Thanks DFW Horn, I totally got my years mixed up thinking only Kelsey, Brianna, and one more open spot was available.

Not sure what our most glaring needs are with those 2 remaining 'ships for the 2018 class. The most highly ranked uncommitted in-state players who we appear to have offered would be Na'Lyssa Smith, Tatum Veitenheimer, and Queen Egbo. I would take any of those 2 and be thrilled, but doubt Smith and Egbo end up at the same school.

One thing we are still lacking on the roster are pure shooters. We have scorers and slashers, but no pure shooters from the perimeter. If Tatum can help in that area, would love it if she joined the program. Not sure we are recruiting any snipers from three point range, but that would really help against zone defenses.

right now, our most effective 3pt shooters have one more year left after this season. Either someone on the team needs to step up hitting the 3 consistently or the staff finds someone like Amber Ramirez to come in . I still would love to see Tatum fill one of those two last slots, though. Pretty much everything I can find seems to indicate she has a pretty good 3pt shot.

Speaking of Ramirez, what happened with her? I can not find anything on the TCU site (assume she is injured, but no word.)

I was interested in how her low-release, but accurate 3-pt shot would translate to college. Her stats are OK for a freshman and she logged a lot of minutes before she disappeared.

she got hurt in the A&M game or just after in practice (leg injury). She has missed several games but was shooting in the warmups during Sat's game although she did not play against Texas.
Yeah, her stats are ok. :smile1:

Her 51% on 3-pt shots is certainly the headline. The best way to neutralize a good outside shooter is to not let her take them and that's easier to accomplish against low-release mechanics. Force her to beat you in other ways if she can.

But since we are wishing, I agree we could use a better 3-pt threat with a 2018 recruit. The Davenport commit is intriguing in that regard. Lolo has a nice all-around game, and I wonder if Karen sees her as a 3-pt answer at SG.

IIRC, Chasity shoots in the upper 30%s from beyond the arc - might see her being used a lot like Brooke was last year but with Sug at the point.

I agree with everyone -- we are really lacking in our 3 point game. Of course, Brooke is great, and Ariel not bad, either, but no one else even seems to want to take one. (I guess if you already know you're not going to make it...) At one point, Higgs was 2 for 2 on the year. Now I'm not sure you could get her to try one. I'd like to see us run something for the twins to try some three's, Khaleann now and Audrey-Anne when she gets back. This is one reason we never have any very high final scores. To me, we would ideally have more of a balance in our slash to the basket game and an outside game. Here's hoping for Chasity, Lolo, Rellah, Tatum if we can get her.

Anybody know why Lolo Davenport (Plano HS) has not been showing up in the box scores recently? Injury? Sickness? In her absence, Jordyn Merritt, a sophomore who has a Texas offer, has been the high point scorer. I haven't seen Davenport play but plan to as the playoffs approach. Don't want to go and she not play.

Lolo was back tonight. Never read anything about why she missed games. Jordyn Merritt had some awesome stats too!!

Good lines. And I was wrong as Merritt is a freshman.....not a sophomore as I thought. Plano may make a deep run in the playoffs as they are getting better as their young guns Davenport and Merritt figure it all out. For sure I need to drive the 5 miles to see them play soon. I hope Merritt and Davenport are besties and we can get both on the 40 Acres!

    OU or Oklahoma University? :smile1:
She may have visits lined up to those schools but, as a 2018 recruit, there's nothing to say that she won't visit other schools as well. Certainly other Big 12 schools are looking at her (Tech for one) and I would hope Texas has at least considered her. She sounds like the kind of player they look for.

Of course, anything can change regarding visits. And, official visits can't begin until the summer for the class of 2018.

Also, keep in mind who our coaches made in-home visits with this past Fall. I don't believe Cat Reese was among them (at least not based on the social media posted on here).

I know, Moooooo. We can't take everyone and at some point, both recruit and university understand that their paths aren't going to merge.
But I sure wish we could bring in everyone. :smile1:
Someone is going to get an very good player in Cate Reese.

Nalyssa Smith was at the game today. I take it as a good sign that she was in Austin, rather than Waco when the Bears took on OU.

Glad to hear. She last came to visit when we hosted Tech in late December; I wasn't for sure if she was there more to watch us or Tech. Regardless, attending the game today with all the exes around could only help our cause.

I thought once Megan Walker chose UCONN, our chances with #5 overall Shakira Austin dropped. That seems to be the case as Austin just committed to Maryland. Not surprising considering she's a true C and we have Sedona in the class already.

Guessing you mean Megan Walker, unless we were after another recruit I missed?

I sat a few rows behind Nalyssa at the WVU game. She was setting with her parents and was not sporting any UT gear nor did she join in the singing of The eyes of Texas nor did I ever see her raise a Hook'em!! I didn't know what to read into that? She did seem to be enjoying the game though. We could sure use Nalyssa's size in that 2018 class.
Chaz Patterson and Deja Kelly were also at the game sitting together! I did not see any interaction between them and Nalyssa.

Nalyssa didn't sport any UT gear at her last visit either, but she did show the Hook 'Em sign in the picture with Deja after that game. I thought that was Chassity's sister sitting beside her at yesterday's game, but don't know for sure. Deja usually puts pics on twitter when she attends a UT game.

I'm glad our staff recruits lots of players nationally, and made all those in-home visits last Fall. But, with Shakira Austin committing to Maryland prior to making any official visits, then they were most likely her favorite and leader for a while.

With possibly only two 'ships left for 2018, it's tough to know for sure who our main targets are. While it would be nice to still be in contention for elite out of state players like Christyn Williams and Shakira Austin, I'd rather our staff focus on those recruits who have legitimate interest in attending Texas. Same with Charli Collier. If they favor other schools over Texas, better to find that out as early as possible.

I take it that Nalyssa and her family are very business like during their visits. They don't want to show favoritism to any school and are probably trying to observe and make the best decision for their daughter. Nalyssa tweets but she rarely shows photos of her visits to Texas or Baylor (or any other school). I wouldn't read much into to their actions. Hopefully, it will turn out in our favor. Would love to have her at Texas.

You are exactly correct Luther! I guess my point was that she does not appear to be an obvious Texas lean! The coaches will probably have to work a little extra to get her.

If it's of any comfort, they looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying their time in the Burnt Org Room after the game. They were engaged chatting and taking photos with players and the coaches. As an added bonus, they got to watch Jody Conradt hold court by introducing the alumni players that had returned for the weekend.

Plus, as mentioned in another post, it's somewhat meaningful that her family attended this game rather than traveling up the road to see the BU v OU game.

Fingers crossed but I imagine it will be a battle with Baylor for her signature.
