Joel Klatt joins Colin Cowherd and Kristine Leahy on The Herd to explain who's to blame for the Oklahoma Sooners' loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl: Heisman Trophy Winner Baker Mayfield or head coach Lincoln Riley. https://www.foxsports.com/watch/the-herd-with-colin-cowherd/video/1127769155756
Yeah that must be real rough being an ou fan. ANOTHER Heisman winner, beat your rival again, another Big XII Championship, and a Playoff appearance in the Rose Bowl. Wow, sucks to be them.
horninchicago it is more about Riley coaching like Leach instead of Stoops. The guys think Stoops-like coaching would have won.
I get it, but to say ou fans must be sick...maybe, since they are all stupid lol. It's all relative. When Mack was here we would have been sick if we lost a game like that. Now, we would all be happy to win 8 damn games.
Yeah, I can't see fully blaming Mayfield for this loss... he doesn't call the plays. This one is on Riley and the coaches.... IMHO.
‘If I was an Oklahoma fan, I’d be sick’ I hear ya, brother. Wait... didn't they play a game this week?
But...could he not have conveyed in some manner the notion of "did I get that play call? Really? He's leaving...what would they have done to him if he calls timeout and trots to the sideline to offer thoughts? Granted, that might have up'ed his draft stock enough to where Cleveland drafted him...and I don't know that I can hate even the Snowflake enough to wish THAT upon him.
Play calling in the overtimes was awful but the blocked FG was the killer. It seemed so easy. OU right side looked like it just caved.
I said it in the other thread, but if OU has a better QB like Sam Bradford, they are probably undefeated this year and win the Rose Bowl. Mayfield was always the weak link of the OU offense, but ironically won the Heisman.
There were a lot of ou fans at the game in Pasadena. I wonder how long it took them to drive their homes there.
ever since the blocked FG I have been sobbing uncontrollably...tears me up to see that BAKER isn't going to win a NATTY for o.u. ..... ....oh, THE HUMANITY!!!!!
If they had just kicked the ball off normally instead of the squib kick at the end of the first half they would go into locker room with all the momentum. Possibly wouldn’t even gone to overtime.
Let's settle down a bit....Comparing Mack's 13-8 and Herman's 2-0 bowl record against Stoops' 9-9 is like making fun of Saban for not winning Sugar Bowls....until he did it this year....apples and oranges, like comparing Kapernick's numbers at UN to Vince's......or trying....
Mack Brown was 3-1 (alabama with mccoy hurt being the only loss) in BCS Bowls and Stoops was 5-6 with some bad losses and nothing to brag about wins (Uconn) so yes, Mack was a lot better in bowl games but stoops was better at getting to the better bowl games. Mack was a better bowl coach and Stoops was a better regular season coach.
If Mack was a better coach he would’ve won more conference championships. However, Oklahoma and tech usually messed that up. Two conference titles. Don’t forget Vince made Mack look good a couple of years in a row. Love Mack Brown but he’s not on the same level as Stoops. And don’t try to bring some bs about character, it’s about winning, and Stoops dominated the big 12.
I think Kirby just made some damn good adjustments the first series of the 2nd half they came out on fire
75 has to get 1 and they have to let the outside guy go. It didn't really matter as UGA was going to score that TD anyway. They had to capitalize when they had held UGA to a TD.
So true. Just kick it out of bounds and they get it at the 35 and it's a 17 point lead with 0 momentum.
If you kick it out of bounds, they can make you kick again. Here's the relevant part of rule 6-2-1: So if you kick from the 35 and the ball goes out of bounds, they can make you re-kick from the 30. That's what I would do if I was Georgia in that situation.
Bob Stoops was the better coach. I think there were two main differences between Bob Stoops and Mack Brown. 1) Stoops had a system and a plan. He recruited the players for it and he stuck with it. This consistency is why Stoops outlasted Brown and why he would still be coaching the Sooners if he wanted to be. Lincoln Riley was handed the keys to a Porsche while Charlie Strong was handed the encumbered title to an AMC Gremlin. Unfortunately, Strong didn't have a system either so now we've got Tom Herman down at the courthouse still trying to get it all figured out. 2) It's kinda like they say in poker....something roughly like, "The difference between the amateur and the pro is how they perform in marginal situations.". When it came to Texas / OU, Mack Brown usually needed the stone nuts (ie. the best team) to win. Bob Stoops didn't. Lastly, if I was an OU fan that Rose Bowl would have been absolutely devastating. Instead, I'm a Texas fan... and that game was as sweet as cherry pie
