This list is growing -- first it was Bob Corker (Tenn), then it was Jeff Flake (Ariz) and now it's Mark Sanford (SC).

Four years ago this time, Eric Cantor was losing a primary to Dave Brat.
    Pundits were stunned.
Media wondered -- “Was this a one-off or does it mean something more about a rift between the Republican Establishment and its base?”
Looking back, it was the opening scene. Still happening.

It would take congressional approval, and that won't happen. And it would be stupid for the GOP. Northern California and California would each send two hardcore liberals to the Senate. Southern California would be a swing state. That's a net gain for Democrats.

This is one of at least 2-3 attempts to get enough signatures to get a "breakup California" initiative on the ballot. They are coming from the left and right. None will be successful but it's interesting in the fact that California is a bit of a microcosm of what's happening in the US in the culture war between the cities and rural areas. Neither side wants to "live" with the other.

I didnt say it was a good plan, only noted that it made the ballot. What I thought was the most notable part of the proposal was that it did not include a provision that some part be remitted to Mexico. Isn't that a little surprising?

Sadly, instead of continuing on as urged, liberals are forcing the sign to come down. Is this a sign of things to come?

Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY), a 20 year incumbent was defeated last night by a Bernie-backed, 28-year-old socialist in the primary. Big upset. Link.

    And yes she's hot.

Another open socialist just ousted a powerful incumbent Dem in a New York primary

"Representative Joseph Crowley of New York, once seen as a possible successor to Nancy Pelosi as Democratic leader of the House, suffered a shocking primary defeat on Tuesday, the most significant loss for a Democratic incumbent in more than a decade, and one that will reverberate across the party and the country.

Mr. Crowley was defeated by a 28-year-old political newcomer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a former organizer for Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign, who had declared it was time for generational, racial and ideological change.

The last time Mr. Crowley, 56, even had a primary challenger, in 2004, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez was not old enough to vote...."

It is frightening that so many people really think socialism works.
That there are that many people who really want handouts.

Socialists winning Dem primaries is the fault of the Democrat establishment alone. They have done nothing to crack down on their own loony fringe and these are the results. When you keep propping up the most radical elements of your party, they will eventually take over.

So let them blabber on about abolishing ICE and even the Police (yes, its true), while they squat on the flag/anthem, and let us see what happens in the next election

But how long before even the more centrist Dems move sharply to the left as they see how the socialists are winning in dem elections?

You have a point, if nothing else they are poll-driven. They know what "their people" want.

But I still think its a mistake. I think they are painting themselves into a permanent backbench political position. Sort of the way Republicans used to be content being the minority in Congress for so long.

Well she did promise to legalize pot and give licenses only to African Americans as “reparations.” The crazy left easily outperforms the crazy right.

NYC's next socialist rep. What's hilarious is that some people in the media are surprised that she won in Queens - which is basically crammed to the gills with progressive hipster millennials. She's basically a dream candidate for Queens and Brooklyn.

So apparently Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement. This midterm election just got interesting. I predict the left will take the crazy up another notch now. Lots of "Donald Trump wants to appoint pro-slavery justices to the Supreme Court. We can't let that happen" ads.

Predictably, Chuck Schumer thinks people are stupid and so he tries to make the parallel to the 2016 election.
