    Some mock drafts:

    https://www.draftsite.com/wnba/mock-draft/2018/
has Ariel at #13 (top of the 2nd round) to Las Vegas
has Brooke at #34 in the 3rd round to New York

No Big 12 players listed in the 1st round; Ariel is the first of four Big 12 players projected in the 2nd round while Brooke is the only Big 12 player in the 3rd. Surprised that BU’s Wallace is not listed as drafted but that ACL injury late in the year probably has a lot to do with that.

    https://wbasketballblog.wordpress.com/2018/04/02/2018-wnba-mock-draft-version-3-0/
has Ariel at #18 (6th in the 2nd round) to Dallas. Brooke at #25 (1st in the 3rd round) to Phoenix; only two others in the 2nd round and three more in the third besides Ariel and Brooke from the Big 12.

    https://highposthoops.com/2018/04/03/2018-wnba-draft-big-board-v-6-0-stevens-uconn/14/
has Ariel at #15 (3rd in the 2nd round) going to Connecticut and Brooke at #18 (6th in the 2nd round) to Dallas. Four other Big 12 players (one in the 2nd and three in the 3rd) listed in this mock draft.

The highest I’ve seen Ariel is at #10 - a team at the bottom of the 1st/top of the 2nd is going to make out like a fat rat by getting Ariel. I actually think her best basketball is ahead of her - all of us witnessed the strides she’s made in the last 2 years when she’s been healthy.

The results of a mock draft published today after polling WNBA GMs and coaches. Ariel going 10th to the NY Liberty:
New York: Ariel Atkins , Texas. An all-around guard who would provide a little more speed for the Liberty.

Brooke going late in the second to...New York:
New York: Brooke McCarty , Texas. Another 3-pointer shooter for Katie Smith to work into the rotation.

Ariel grinding away before the draft. Cool to see Deja’s mom helping her arrange the gym time.

I know one thing for sure, I've seen enough of Nurse and Williams to know I would take Ariel before them, and probably a few others too.

I agree. I think that Ariel will be a better pro than Kia Nurse or Gabby Williams. But we all know that the WNBA teams are going to view them differently because they went to UConn. Brooke on the other hand will be very interesting. I think the team that she’s going to will be very important as to whether or not she sticks in the WNBA. I think she can have a career similar to Leilani Mitchell if she goes to the right team

Way to go Ariel!!!! You deserve every great thing that comes your way!

Maybe I'm being a bit nit picky, or sensitive, but it seemed like Lobo just heaped praise after praise upon Gabby Williams when her name was called - voice animated and full of excitement. I guess she was fine with Ariel, but her comment..."she wasn't ever a high-volume player, and won't be for the Mystics"....I kind of get what she might have been trying to say, but she certainly didn't seem to have the same level of praise or enthusiasm as she did for Williams. And FWIW Ariel averaged 4 pts more per game than Gabby!

I am so happy for Ariel!:yippee::bounce1::bounce2: I cannot say I predicted Ariel would be chosen in the first round (ahead of Victoria Vivians.) But I have noted a number of times that coaches seem to appreciate Ariel more than fans, except Texas fans, of course. For that reason I am not so surprised that many draft prognosticators were way off on Ariel.

man, ESPN has pretty much stopped showing the draft, now concentrating on side stories.

Looks like Brooke will have to go the FA route. Might be best to select a team that she fills a need for.
    Let's go, Brooke! :hookem2:

Her size is obviously a con. And, she's not a true point guard. She's not a standard shooter (two feet) from inside the arc, as she mainly launches floaters; so, just not sure her game is ideal for the WNBA.

Congrats to the other three Big 12 players selected:
BU's Kristy Wallace at 16th to Atlanta; Loryn Goodwin, OSU, at #18 to Dallas and Teana Muldrow (WVU) at 29 to Seattle (I think).

Disregarding the butchering of Jamie Carey’s last name, great to hear the coaches really going to bat for their players.

Random trivia...Princeton SF Leslie Robinson, 34th overall pick, is the niece of some fairly famous people - Barack and Michelle Obama.

You are not being nit-picky..I often get quite irritated with Rebecca Lobo's obvious & (IMHO) unprofessional statements where she fawns over everything UConn, and ignores everyone/anything not UConn. Just very tired of her baloney...:brickwall::brickwall:

The only issue with Brooke is her size. Other than that, she has everything that you need to be successful in the WNBA. And if it doesn’t work out for her in the WNBA she will have a lot of success overseas if that’s what she chooses to do.

I think Brooke will be a fan favorite wherever she lands.
