Sorry, if you don't like it, but that is great news for our football team. OU will not match the $5+ million deal. Seems he takes more after his uncle than his father. Good luck to the young man.

I hope he takes the money for us and for him. He's little to be a QB in the pros.

His value you in the NFL is limited, still lots of money, but limited as compared to his value in MLB. He reminds me of Willie Davis, but it's hard to say which one was/is faster to first base

It would be very hard to say "No" to that money - especially when his body is more suited to baseball than to football.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

You don't know that. OK City Motors, or Big Red BMW might have a few million to spare.

I do know that. Not even the "million dollar walk" can offset those numbers.

Wow, I guess he really wants to play football at OU.

The Gooners have had a steady supply of veteran, older QBs, Mayfield, Landry Jones, etc. They have 21-24 year old QBs and we have 18 yo QB. It makes a difference.

If he hasn't signed by the next draft he will be drafted by a different team. If he wants the ou riches before the baseball riches that is fine, but he will be risking guaranteed baseball millions on every play for ou, and a team worse than the A's could draft him next year. That is a BIG gamble for someone whose athletic future is in baseball. Hopefully this is his decision (baseball millions v. a career at Big Red's).

It really depends on where his heart is. My expectation is that he'll sign and take the signing bonus and "retire" from college baseball with the understanding that he's going to play at least one more season of football. If he played this year he really is not missing much baseball. Even if he played two more seasons he's only pushing baseball back a year.

This dude is the backup. http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=210821973&DB_OEM_ID=31000

There was a slight "battle" but Murray is the presumed starter. He backed up Mayfield two years ago and did the redshirt thing last year. He's capable and probably is a better drop back passer. That said, Murray's quickness and explosiveness is video game level like that kid from Louisville was.

Spencer Rattler was voted the #1 pro style QB at the Elite 11 camp just recently and he's coming in January.

He can be an amateur football player and a pro baseball player.

Someone said he's guaranteed almost $5 million at that draft position.

Apparently the As are OK with him playing football. If that's true, I think they're out of their minds. I certainly wouldn't sign him until football season is over. What if he tears up a knee playing football?

Also, he'd have to somehow juggle "college" into his schedule.

Take the money, signing bonus, insurance policy and all. Play FB at OU in the fall and go MLB in spring. Life choice.

Worked out well for Ricky at Texas.

It looks like he's only playing one season and it was an eyes wide open deal between the two going in. I bet the A's are paying for a big insurance policy. I bet they negotiated a smaller signing bonus than the #9 pick would necessitate.

He would just need to be an enrolled full time student I think.

Anybody remember the last time we played this game? The tall flamethrower from Springtown (IIRC), drafted in first round by Oakland. He had told MLB in advance that he would NOT sign, he was going to college. It wound up being MLB showing NCAA who was boss.

Kyler's situation is different, but can't believe the A's won't have a significant discount on that $5 million. If he chooses not to sign with Oakland, his offer next year will be less because he no longer has the option of returning and must go with the team that drafts him. Right now he is in control, Next draft, he has no say. See also Kirk Killingsworth

Wasn't the backup QB giving him a run for his money?

    Take the nickel.

OR...he may have learned to play the leverage game in an attempt to get a better deal (from both teams).

Nah...he wouldn't be the first to fail to play in a bowl game. One does not often see players declared ineligible mid-semester. So he could play, blow off class and really only miss one game. After all...its OUStillSucks...going to class is a suggestion, not a requirement.

It comes at a cost. I lose my keys/wallet/phone/glasses about 6 times a week but I know the only major-leaguer to hit into an all-Cuban triple play (Whitey Herzog).

    Gump,

Who was faster down the line, Mickey Mantle or Willie Davis?
