Horns sit at 15-8 with 8 conference games left, 4 at home and 4 on road. Big wins over OU, Tech, TCU, Butler, Bama, and VCU. No really bad losses on resume. I like the Horns to go 4-4 and you have to think that a 4-4 finish meaning a .500 mark in conference and probably 6th place finish in conference gets the Horns into the tournament.

    3-5 and things get hairy.

I was thinking four wins. Maybe hoping more than thinking. And I do agree that 19-12 gets them in at about a 9 seed. 20-11 gets them at a 7 seed, I'm guessing.

I think 4-4 down the stretch gets them in no matter what happens in the conference tourney.

3-5 and we may have to pull off an upset in the tourney to get off the bubble.

I'd agree that 4-4 is the likely outcome, but it is certainly not a given looking at the schedule. 2 probably win (BU, OSU), 2 probable losses (@OU, @KU) and the rest are anybody's best guess. If things go as expected, we to win our final home game against WV to get back to 500. Then, we get a first round win in the Big12 tourney to get to 20 wins and we're definitely in.

Got to feel pretty good about their chances against TCU without Fisher.

Now, overlooking KSU after that huge OU win would be a huge mistake.

Just need to take care of business. The freshmen should be all grown up by now. Very proud of how this team has come together after the devastating loss of AJ.

Pretty sure it'll be 4-4. We might notch an upset or two (like WVU) and we might lose to someone we shouldn't have lost to (KSU in either game).

19 wins should be enough to make the dance because of our SoS. There will probably be some bubble teams with fewer. Plus, we might get a win or two in the conference tournament.

We're in the tourney as a #12-13 if we finish 18-13 team based on SOS and RPI.

I think we'll finish 20-13. 4-4 in conference play 1-1 conf. tournament. 10 seed lock.

We are now 15-10 with 6 games left.

    W - Baylor
L - @OU...no way they let us win both games this year
    L - @KSU....simply because it's at KSU....tossup game for me
W - OSU...playing better lately, if we win @KSU, we lose this game
    L - @KU
L - WVU....wouldn't surprise me if we actually win this game, but don't think so

That leaves us at 17-14 & 7-11 @ about 8th place in conference. No way we make the dance this year unless everything comes together for the conference tourney championship.

Every F'ing year we are a cellar dweller...tell me how good this conference is if it makes you feel better....Big XII got embarrassed by the SEC so I'm not so sure how good this conference actually is.

The conference is good. Better than the SEC, even if in a one day matchup the SEC won two more games than the B12. Smart has his hands full with this league because every team is athletic, and the ones who are less athletic (isu, ksu, ttu) are well coached, full of upper classmen, and can shoot the 3 and FT's.

And the ones like ksu, isu, bu, and now ttu, are taking basketball seriously and filling up their arena when we come to town. And in BB, this is a distinct advantage. Our arena is often half full, and offers no real home field advantage. This makes Smart's job much harder, and makes it harder for the team to maintain intensity.

I am not sure that I would feel any level of confidence that Horns will win another game this year. Everyone else, including Baylor and Okie State appear to be improving while Horns seem to be waiting for someone to step up. Looks like another one and done who's talent has been wasted by coming to Texas.

I would agree with you but out of nowhere this team seems to randomly show up to games. Being later in the season the team may start realizing what they are and show up less often.

This is what gets me. Good coaching is more important than a big crowd. Opposing teams come here and win all the time with a small crowd. Maybe when the new arena is built for 12,000 it won't seem like an empty cavern when 9,000 show up.

Yes, coaching is more important than crowd size, for sure. When our team gets out coached, outplayed and we have a small, docile crowd it is a trifecta from Basketball hell.

So much for my optimism in predicting a win tonight. Some good things happened for the Horns tonight, but missed out on one.....getting the W.

Honestly, other than making the four clutch free throws to get into OT, I didn't see anything very good tonight.

Might have been a little off with predicting 4-4 to finish, 1-7 looks a lot more likely now.:brickwall:

If they keep playing like their playing I'm not sure who they will beat to end the season. There will be one or two wins, but probably not who I think they'll be.

I am confused as to why he isn't on the hot seat RIGHT NOW!! He has been coaching these guys for 3 years and I don't see any improvement with any of them. Is Davis a better player today? Roach? Any one of them? If so, I don't see it. I am VERY disappointed in the job Shaka has done. I was in Ft Worth last Saturday and it was a terrible performance.

Its hard to disagree with this post^^^. I'm not accustomed to defending Smart, he doesn't need nor deserve our defense. He hasn't earned it. Yet, we have lost 4 games by 3 points or fewer since Andrew Jones went down with the broken wrist, and then the leukemia diagnosis. I have to think that with him in the lineup we score 4 more points a game and have 3-4 more victories, which would be an improvement.

He was the team's leading scorer when he went down.

However, every team in the league has had injuries. Injuries are part of every sport. So, I guess I'm cutting down my own defense of Smart, which wasn't much of a defense to begin with.

With Andrew in the lineup all these weeks I think we absolutely could have won a lot of the games we didn't win and the team outlook would be different and Shaka's position would probably be considerably more stable.

Shaka seems like such a solid person and man of great character. It's hard to come down on him. The AJ1 thing has been very sad and troubling and undoubtedly a huge challenge for the team to overcome. Losing your brother and teammate to something like that is difficult enough emotionally; then compound it with the loss of his contribution to the team as a leader and player. Shaka's been dealt some bad beats at Texas, I'll give him that. First losing Cam, then Isaiah, then Mack, now Andrew. I mean, that's 3 seasons in a row he's had to face an altered team dynamic and loss of a high production player.

But, it is what it is. Bad stuff happens and that's life. We can succumb or overcome. Maybe next year will be better...

Thanks caryhorn. I should add though that I don’t think he’s a next level basketball coach and we can do better.

I think in year 4, he’ll still have good personnel and you can eliminate hardships and were still a team that loses close games in the same manor and underperforms statistically.

Remember when Rick Barnes lost Isaiah Taylor, still made the NCAA tournament, and got fired?

Winning on the road is always great. Winning in that building, when a last minute collapse seemed likely........no words.

Proving this team has the ability to win the games it needs to at least make the tournament without Andrew Jones so we can put that excuse to bed.
