Tatum will visit Austin next weekend -

Ron Tatum: In case you missed it, Texas DE commit Ron Tatum visited Oklahoma over the weekend. He lives less than half an hour from Norman and has some people close to him that would prefer him at OU, and some at Texas. Dispite the loss of HC Bob Stoops, we’ve been told that the Sooners are still a very real threat to flip to stud DE from OKC.

Our sources indicate that Tatum has already let the staff at his high school know and unless Texas is able to slow this down, it’s sounding like things could happen in the very near future. – (Andrew)

Mike Farrell (Rivals) interviewed Anthony Cook at the Rivals 5 star challenge.
Cooks says its us and tOSU in his top 2.
He will take all 5 of his visits then decide in July.
Farrell asked him if it's true that Ohio State leads -- Cook says that is not true.

    the view from aggy --

    Texas Gaining Momentum

When running back Keontay Ingram committed to the Horns around three weeks ago, he was the only 2018 running back with a committable offer from Texas A&M. This is a bad loss for the good guys. I am worried that Clarence McKinney had put all of his eggs into one basket in recruiting Keontay, as A&M hadn't even extended out of state running back offers up to this point.

Four-star safety DeMarvion Overshown also committed to the Horns a couple days later. He is listed as a linebacker, but the Longhorns will play him at safety. Part of the issue is that he is just not heavy enough to play the outside linebacker position effectively in college. He is a tall safety though, as he measures in at 6 feet 4 inches. Although we were not exactly in the hunt with Overshown, it helps the perception and recruiting momentum of Texas, and it makes their class better than it was before his commitment.

Ayodele Adeoye and BJ Foster also committed to Texas this week. BJ Foster is rated as the 16th best player in the country, the best safety in the country, and the second best player in Texas per composite. He has 26 total offers. BJ is out of Angleton High School in Angleton, Texas. Angleton is UT territory. Although we never really had a chance with BJ, his commitment to the Longhorns has made their 2018 class a lot better, and it has further increased their momentum in the class. I do find it odd that BJ is supposedly the 16th best player in the country, and yet Alabama didn't even want BJ enough to actually offer him. Ayodele Adeoye is a recent Texas A&M offer at inside linebacker. We got into the party a little bit too late for the four star, and therefore never had a real chance at getting him on campus. Texas now has the #4 rated class per composite rankings. This being said, a lot of Texas' biggest names are now off the board, and so it will almost be impossible for them to maintain a Top 5 class. Also, I expect decommits from one of their two commits at quarterback as well as a decommitment from Justin Watkins. If I remember correctly, Cameron Rising (their pro-style quarterback commit from California) is using Texas as a placeholder. Even with this in mind, it seems that Texas and Texas A&M will be signing a really good class as in 2018.

Over on an Aggie Message Board there is a thread about prized Aggie Safety Recruit Leon O'Neal running the 40 in the neighborhood of 5 seconds flat. http://tamu.247sports.com/Board/20/Contents/Leon-ONeal-40-time-53117316

I've got 5 words for those who doubt the Chief's ability to turn him into an SEC stud and 1st round draft choice.

"Momentum of Herman, Longhorns noticeable at Five-Star Challenge"
    https://n.rivals.com/news/momentum-of-herman-longhorns-noticeable-at-five-star-challenge

INDIANAPOLIS – New Texas coach Tom Herman has not coached a single, solitary game yet.

That does not mean there is not significant revitalization when it comes to the Longhorns, an excitement that has been woefully absent around the program in recent years.

“I went to a couple Texas practices and I like the energy they bring,” said five-star cornerback Anthony Cook, the state’s top player, here at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas. “Nothing against (former) coach (Charlie) Strong but it’s nothing like when coach Strong was there.

“It’s a totally different atmosphere. They bring a lot of energy and (Herman) is an energetic guy. Kind of like when coach Strong was there, the atmosphere was kind of still and dead. Every practice I went to at Texas, everybody is celebrating, competition, a little trash talking.” ......"

Rafiti Ghirmai: Texas’ big recruiting week will start tomorrow as they host Wakeland (TX) OT Rafiti Ghirmai as Texas holds another mini-camp on campus. This is a huge visit, as OL coach Derek Warehime has been picky on 2018 OL offers and has only offered 5 in-state OL. One of those is committed in Seminole (TX) OT Reese Moore, and landing Ghirmai could close down their 2018 OT recruiting.

Ghirmai’s recruitment has taken a turn, as LSU landed an OT commitment from Cameron Wire last week, someone who Texas was in a good spot with until LSU offered. And I was told the LSU staff seems to want to use their other OT spot in 2018 on a JUCO recruit that is more ready to play early over Ghirmai. Why that is big is because it looked like LSU had taken the lead for Ghirmai after his visit to Baton Rouge for the Spring Game.

A summer commitment is likely for Ghirmai, and with Texas pushing this visit is going to be very big for them. The only other visit Ghirmai has set right now is to Alabama and he will head out there on Friday.

If he does we will have a test to see if the Herman jinx is as strong as the Mack Brown jinx. Also, hopefully playing Texas 3/4 times will show the young man the error of his ways and prevent such happenings in the future.

Seeing quite a few Watkins flips. I was worried about keeping this guy from day one, his commitment seemed impulsive.

Btw, how reliable have CBs been in recent years? Just in general. Seem to have been on the money most of this year but I'm new to them.

"One of the most electrifying WR's in the nation plans to visit Texas this weekend."

Sources on the Texas side tell me that they are expected Moore to make the trip to Austin this upcoming weekend when Texas will be hosting a number of top targets. I’m also told that Moore is a take right now. The staff seems to be impressed with his speed and overall twitch which was on full display at the regional Opening when he ran a national best, 4.33 40. – (Super K)
