What about Coach Wade Wilson at Texas Lutheran? He has had great success there and whereever he has been. And he has been doing it right under our noses.

Hey Bill! Long time no see.

In my opinion we have one shot so I'd prefer someone from a bigger program. I'm not sure though who would want to come here. Seems like an appealing job to me.

Has anyone heard anything yet? Its awfully quiet. Normally we get sniffs of a search committee or something. Maybe that's a sign the target is still coaching?

If I recall correctly CdC is a committee of one so the leaking will be at a minimum.

My dream coach would be L. Fernandez from UCLA or the Florida or Alabama Coach.

My question would be if a current HC from one of the top...let's say 12 schools (minus the Patty Gasco, obviously) would leave their better conference for ours, which only supports 7 softball teams? Yes, money would obviously be a big inducement. But would you leave the SEC, which placed all their softball teams in the tournament for one which placed 4 out of 7?

The only way it would occur is if the HC is unhappy with their boss/admin and just wants a fresh start.

I predict, that the next HC will be an assistant on a team currently still active in the tournament and CDC has to wait for their teams to finish up before contacting their AD to ask permission to talk to their coach.

    Just my guess.

Because We're Texas and what starts here changes the world? :smile1:

An assistant coach would be a real long shot and outside of CdC's comfort zone. Texas usually doesn't hire assistants as HC's. Expect the pick to be a current DI coach who has a proven ability to step into a mess and change the culture quickly. I would also doubt if money is an issue.

It's now 30 minutes until Thursday. I'm not used to not having leaks drain thru the cracks. Usually by now there are at least some juicy rumors out there. Crickets!!

To me that says a lot about Connie Clark's running of the program - nobody cares anymore.

Could be Phil, but more likely CdC and his committee of one doesn't leak.

How can a ship, drifting without a captain commit to a tournament next year?

I wish we could get that UCLA Coach.
Love the way they hit the ball.
And their Pitching Cast is something.

Would be a step up, but 12 years as HC at her Alma Mater says she is set in Brentwood until retirement.

No sarcasm meant here, then the question is what sitting HC, in a great conference on a good/great team, who is already established could we get to come to Texas. I know some have wished for the coach from Florida. But he's in the same (or even better) situation than the UCLA coach.

That is CdC's problem to solve. It is just very tough to lure those from the Pacific Ocean to Lake Travis.

I don't know who the coach is at Louisiana Tech but their program has been much better than ours.

Maybe you meant Louisiana Lafayette (Rajin' Cajuns)?
I looked up both their last 4 years records. Tech on left, Cajuns on right.
    34-23 | 41-16
    38-24 | 47-18
    32-22 | 46-9
    31-19 | 42-12

I always shudder when I see the Cajuns on our schedule.

You are probably right. if it's not Tulane or LSU it's not on my LA radar.

The job has to be publically posted under State law (you will also notice the track HC listed under the softball HC). CdC was at the NCAA track meet this week with the purpose of "looking for a track coach" - his words.

Any executive worth their salt takes a measure of the position they inherited before doing anything. College Sports Solutions probably were retained as an outside reviewer of the entire Athletic Department (like all public companies have to be audited annually). Listing the jobs was probably part of the agreement with College Sports. CdC has a record of finding the right coach for the position. He will find the right softball coach for Texas who will probably run-off ~25 % of the current players before they graduate if they do not buy-in.

    Vol,

I am adamantly opposed to "search firms" and "consulting firms". I view them as self serving, never saw a conflict of interest, probable kickback kings.

That said, for reasons we won't discuss, this is a much different situation, which CdC needs maximum "arms length" protection from what could be coming down the pike.

Actually, you get it out of the way ASAP to get it over with. If you wait too long you run into questions about what you just described.

Is this a good sign or a bad sign that CdC is taking so long to find the replacement for Connie Clark? CdC must be digging deep but I wonder if any of the elite Coaches out there are even interested in the Texas job? The money will be good for sure but you are talking about having to build a program from the ground up. And with the early recruiting required by softball this may be a 7-8 year rebuild task.

I agree with the need to completely rebuild, but we do have some really good players on the roster. A good softball coach should be competing for world series visits by year 3. The state of Texas has unbelievable talent pool and with a good hire combined with existing facilities we would be an immediate draw for elite talent. Just because we havent done squat in the post season doesnt mean things are completely bleak.
