I saw this family at a press conference. Even if you are on the side of "hey, it was just a clock", I can't imagine feeling as if this isn't a totally frivolous lawsuit.
I don't understand why he has "lost his creativity'. He was paraded around all sort of institutions and business' that thrive on creativity.
He received offers to top Universities, all expenses paid.
He is worried about covering up here, because he is worried about being shot, but not back in Qatar.
Oh, poor little clock boy. You are merely a puppet for your parents, I feel, but I'm still disgusted.
Whoever is writing your copy is going a bit heavy on the hyperbole. Any time you walk out of the house death might be waiting for you?
    Really?

Clock boy hiding his pain well.

    Part of Clock Boy's presser:
He says he's not sure if he'll go back to school at IISD.

“The reality of it is that it was nice to meet the president and all these great people, but then again during that time I did not have a home,” Ahmed said at the press conference. “I've lost a lot of things and people might not see it because I never really talk about it. But I lost my home, I lost my creativity because before I used to love building things but now I can't. I lost my security. I can't walk out on the streets anymore without being covered up because I don't want to be shot because it happens here. Any time I walk out of the house there might be death waiting for me. So I have to stay overseas. But I love the States. The States is my home.”

The way the school treated him was pretty ******, but it's too bad his parents are using him like this now....

You might be saying that too if you'd received offers from a bunch of universities that thought you were a creative genius or something and you knew it wouldn't take them long to figure out that wasn't the case...

We do not know the story around clock boy's "arrest". I will withhold judgement until the whole story on that comes out.
But I do know I support what the teachers did, both of them. The make teacher who told him to.put away and not show anyone his creation and the teacher who sent him to the principal.
I wonder how long Qatar will continue to give Bennie to them.

    Why?
Well the first teacher understood what the gizmo looked like and tried to prevent what happened later.
The classroom teacher thought it looked like a bomb( and it did) and did what I am sure is protocol, protecting the students as well as following procedure to send a disruptive student to the principal>

Do you not think each teacher did the right thing?

I'm no clock boy apologist. I think his family is a bunch of self-promoting hacks who are exploiting American political correctness. (I think Clock Boy himself is just a pawn, who's just doing what his parents are telling him to do.) However, the one thing that does look bad is that the teacher and the school didn't evacuate the building. If they actually suspected that he brought a bomb, that would be a no-brainer.

Even bringing a hoax bomb is something that will get you interviewed by the police at most schools.I imagine the science teacher was able to tell everyone it was not a bomb. IISD and IPD have never been able to report their version of what happened
Heck a pop tart bitten into a sorta gun gets you suspended.

I don't have any problem with questioning him and don't think they overreacted. I think they may have underreacted. I would have emptied the building if there was even a chance that it was bomb.

I suspect the science teacher was able to discern the truth in seconds -- the clock wasn't a bomb, but it was designed to look like one. If that is correct, there was no reason to fear that anyone was in danger and thus no reason to order an evacuation. However, there was good reason to subject the kid to discipline.

I think the building would have been evacuated if they hadn't been able to establish the clock bomb wasn't actually a bomb...it was missing one key component. I do think there was, and rightly so, many questions to see if there was a partner who would have supplied the missing part that would have made it explode.

I have a friend, who has a friend whose boy goes to the school. Evidently it has a very high percentage of Mexican and Hispanics, ie "brown faces". This clock boy did not stick out of a crowd of white students. According to this father, the school walked on tippy toes around clock boy as is father was always calling about some perceived issue of some kind. His sister had made some vague threats earlier in the school year. The kids in the class with the clock bomb in the backpack were freaked out by seeing it.
I agree the kid is a pawn, if you watch him in the video it seems pretty clear that he is repeating things he was told to say. However, coming back to the US, after spurning scholarships in Qatar, and here in the US, and demanding a reported $15 million from a school district is just over the top.
How many kids will be punished if even a fraction of that money is given in a settlement? Schools are working at a razor thin margin in many cases already.

And his weak and bogus reasons just bug the hell out of me. It proves the point that maybe clock boy isn't the incredible genius he was made out to be.

There is a lot about clock boy and his family that didn't get much national media attention. His sister had been suspended when she was in middle school for a bomb related incident.
Clock boy had also been suspended in middle school too. He was pretty savvy about his " free speech rights".
Hopefully the records that the family refuses to be released can somehow be released and we will know more than just clock boy's version.

Don't be intimidated by Clock Boy's demand figure. Lawyers always demand far more than they expect to get, because they don't want to limit their negotiating room later on. If they offer Clock Boy $500K at the courthouse steps, I doubt he'd risk it. I've handled several cases where that kind of money was offered, and it's tough to get a client who isn't pretty wealthy to reject it. Most people don't want to gamble life changing money on the whims of "12 people from K-Mart" as my Civil Procedure professor used to say.

Obviously I don't know the facts the case well enough give a professional evaluation of it. However, my initial inclination is fight it pretty aggressively. They'll end up spending a lot on legal fees and risk getting hammered in court, but my gut tells me that the people of Irving aren't big fans of Clock Boy and won't blame the District for taking him on even if they lose. Furthermore, I don't see the venue where the case would likely be tried being particularly sympathetic to him.

The Legacy of Clock Boy -- woman finds bomb, thinks its a science project

"..... The latest case in point: Jane Schreibman, a Manhattan photographer, heard the blast from the first explosion in the Chelsea neighborhood Saturday night, then saw a pressure cooker with wires coming out of it into what looked like a cellphone, yet thought the pressure cooker was a science experiment."

Jill Stein has a better chance at winning the Presidency than that lawsuit has making any significant money. A Democratic district judge in Dallas County might let it go to trial (and even that's doubtful), but in the history of Texas civil jurisprudence there probably has never been a case less likely to survive on appeal. These lawyers are taking the case for publicity and liberal political advancement. They have no expectation of making money on this case.

It's funny because every word has its own fun little metaphor/irony. It's clearly not "his" clock, and it was also clearly intended to be a "clock" in the way that a hooked worm is supposed to be "free fish food".
