Damn, can this team do anything on defense without fouling. 2nd half, 2 fouls before the first minute. Ark is in the 1 and 1 with over 15 minutes to play. Roach is NOT a point guard.
Up by 5 at half time now Ark up by 9 anfd the ball. Ark on a 15 to 3 run. Licving on the FT line, we can't buy a FT.
To all those who have claimed that this team's lack of success is because of poor point guard play: You are CORRECT. If anyone doubts this, just look at the second half of the Arkansas game. Poor Roach; he is trying, but the kid is not, never has been, a point guard. And trying to learn on the job is not working against decent competition, which Arkansas, and EVERY team in the Big 12 is as good as Arkansas. Every game in our conference is going to be a dogfight. If we go .500 in league play we will be fortunate.
Cary, no point guard in hoops and no QB's in football, Seems like a trend. I do not see any improvement in Roach at all. I hope it does not get him down too much because he is giving everything he has to give.
And yet all we have to do is hit a few more free throws and convert a couple of layups, and we still win. These guys have to start taking free throws seriously. I get that it's mental. Guess what: that's what separates winners from losers. Winners step up and hit shots under pressure. Some of Tevin's shots yesterday were inexcusably bad - when you're clanking free throws off the side of the rim, you're not focused. Period.
That 19 of 32 is an interesting stat. Lots of those 13 misses were the first of one and ones. So from my point of view (which may be goofy, I admit) that's another miss because we forfeit the 2nd of the one and one. So using Caryhorn statistics, we went about 19 of 40.
Traditionally at Texas, none of the young players could shoot FTs (Durant being the exception.) But With very few exceptions, those players got better and if they stayed to their senior year they were usually pretty solid. Problem is, we haven't had a whole lot of "mature" teams around in here.
