Every article I see on this subject always talks *only* in terms of doing away with Daylight Savings Time (DST). I don't get this. Why does nobody propose doing away with STANDARD time and making DST the year-round time? You can call it standard time if you want, but we clearly want longer days in the evening. Few people gripe about driving to work in the dark, what they hate is coming home in the dark. Congress has already decided, in 2005, that we like DST better since they added roughly an extra 2 months to it. Year-round DST is my proposal. Why don't you ever hear of such a proposal? I say the reason we cannot do away with DST, as is so often proposed, is DST is the time we like the best. Turn DST into Standard time and let's be done with it. Am I the only person who feels this way? Why wouldn't this work?
OK, I'm not the only one, when I changed my search parameters, I did dig up this article proposing what I am on about in 2015: https://www.vox.com/2015/11/1/9640018/daylight-saving-time-year-round
With LED lightbulbs and a higher percentage of renewable energy, the incentive is much less than before. Get rid of it.
The DST issue reminds me a little bit of the metric system issue. There's no good reason why we do DST (or not just use DST all the time), and there's no good reason why we don';t adopt the metric system. It's just a matter of personal preference and the hassle in changing. We do DST and keep the English measurement system (sorta) even though the English no longer use it (sorta but sometimes do) basically because it's how we've always done things. We're used to them, and it's too much trouble or too awkward to change.
DST in all its glory from the Ramstein Air Base Exchange parking lot. Almost no sunlight at 5:45 p.m.
besides ... DST allows for a decent time to wake up and go hunting. I don't mind being up to 2130-2200 processing ... getting to the stand after work before dark ... fugghetaboutit.
One thing about making DST year round is that it will be dark when kids walk to school during the winter months. I recall that being the major reason to switch back.
Don't you mean that is the *LACK* of DST in all it's glory? That looks more like standard time, not DST.
