I'm having a very hard time coming up with a plausible non-sleazy reason for contributing $900K to an out of state DA's race.

 

I was shocked that Soros' $958,000 worth of contributions to Joe Gonzales actually made the front page of the San Antonio Express-News today. They're very a liberal pro-democrat paper.

I can't imagine why Soros would donate that kind of money to a South Texas D.A. Gonzales describes himself as a "progressive democrat", but still, I can't imagine what impact Soros thinks he can have on the globalization of Texas. S.A. already has a police chief that just released (to Catholic charities) a truck full of illegals to go about their merry way, no questions asked.

 

Call him the boogeyman if you want, but Dems colluding with him has done more damage to our great nation than those few trolls did toward the Dems and GOP from Russia on FB could every do. A fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a fraction.......

 

From what I can tell, Hitler isn't doing a whole lot in terms of trying to influence elections or fund politicians at the moment.

 

Soros is an American citizen. Citizens United validates his free speech to put it wherever he wants. Correct?

 

It does, and he could have done this before Citizens United as well. However, that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to ask why he's doing it and infer nefarious reasons from it.

 

There's no way to know for sure, but I just don't see much reason to do it. Why this candidate in this race? You don't see billionaires in Texas donating almost a million dollars to Cook County (Chicago) DA candidates, and if that happened, I'd be suspicious. Perhaps the incumbent is considering prosecuting someone who is favored by Soros or has business dealings with Soros. Obviously, I'm speculating on that, but it's about the only reason I can imagine why he'd do it.

 

Yeah I was trying to figure out what part of Citizens United made it wrong to look into who was contributing to campaigns and why. But as we all know, we are in an age where to disagree with a liberal politician causes them to take to Twitter typing "I WILL NOT BE SILENCED." So I guess asking questions or opposing someone politically is considered a violation of free speech.

 

Yep. It's probably the most cliched and superficial straw man argument that people make. I guess it's better than being told that you have blood on your hands if you support the Second Amendment.

 

For the record, Soros' candidate, Joe Gonzales, ousted incumbent Democrat Nico La Hood in Bexar County DA race. La Hood blamed Soros' $1 million contribution to Gonzales and says he won't support Gonzales in the election. Gonzales, in typical Leftist fashion, kept calling La Hood, who is white, a racist and bigot throughout the race and even made fun of La Hood's autistic child.

 

That may be where Soros simply doesn't understand Texas. Democrats in Texas do well when they are civil and don't wallow in too much identity politics. Those people appeal to progressives, but regardless of whether you think Texas is becoming less conservative, I don't think you can say it's becoming more progressive (except in Austin.)

Disappointed to hear that about Koch. They have done some good things, but they aren't the Conservative bogey men the Left describes them as. Teaming up with Soros is a clear indication they are trying to get accepted into the ruling class world.

Meanwhile Soros is giving money to at least one leader in the Southern Baptist Convention. He convinced them to accept Critical Theory and Critical Race Theory as doctrines to consider when making SBC policy and for pastors to think through in their sermon prep.

 

Koch was viewed as a boogeyman because they bankrolled a lot of Tea Party and Tea Party-like groups. It didn't help that they were in the oil and gas business, but their activism is what really pissed off the Left. However, you're right. They were never hardline conservatives. They were globalist libertarians - for low taxes and deregulation but also for open borders and not big fans of cultural and social issues.

 

Globalist Libertarians. Yes. Working with Soros makes me think they are Left Libertarians which is basically Communists. Left Libertarians consider themselves anarcho-communists. The Koch's seem too capitalistic for that, but now I am not as sure.
