Warning, this is not politically correct. I loved Howard Cosell, Dandy Don and Frank Gifford to Jon Gruden and Mike Patrick, loved em all.
I just tuned into MNF tonight, Beth Mowins play by play? yikes. I can’t watch it. I hate the ESPN big ten game Of the week where they have a woman calling play by play. Just shoot me. She does a great women’s college softball, but I can’t do this. I’d rather be in the pit of misery! Dilly Dilly!

Life is better when you stop watching the NFL altogether. I learned this about 20 years ago.

I stopped watching when the players started getting their knees dirty during the National Anthem. I don't miss it at all. I thought that I would. Go figure!

    BA,

Seems that ESPN2 has the game on in Spanish. I don't speak Spanish, but it's better than listening to her.

Same here, mine was when the Houston Oilers became the Tennessee Oilers.

Haven't missed it since. I have pretty much done the same with the NBA. Thank you Kawhi Leonard.

BTW if you want a football replacement, I suggest Rugby, it is damn fun to watch, think of the days when you were a kid playing tackle the man with the football.

BA, I thought exactly the same thing when I heard her but since (at 65) I might still run for President some day (after I win a massive Powerball), I refrained for opining...

I stopped watching when Jerrah hired Switzer.....

    ...so yes, basically this. :hookem:

I dabbled in this until I found Australian rules football. I kind of enjoy a game that no matter how many times I watch it I still have NO idea what is going on.

Its only for the first game since they have a double header but they probably could have made a better decision to do it. Boomer used to do this game w/ another analyst but since he's retired, I think they decided to go with the closest college team they had.

Mike Patrick has a great voice but I always thought he was horrible. He would miss on at least 5 names a game.

No special reason other than I just can't get into NFL games anymore. Its been well over a decade (maybe 2) since I stopped watching, other than Super Bowl and snippets here and there.

College ball is just much more entertaining to me.

Haven't cared about NFL since mid 80's.. MNF hasn't been anything but just another game before that.

Last year was the first time i had no interest in watching an NFL game, but about a decade ago I started watching less and less every year. I think thats when I realized the Cowboys would never be good under JJ ownership and the whole kneeling thing sealed the deal. I just dont miss it at all.

Yep the hiring of Switzer put me off.
I still follow Horns in NFL and will have it on my television as back ground noise simply because it's football.
But I can watch every televised college game and enjoy it.
I could give a **** about the kneeling.
Especially since it was Nate Boyer's idea as a compromise.
As far as I'm concerned we don't need the anthem played 20 freakin times a week before every sporting event.
Save it for military and government events and holidays. It keeps it a little more special.
Just don't show it before every game.

    1. Tom Landry fired clumsily.

    2. NFL enters the political arena, extorting Arizona to make MLK's birthday a state holiday --- or no Super Bowl for Arizona.

    3. Jimmy Johnson fired and Switzer hired.

    4. Cowboys celebrate on the field at a Super Bowl and one of the players shouts in the camera: "We kicked their ******* asses!! with no repercussion by the league.

    5. Finally, multimillionaire privileged few players using the employers' platform and broadcast time (NFL TV games) to promote a personal political view and the NFL goes flaccid.

    -----
    1. I'm pissed, but got over it.

    2. WTF? Where is Congress and monopolistic behavior? Let GM or Ford try that. Maybe watch a Cowboys game now and then.

    3. Cowboys were back; now owned by piggy, coached by OU. Watch them if they make the Super Bowl.

    4. Inmates running the asylum. Losing interest even in Super Bowl, except for bar specials and free food and funny halftime ads.

    5. So, NFL has done all they can to turn me away. Haven't seen a game in years, the Super Bowl cheap beer and free food at bars still holds. But even the halftime ads suck now.

Years from now, the NFL's demise will be noted in comparison with Schlitz's fall from No.2 beer in the U.S. to complete disappearance from shelves (the "Drink Schlitz or I'll Kill You" campaign The ad that made Schlitz infamous , and formulation changes).

    Blonthang,
Good post! While watching some of the commercials before the superbowl last year I gave my wife the remote and said anything but the superbowl. It was the first time that I have ever missed watching a superbowl. We usually have a big gathering. I am 63 years old and I do not have any regrets.

Me too - CW is better for color than for play-by-play. Couldn't we just hire Ron Franklin again? He's not doing anything AFAIK.

Walk into a south Texas icehouse and you will usually find at the end of the bar a rode hard, put up wet gal as rough as sandpaper usually a bleached blond with 4 inch brown roots, 45ish, with a cigarette in one hand and drinking a canned beer in a koozy in the other. They sound just like Beth Mowins when they talk and talk and talk.

I had no idea so many were worked up by the idea of a woman talking about football.

The college game is so much more dynamic.
Don't get me wrong, I know when I watch the NFL that its the best of the best of the best. But the game is almost too refined, and and too polished, executed too well, predictable.

Compared to the NFL, the college game is wild. Like a lab experiment run with no controls. Anything could happen.
If something works at the college level, it slowly trickles up to the NFL in a watered down, boring form.

    It's not "a woman", it's:

    1) the kind of woman that says things like, "Why does football need 85 scholarships? Only 11 can play at one time; 25 should be plenty"

    2) the kind of woman that set breast cancer treatment back decades by being so antagonistic that they couldn't get the most accurate test approved by Medicare

    3) the kind of woman that was so hateful that they helped the ERA fail in all 50 states even though it was supported by over 90% of the populous.

Having had to step in for them to get things done on Capitol Hill for breast cancer patients, YES, I don't like them, their actions, their belligerence, their selfish "look at me" attitude that suppresses women's health and rights in this country.

    Dion,

Feel free to delete or cut and paste to WestMall, but I reuse to be politically correct.

I am confused by SabreHorn's post. Is the claim that Beth Mowins in particular did the three things he mentioned or is it that women who do traditional men's jobs, like Beth Mowins, are the type of women who do these things? Did Beth Mowins do something to set breast cancer treatment back decades? I don't think she "helped the ERA fail in all 50 states," in part because 37 states ratified it. ;) Equal Rights Amendment - Wikipedia
