They have every right to the claim. They beat the one team that beat both Alabama and Georgia on a neutral field while going undefeated. Until the BCS solves the problem, teams that go undefeated but got no love in the polls early should raise a stink.
Wouldn't say they went FULL AGGY though...a bit overboard, sure...but if you go undefeated on the season and beat a mighty SEC SEC SEC team to cap the season, I would say you get to bask for a few days. And sometimes, basking makes you a bit delirious...
A couple of the usual Holiday fill-in sports talk show hosts were speculating rather forcefully that UCF would not have made an 8-team playoff. They said the winner of the Pac 12 and Big 10 would have gotten in plus they were sure there were at least two other at large teams that would have jumped UCF. I believe UCF was rated #12 at the end of the regular season. Ironically, they even said that Auburn probably would have merited an invite but didn't mention the 8th team. Just that it wouldn't have been UCF.
I've little doubt they'd have been excluded. I personally think the playoff field should be 16 teams but at 8 teams they'll be forced to put in some rule that allows a non-power 5 team admittance to the party.
All this just to beat saban and Bama lol can you imagine the mass chaos after year 3 and they are still an 8-5 Team I might subscribe to one of the pay sites just to see all the tears
They'd have to give auto-bids to the Power 5 conference winners for starters. Then you have three left. I'm not sure the mechanism to guarantee one non-power 5 a spot. Some years it would be clearly a mistake. This year it might have been easier. But what about The U, Auburn, Wisconsin or even TCU. I'm sure there are other Power 5 teams I'm forgetting.
I bet the powers that be would put a UCF at #8. It's the perfect no-lose for them. If UCF beats the #1 seed, the "powers" were right. If they lose, no one can complain.
Interesting discussion today on a college sports channel on Xm - I think ESPNU channel 84. SEC purposively creates a schedule to benefit them getting at least one and probably two teams in the playoff. They play less conference games and play their cupcake non-conference games to make this happen. Alabama skipped their conference championship, rested up, healed players and now will be favorites to win the National Championship. We all know the way they schedule bowl games for their favor. Time for Big12 and PAC12 to do the same. Any conference that boasts Aggy, Alabama and Ole Miss, but outsmarts others is crazy.
My issue with the NP5's is that they don't usually play stout competition, the P5's get physically pounded more than the NP5's. I like to do this, so I'll say it's like trying to compare Colin Kaepernick to Vince Young, apples and oranges. Who did he have to evade while playing for Nevada?
This is precisely why everyone says the schools like UCF don't deserve a shot...there are a LOT of those programs that ARE quite stout. But because of opinions like yours, nobody is willing to recognize the parity that exists now compared to even a decade ago... The program doesn't really get a say in who they play...and those that have a desire to change conferences precisely to GET the chance to show their stuff get shot down by the people that insist that admitting them would 'water down' the conference. So instead, you have to hope for a beatdown like UCF gave to Auburn (or even that App State gave Michigan some years back).
And that right there is the heart and soul of aggy. And then they wonder why people make fun of them.
That would be a great comparison if not for the 6 games we lost. I get that, but ... 1)They have a hard time scheduling even when they try. 2)Nobody gives them much credit even when they do play and win those games (Boise State vs Oregon, Oregon State, or Virginia Tech, for example).
Wonder how that aggie would spin the Durant $3mil donation to a school he DGAF about? especially being a one and done.
Red donated the money & put his name on it? They blame everything else on McCombs, which proves the posters are too young to remember or know about Bum Bright.
2 takes on Aggies: I get the feeling Fishers gonna miss the Florida talent he had, and will find the cupboard bare. Poor Aggies think they are better now because they get smoked now by Bama and Auburn and LSU instead of getting smoked by UT, OU and Tech.
Really....what did they gain by moving on!!! SEC SEC SEC new stadium new scenery new competition new coaches what else???
Don't forget about all of the lawsuits from the donors who were sold a bill of goods in exchange for their large donations that built said stadium...
Bingo! You nailed it! I have said the same thing for awhile now. But apparently, to the Playoff Committee, strength of schedule doesn't matter. And yes, the SEC get's the bowl parings to make them look better, but that backfired this year. Prior to the playoffs, the sec was 2-5. After last night they finished 5-6 in bowl season depending how the playoffs are counted. Some day hopefully the set up will change with the P5s separated so that all teams only play other P5s in the OOC and in the post season bowls. The playoffs "should" include only conference winners, don't win, your team is out. However, the Committee screwed that up last year by putting in tOSU. So now we're stuck with a system as bad as ever. In the future, if an sec champ or the best record in the sec is 10-2 with all the other conference winners setting at 12-1 or 13-0, this committed could put in a 10-2 sec team and knock out a conference winner. The system has lost credibility. Time to consider going to a system more like the NFL playoffs.
