Texas Gaining Momentum
When running back Keontay Ingram committed to the Horns around three weeks ago, he was the only 2018 running back with a committable offer from Texas A&M. This is a bad loss for the good guys. I am worried that Clarence McKinney had put all of his eggs into one basket in recruiting Keontay, as A&M hadn't even extended out of state running back offers up to this point.
Four-star safety DeMarvion Overshown also committed to the Horns a couple days later. He is listed as a linebacker, but the Longhorns will play him at safety. Part of the issue is that he is just not heavy enough to play the outside linebacker position effectively in college. He is a tall safety though, as he measures in at 6 feet 4 inches. Although we were not exactly in the hunt with Overshown, it helps the perception and recruiting momentum of Texas, and it makes their class better than it was before his commitment.
Ayodele Adeoye and BJ Foster also committed to Texas this week. BJ Foster is rated as the 16th best player in the country, the best safety in the country, and the second best player in Texas per composite. He has 26 total offers. BJ is out of Angleton High School in Angleton, Texas. Angleton is UT territory. Although we never really had a chance with BJ, his commitment to the Longhorns has made their 2018 class a lot better, and it has further increased their momentum in the class. I do find it odd that BJ is supposedly the 16th best player in the country, and yet Alabama didn't even want BJ enough to actually offer him. Ayodele Adeoye is a recent Texas A&M offer at inside linebacker. We got into the party a little bit too late for the four star, and therefore never had a real chance at getting him on campus. Texas now has the #4 rated class per composite rankings. This being said, a lot of Texas' biggest names are now off the board, and so it will almost be impossible for them to maintain a Top 5 class. Also, I expect decommits from one of their two commits at quarterback as well as a decommitment from Justin Watkins. If I remember correctly, Cameron Rising (their pro-style quarterback commit from California) is using Texas as a placeholder. Even with this in mind, it seems that Texas and Texas A&M will be signing a really good class as in 2018.
