repercussions for Chip Brown. Agree with Htown that Chip should be radioactive. Even "Kurt" Bohls has more credibility.
But should the Chancellor of their entire system stoop to even answer Chip's blog? Seems kinda low-rent to me. I thought a$m did not care about us anymore.
If we agree Chip has no credibility, that's even more reason for Sharp not to get involved. He should have much better things to do than read and respond to internet guys looking for clicks.
The funniest thing to me is Sharp's camp denying that he was roommates with Rick Perry. Talk about a total loss of credibility....
Can you imagine McRaven responding to some internet hack like this? It wouldn't even make a click on his give-a-damn meter. Sharp needs to act like a professional and not a whiny aggy fan.
Agreed, there is definitely some entertainment value to this! I am surprised Sharp didn't reference "t.u." or say teasip. He may be boss hog of hooterville but he rose to the bait, and the rest of the world gets to see what a joke he is.
in my mind chip has always been a longhorn homer. i certainly wish sharp hadnt engaged, but i find this to be thoroughly entertaining.
I'm sure that Sharp put a media person on it. I met John Sharp about 30 years ago when he was a young state representative running for State Senate. For a legislator, he seemed a particularly humble, nice, accommodating guy.
Chip has been ripped by Longhorns and I don't think Powers, Mack or Patterson would consider him to be a homer. He is a local media personality and as such will cover the Longhorns; he's not going to rip them 100%. What about Chad Hastings (is that his name)? He is very balanced towards the Longhorns and we all know he is an Aggie. I think he realizes he can't just wave the Aggie flag all day and get away with it in Austin.
maybe so, but it seems like chip goes out of his way to take shots at A&M. i've never listened to hastings, but from what i glean he seems to toe the company line for his employer.
Well you can say this for Chip. His conscience isn't holding him back. He has enough presence that comparing his reporting to facts can be a worthwhile use of resources.
I think Hastings tries to be an unbiased commentator. Does that mean he holds his tongue or is he unfiltered? I'd say he probably holds his tongue within reason. When 104.9 became the Longhorn flagship station it was my sincere opinion that Chip Brown would leave the station and he did. I felt there was no way he could do the reporting that he did in the past and survive. I'm surprised that Bucky Godbolt is still on there because he doesn't filter his brain too much either.
SMU grad, doesnt like either of us. Will happily take shots at whoever. The perception of him being a longhorn homer and the perception of him being part of the UT-A&M rivalry leads to clicks so he tried to stir it up. Sadly, since people actually believe he is on UT's "side", he is successful. As for Sharp, he probably just got tired of Chip's outright bull****.
It seems it would have been easy to confirm whether Sharp and Perry were roommates or not; that is just sloppy and I'm surprised at this point in his career that he would not confirm it and not understand that even one point such as this could destroy the credibility of the reporting. Now, it may be that Chip is and always has been sloppy. I think he is hyperactive (he admits it on the air; maybe just poking fun at himself) as he constantly segues, fails to finish thoughts and interrupts at will on the show. All that and his haste to scoop a story creates the sloppiness.
I am not surprised. He doesn't have to be accurate. There is no accountability in his flavor of "sports journalism" because there is almost always a dearth of information and a huge demand from fans for news no matter how insignificant (or accurate). So fans will gobble it up, regardless. Hell of a way to make a living. The more I think about it, I guess I kind of respect Chip Brown. I wish I had thought of it.
Being a weatherman, an economist or a sports blogger does not require accuracy... just the aura of legitimacy. Don't forget Perez Hilton... people invent themselves online these days...
I find plenty of sources that say they were freshman roommates so chip is being accurate on this point.
From the aggy chancellor's article: Who the hell is Adam and why is his housecat so important? Does he have an outside cat, too?
One could look at it this way too, if Sharp is lying about something as insignificant as roomies, then he will lie about anything.
From what I can find, he is. It was even mentioned in the article Chip put on a Twitter response. Chip is bound to get something correct sooner or later. That's exactly what I thought as well...
